The haters are going to be all over me, calling me "grammar cop" or "spellcheck queen" but I couldn't resist citing the correspondence below.

An escort recently emailed me after I texted him and the spelling, punctuation and grammar errors were so frequent and frankly funny that they actually turned me off. I'm not looking for Einstein with a big dick but a little rudimentary English is not a lot to ask for.

( I always' like to keep on TOP ! Of anything that I get involved with! (Specializing! In Toy’s!

I’m in A (# 1 all around good health ! ( And like within Safe limit’s )

Expert in bodywork, have trained in Thailand it's self, for real! And also know many other styles . I have at Rates are in calls 150 or 220 out

In his email, he said he'd give me the code for his "pryvet" photo.

Why do people use apostrophes for plurals?

Let the hating begin.

I'm with you! Nothing is more off putting than an ad with misspellings, poor grammar, and incorrect or lack of punctuation. For me, those errors tell me something about the escort's personality, mindset, and attention to detail. If they care enough about crafting a legible ad, chances are good they will care enough to give the client a good experience.

Ignorance and/or common usage. The one that really makes me wince is "60's", but it has become so common now I doubt there's any hope of stopping it.

I think you are correct. I believe an apostrophe to separate a numeral from a letter has become commonplace because it is simply easier on the eyes. It is not meant to denote possession -- just set them apart.

The bigger question is can he give a hot cumming blowjob and rimm me till I moan. If the answer is no. I maybe concerned about the grammar. If the answer is yes, well I can overlook their idiocincracies . :p:p

You only deserve to be hated on if you're dealing with someone who is not a native English speaker. If that's the case, and you don't speak, read and write multiple languages perfectly, then you deserve a little snark.

If they are a native speaker, your example seems to denote a lack of education more than a lack of attention to detail -- at least to me. Personally, I'm much more concerned about a provider's looks and services, but if poor writing skills are on your list of important things... it's your list and you can have anything you want on it. (And yes I know that was not the proper use of ellipses, but it has become a common usage. :))

Isnt it ironic that the OP warns about hating but himself is hating someone who perhaps is more educated and speaks more languages than himself?

English, is of course my first language, however, I lived in Latin American for enough years that I am almost as comfortable in Spanish as in English. Furthermore I taught high school Spanish for many years. So much for background information.

We are seeing more and more escorts describing themselves as Latin and the written English they use to express themselves definitely indicates that their first language is Spanish NOT English. Thus when I see an escort describe himself as Latin I am willing to cut him some slack regarding his written English. If I'm looking for outstanding written English I can always read old articles by William F. Buckley Jr. If I'm lo0king for outstanding escorts I'm more interested in what they're into than their command of written English.

I have no problem with guys writing choppy copy who don't speak English as their first language.

That being said, even if you have stunning photos, it speaks highly of your ability to communicate with a potential client and will likely cut out a large portion of business. A higher-end/longer-term clientele are wanting the total package. They don't want to go on a trip with someone who they'll struggle to connect with.

Ultimately, a good escort's job is to make life easier for someone when you're with them.

I shouldn't have to use Google Translate to figure out that you want me to fuck you harder.

Show some compassion for someone from another country who hasn't mastered the English language.

Compassion? You are wrong, my friend. Compassion is not needed in this situation, but Respect.

Compassion is not what you should feel for someone who can be way a much more accomplished human been than you are. Compassion is what you should feel for someone who make judgements based only in someone's spelling, in any language, in any country, in any circumstances.

Sorry, I had no idea I was such a worthless human being for showing empathy for someone in a difficult situation.

I hope OP never visits Bangkok, because when he does his inevitable mispronunciations and lack of intonation will leave him stranded at some point. Yes, there are guys who clearly didn't major in English even if it is their first language. But for someone whose native tongue has a completely different grammar (no "perfect" tenses, no gender) writes an ad in English you need a little respect and imagination.

A part depends on the mode of communication. When writing an email, I have a full keyboard so it's easy. I'm horrid at texting. I shorten words a lot because I'm not good at typing on the small screen, even if I've been doing it for years now. I drop vowels and the rest. It's very common as texting is designed as a short communication method.

Consider the "terseness" of old telegrams, where you paid by the letter.

Even when Blackberries were new, many people put a note in the signature to excuse poor typing because of the device. Doing so remains a standard option for many devices so the recipient knows the sender may err in function.

Some of the specimens in your example however are puzzling, as they require more keystrokes to apostrophe a plural.

I am not aware of any foreign language that uses brackets and exclamation marks in this manner.

Which is it? @actor61, is the guy Thai?

From reading on the web, they use the เครื่องหมายตกใจ (!) in Thai just like in English.

And they use เครื่องหมายวงเล็บ (brackets) also like in English. Where could he have acquired those linguistic idiosyncrasies?

A couple of comments:

  1. I've read and re-read the various posts in the thread and don't see any evidence supporting the notion that the escort in question is a non-native English speaker.
  2. Let's give non-native English speakers credit for being able to construct sentences in their own language and for having the ability to apply those principles to a language other than their own. We are not talking about awkward vocabulary, reversed subject/predicate order, or mismatched case. The wording sounds like it came from someone who is high, drunk, or is suffering the effects of long-term drug use.
  3. Would those who are criticizing the OP support him if he declared that he was visiting a non-English speaking country and would not make an attempt to correctly write/speak the language or would they criticize him for expecting the non-English speaking country to abide by his crappy usage (or non-usage)? It cuts both ways.

Excellent point.

I didn’t mean that other languages have symbols which resemble our punctuation. Odd punctuation seems to appear, at least for me, when I cut and paste or copy from app to app.
