I have an overweight friend. When I see him I don't focus on that. But I admit wishing he would reduce a little bit. There are health challenges that slow him. He is a sweet guy and I wish him the best.

I had two morbidly obese dear female friends. One has died and the other is in a nursing home.

 

My sister was slim all her life till at 40 she stopped smoking and became obese.

 

I do have some friends who are overweight but the DC area doesn't have many folks like this because we walk, take the metro and have more diverse food. Even in our poor neighborhoods were food choices are limited, folks have to walk everywhere and you don't see as many overweight men, women and specially kids as you see in other parts of the country.

It's California, almost a crime to be fat in this state, especially for gays lol...

Not to be argumentative, but Louie Anderson was more likely speaking of his entertainment industry bubble.

 

Granted, he is from Minnesota which I know from my time there that they carry a lot of beef on them. But, California has the same problem with obesity as everywhere else. Sometimes I wonder if LA has more obesity than a lot of other places.

 

My obese friend Rick often mentions how he would like to lose weight. I just don't know what to say though. Advice never helps, does it? I just try to avoid ideas like trying new restaurants, with all of their delicious high calorie foods.

 

I know I would miss him very much if something happened. Maybe that is all I need to say to him.

Walking more and sleeping more are really the two biggest things I've found, and my trainer agrees. Sleep deprivation is widespread and really does fuck with the metabolism. And too much hard aerobic exercise can be counterproductive as it causes people to shed muscle in addition to fat. I was at a point where I was jogging on the treadmill for an hour seven days a week and not making any progress. I cut back to 20 minutes of walking/jogging and added some rowing and started getting much better results.

I'm glad you posted this before I did.

 

To answer the original question, my closest friend is overweight as was her dad and is her uncle (her dad's brother). Her sister has always been very slim. Her sister has had Stage 4 breast cancer for 17 years which has metastasized to her bones and brain. Even before having cancer, my friend would walk or ride her bike everywhere while her sister would drive or take a taxi. My friend has no health issues. Who is healthier?

From what I hear, penile implants render very limited results. I think the gains are more in "confidence" than size ?

Not anymore. My friend has lost 40 pounds in 6 weeks after having weight loss surgery. She was never morbidly obese to begin with and certainly never had mobility issues. I was worried, but she looks great now. It's definitely not the right path for everyone though.
