Working in Rural areas

I'm looking at taking a break from the city and going up to a small town. I will most likely immerse myself in an agricultural market, but wanted to hear about the experiences of others who have either worked or hired in small towns or rural communities.

 

Is online the best route? How do you find each other?

I've done most of my hiring here in my rural community (tiny corn and cucumber farming town in southwest Michigan). Those guys advertised on adam4adam and craigslist. I'm not positive, but I think from what they told me... they did quite well since there aren't many escorts around here at all. In the cities, you've got dozens or hundreds of escorts from which to choose - in my neck of the woods, there's two or three. I think those guys get a lot of business within a 60-mile radius.

 

And, yeah... I think online is the only route, where I live anyway. We don't have many other outlets around here.

I worked in Tennessee, and while I did mostly go to Nashville I sometimes saw people in the smaller towns where I was living closer to. Definitely was a culture shock around discretion and anxiety, I'd gotten used to the proud gay men of SF vibe and I definitely had to learn some lessons in discretion and vibe checking. I live in a farm area outside of Philly. It is impossible to find anyone that escorts in my area. To go into Philly is such a hassle driving 40 miles and then have to deal with the parking. It's not worth the effort. The escorts in this area seem to advertise in the Philly location, so you have no way of knowing if they really are in Philly or out here in the suburbs.

I grew up in upstate New York. Of course the large cities - Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse - had gay bars. What was interesting, though, is that here and there, in small rural towns, there were bars, known through word-of-mouth, that were sort of gay-friendly. Of course, everything was on the DL and meeting people in these places was challenging. I wonder if that kind of place still exists.

I'm probably the rural town kween here. I've done some of the even remote areas that are hundreds of miles from the nearest major city. All you see is either grassland or mountains. And it was worth It. Initially it can be scary, but all in all it's usually less of a hassle and headache than dealing with city folks who are cancel-prone.

 

The only thing is, some of the rural market has become harder to reach now due to craigslist and backpage removing erotic services. Men4rent was also the preferred choice. There's a town called Amarillo Texas that I used to hit up on my way East or West. You can smell cow manure across the whole city, but it's a cute town that's a world of difference from Houston and Dallas. Nicer people, less flakes. I once got multiple clients within a day. But that was when men4rent had a better hold on things. Its been a couple years or longer since I've been and it had gotten to where it wasn't worth it to stop anymore. But idk, things change.

 

It's trial and error though, and it differs from big cities. I wouldn't go to a small town without pre bookings BUT they may be less willing to do a deposit or may say things like, "oh well don't come all the way over here just for me." (Even though that's not the case, but to some clients it can appear that way) One escort I spoke to criticized me for not getting a deposit from a certain client who cancelled, and says he never travels without getting a deposit.

 

Well that's fine and dandy, but I've traveled to these smaller rural towns over the years and had no issue getting them to stick to the appointment or be flexible if changes occurred. When you're used to shit going right traveling to small towns, you can get caught off guard dealing with these big city slicker mother fuckers.
