Although I have never met you, Mocha, I like your posts and your refreshing POV. Don't always agree with you, but definitely don't like the personal attacks on you. Once again, you have stirred the pot. Good for you.

Point One. No one has gathered systematic data on escort ads over the last 30 years. One might be able to do that with the Advocate and other longtime sources, but no one has done it, nor am I going to do it. So we are in the realm of speculation.

Point Two. I have followed escort ads in the east coast for almost 40 years. The biggest trend is MORE ADs, a lot more ads, because of the Internet and other reasons. The explosion of ads has been fueled by all racial/ethnic groups--but the biggest growth has been Latino escorts, and also escorts traveling from Europe (Eastern Europe, UK, Italy, etc.) and from Canada as well as Latin America (Viva Brazil! Don't cry for me, Argentina!) Most of the escorts visiting from other countries are White, and overall there has been a big increase in White escorts over the years. Asian escorts as well, very rare in 1980, quite widespread today. In absolute numbers, I think there are more Black escorts advertising now than in 1980 or 1990 or 2000--but this demographic has not exploded the way Latinos, Visitors, and Asians have exploded. Even Whites.

Point Three. IMHO, there is a lot greater variety among Black escorts now than in 1980. In NYC and DC, there are a lot more preppy, upscale, Ivy-educated Black escorts than < 2000. There are many more mixed-race escorts (Blatino!) than before.

Just my observations. No definitive facts.

As@Andy2 says, one can only speculate, but I haven't seen any evidence to support the theory and the examples of cities that you referenced are anecdotal. I haven't noticed any shifts and I can only say that it hasn't been my personal experience. You've been doing this business a long time and I'm sure the longer you are in it, the more cycles you'll see. I don't think there will ever be a TON of Black escorts because generally & culturally speaking we grow up in church with really conservative views about sex, and especially homosexuality, and then escort work is a whole other layer. If you've seen a decline in ads in certain cities perhaps the guys that used to advertise have advanced in their other interests, in their education or other career goals.

This is actually a very good assessment, although I can't relate to the 1980s because that was so far beyond my time. However, just as a general statement in all industries, it seems the best time to have been a black escort/porn star seemed to be in the 10 years between 1996-2006 generation. I came kind of late in 2007/2008. Some things seemed to have worked better then. The foreign cars were better. They came fully assembled from their country of origin (that's just being joking, please don't beat me up with how building foreign cars in America helps the economy) Black artists were coming out with record labels left and right. Many of today's long standing artists like "Ursher" hit big in the Late 90s/early 200s.

I think Bush came along and somehow messed up the whole vibe. I don't know how or why, maybe someone who was a full fledged adult at that time can explain. I don't think Obama got us back to the same level as then, considering we lost many escort websites during that time. Though who can say if that's directly related to presidential or more locally governmental. I don't know how things will fair under Trump, but clearly he's just a distraction from what's really going on.

Lots of black escorts on backpage.

I think I assesed that in the initial post, but in case I didn't...I just don't think that counts. I've never met a Black backpage escort, but based on things said here and from my own clients from backpage "back then", most of those ads are simply "quasi-escorts". Plastering their (or likely someone else's) face and beautiful bodies on such a low rent site with poor quality callers who just make you want to turn your phone off, seems questionable. I can't even count backpage because it's just no way to verify any of the ads, and not to sound haughty or put anyone down...but many of the ones on there don't accurately portray black escorts in the best light and attract the wrong type of callers: people who fantasize about the dick size of such guys, but have no guts or moral ethic in their soul to actually meet them. Not everybody on backpage, but many of them. Some cities worse than others.

Could be. When I was younger and thinner I hired because I wasn't out. Now I'm out but older and fatter, and I still hire.

haha ... that made me laugh. thanks. a little self-deprecating humour took the edge off the defensiveness about racism. an outside your country looking in observation, man teh topic of racism gets super defensive super fast. it's interesting to watch. I don't think there's another developed country where people still refer to "race." racism is real for sure, but "race" ... the ugliness of eugenics has hopefully passed post-WWII.

Is it possibly just straight up with more people being out, there's less market for escorts period?

You know what guys, I think I've just dug up a Scooby Dooby Clue of what could be related to it:

Well nevermind, I can't post PNG pictures here so it doesn't work. But, an article from the Pew Research center seems to have addressed exactly what I've been thinking all along:

Even so, the public’s views of race relations are more negative now than they have been for much of the 2000s. Between February 2000 and May 2014, by double-digit margins, more said race relations were good than said they were bad. By August 2014, after the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old shot and killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, opinions had changed significantly: 47% described race relations in the U.S. as generally good and 44% as generally bad.

It seemed like right around 2015, things started getting weirder and weirder business wise for me, as the article suggest. Like I say, I can always cite and back up what I say. However, the most important part is, we need to stop acting like everything is okay. Websites are getting downsized left and right, had I started out in the business around this time...I would be confused as fuck. Like what the hell are we now? One site wants to list us as Jack of all trades, as barbers and gardeners, while showing slides of half naked men on video. EVERYTHING ELSE except for escort. Rentmen now decides to call us pornstars. Adam4adam is just a goddamn circus.

People need to stop being in denial. Everything is not okay, White, Black, Asian, Latino...we're all going to have to return to regular work or pre-Internet era of things. We're being drowned out by a whole bunch of issues, but it's time to speak up. We should be pulling our ads all at once from rentmen and men4rent and letting them know we won't be censored.

These callers on rentmen done got so flaky, I've decided to removed my videos and my private pics have to be purchased for a fee. No free promos, demos, mix tapes, or trial periods. If they want to see me naked with someone other than myself, the client or Rentmen needs to pay for it. If they want to call us pornstars and have no rates, then we looking real bad because it's like we're some kind of Xtube version of Grindr, and they have people calling me not even knowing what the hell. And these dudes calling me don't even seem to have a clue what the site is actually for. Screw that. Give me us our money back Rentmen!

Though, I like their new Hash-tag feature and I hope that it can be considered, "freedom of speech."
