I am looking for a nice resort to stay at when I go to Palm Springs in May. I would prefer a place that is also clothing optional and allows cigar smoking. Any advice would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks!

Nearly all of the Warm Sands area hotels are either fully or partially clothing optional. Some have more than one pool and then one is designated clothing optional and the other is not. Two more pieces of information would help guide you to a better choice: your age and the desired age range of the other guests and if "luxery" or appointments matter to you as far as a "nice" resort.

>and allows cigar smoking.

It is illegal to smoke inside any building in California. This does not keep from smoking, including smoking crystal or pot, but anything indoors which would create a smell or aroma that would linger, such as cigars, may likely get you a comment (or more) from the hotel staff the second day of your stay.

That said, many permit smoking of legal substances, such as cigars, in outdoor areas and some have very nice landscaped grounds.

I suggest you take a look at http://www.palmspringsgay.com/; if you have any specific questions once you do, most of the hotels have toll free number or I would be happy to answer them here.

Enjoy your trip.

Steven,

You were evicted from 4 hotels in maybe 5 days ???.

:-)

Guess you`d better get back for the upcoming Bad Boys Pool Party.

Looks like you could be Bad Boy #1. :9 :9

Wishful thinking, Funseeker ... there is a difference between visiting and staying at ... don't forget that you can buy day passes for those resorts ... or smuggle in. :p

I stayed actually at the Inn Exile.

RE: Marcel Duchamp

Franco, I assume you intended to say that smoking is not allowed in any PUBLIC building in California. However, hotels can still have smoking as well as non-smoking rooms, and I believe that when I recently visited friends who were staying at InnDulge, they were in a smoking room.

RE: Marcel Duchamp

Yes, Charlie, you are correct. However, at MANY of the gay resorts (or perhaps "resorts" would be more correct) in Palm Springs the rooms are non-smoking. They all have easy access to outdoor areas where smoking is allowed.

(At the smaller "resorts" operating on a bit of a shoestring it's mostly a housekeeping issue I suspect.)

The room I'll be in in a couple of weeks is typical. Non-smoking room, but the front door opens on a lovely courtyard and there's a private patio on the back of each room.

It's best to ask when booking the room if it's an issue for you.

Is your room equipped with a sling or just a normal bed ?

Inquiring (dirty) minds want to know ! }(

I`m guessing probably just a "normal sling" + a bed.

It isn't equipped with a sling, but it does have I-bolts in the ceiling and the resort has slings for rent at the office. Just $15/day. Or I could bring my own. }(

Two places i've enjoyed:

The Hacienda~ It's upscale for a gay B&B, relatively quiet and a nice spot if you're looking for relaxation as opposed to a 24-hour orgy. It's convienient to other 'Warm Sands' properties, which means you can easily have the best of both worlds. A place to stay for relaxation and then other places to daypass your way to multiple orgasms.

El Mirasol~ Also located in the Warm Sands area, this is an older guesthouse, but with many modern amenities. Wireless internet, new pool, whirlpool and steam areas and a VERY friendly staff make this resort a plus in my book. Prices are less expensive than Hacienda overall. They have an especially good included breakfast in the AM.

Enjoy PS: Catch a viewing of The Follies downtown if you can. A most amazing show and if memory serves me correct, they currently have Kaye Ballard as their special guest performer.

Warmest Always,

The Follies sucks and BBN should be slapped on the hand for recommending it! Kaye ballard is way over the hill and the show's MC was never on it!

Now I thought you were on your way to London

You know what, I take offense to what you wrote above. Not just because you took a shot at Benjamin, there is also something else to the equation. I suppose from your point of view, you didn't get your entertainment values worth at the Follies. That's fine, cant' please everybody, it's the way of the world. I personally thought the program was absolutely fantastic ( I thought Kaye Ballard was superb in her act ). For me there is a deeper meaning that coincides to what the Follies display. Veterans of past wars are paid tribute by this wonderful cast. I can't think of any other show nationwide who would even consider doing just this.

Lucky, did it ever cross your bloody mind when you wrote your original piece. If it didn't, then you should really think about it. I happen live next door to a veteran of WW II, he and his wife travel to PS very frequently and absolutely love the Follies, for them it brings back lots of memories of another time and era that's long gone for most, but not for them.

My gran dad served in the Royal Airforce during the war. By the time I was old enough to travel. We would drive out to Wales to watch shows with similar themes to the Follies. I found some shows boring, but I learnt to appreciate at a very young the sacrifices that men and women made during times of war. That's why I dont find it terribly uncomfortable in bashing shows with a tribute theme in mind.

My dad served in the Royal Navy for almost ten years. I was talking to him on the phone last weekend and he had just arrived back in London from a few days in Bordeaux. He went to see a production show about British Veterans and he absolutely loved it. It brought back memories for him. I mentinoned to him about the Follies. It caught his interest a bit. He basically said that people should really think hard and appreciate what veterans have had to sacrifice during times of war. For people like him, a show something similar to the Follies is a tribute to the past and more importantly a salute to sacrifices made.

You mentioned about slapping on the hand for suggesting the Follies. You on the other hand Mr Lucky, should be taken behind a shed and paddled until you realise the importance of a show like the Follies and how much of a pleasure it provides the audience, especially veterans.

Thanks again, all. I have stayed in Palm Springs several times, but only once at a gay, clothing optional place, Chestnutz. I had limited recommendations then. It was very nice, small, just south of downtown PS. I had stayed several times at the Ingleside Inn (not gay focused), near downtown PS, the location of Melvyn's Restaurant, which I liked very much. Any other restaurants you specially like?

BTW, I have not seen the follies, but everyone, who has had anything to say about them to me, has liked them very much.

I think the best rstaurant in town is LeVallauris, but it is pretty pricey--unless you are a real gourmet, you probably wouldn't want to dine there alone. If you like Indian, an excellent new restauarnt named Monsoon opened only a month ago at Sunrise and Ramon; at least half the patrons have been gay on each of my four visits. The standard gay restaurant is Blame It On Midnight.

Blame it on Midnight is OK, and not horribly overpriced. I've certainly enjoyed myself there.

Another favorite, if you're in Cathedral City, is the Red Tomato. A little bit Italian, a little bit Hungarian, but don't go there for hip or trendy. Go there to put on the feed bag. (And it's crowded, so don't go there for intimacy.)

I stayed at Triangle Inn twice lastyear. I like it very much. It is smaller, the owners are very nice, it is almost like being a guest in someones home for a weekend. Gets a nice crowd many different ages and yes I got laid more than once.}(

One of my favorite restaurants is Pomme Fritte which is downtown on the main drag. Had dinner their twice when I was in PS in December. As an added bonus my waiter both nights was Dillon Press- the porn actor. Unfortunately he kept his clothes on but he a charming man and a good waiter, and what a body even with clothes on.}(

Dillon is a sweetheart. He's also a talented ASL interpreter. (Signing for the deaf.) He often volunteers to sign during porn events.

It's a little distracting when, f'rinstance, Trannyshack's Heklina is telling jokes and Dillon is shirtless and signing. All eyes are on him! LOL

And thanks for the restaurant tips, guys! I'll be down there next weekend and it's always good to have some ideas when someone in the group asks "where should we go for dinner?" :-)
