So I am at work and I notice a few Morman boys at the checkout line and they are getting a case of Mountain Dew. Now it is my understanding that Mountain Dew has cafeen in it and my understanding is that they are not allowed to drink cafeen. Have the rules changed or is there no cafeen in Mountain Dew?

Hugs,

Greg

Oops sorry Taylor you are right. Technicaly my question was about religion and should be moved. To the moderators and anyone else I may have offended I am sorry and I will be ready shortly for my public flogging. Only thing I ask is no floggers with rubber or threads mixed with rubber, those really sting and hurt ;(

Hugs,

Greg

P.S. To the moderators I am being a smart ass and know that you are just following the rules. Don't take what I just said seriously. I am a moderator of a chat room and get razzed all the time but know most are just kidding as I am right now.

LOL! I have recieved a lashing to or from Doug but nothing too bad in the past. This might come as a shock although I don't always agree with what he says I do respect what he has to say and I think it is good to hear someone elses option and thoughts. I think that it helps create some good debates and makes people think even if the others option is not along what everyone else thinks.

Jack as much as I like you. I don't think it is caffeine free. When I need a pick me up it gives it to me. Also many of the younger hunkier young college boys that I went to school with ,when I was 45 and they were 19 and whould know said it gave them one too and that's why they drank it but what do I know?. Back to the question at hand and those "meaty" Mormon boys... I asked my cousin in Arizona who is a practicing LDS and she also drinks Diet Coke. Apparently the prohibition applies strictly only to coffee and tea (as is regulated in the Mormon "Covenants and Promises"). Some choose to apply it more strictly to all beverages and hence go the 7UP route. They are tastey no matter what they drink!!!!!}(

Peace,

As a former Mormon (and a current resident of Utah), I can confirm the caffeine question. A previous poster hit the nail on the head when he said that the doctrine specifically prohibits tea, coffee, and "hot drinks".

For many years most Mormons did NOT drink caffinated soda. When I was a missionary we were specifically told not to drink caffinated drinks (including coffee, tea, AND soda). That interpretation of the scripture was openly preached from the pulpit for many years.

In the late 70's the Mormon Church hired an outside (non-Mormon) firm to do an in-depth marketing study. They developed a long-term strategy and PR program for the Mormon Church to address the common perception that Mormonism is a cult. Since then, the Mormon Church has made a constant effort to appear more "main stream".

This PR campaign has resulted in major changes in several areas. Only tea and coffee are specifically prohibited. The Mormon underwear was redesigned to make them less obvious and "odd". (They now look like regular white t-shirts and boxers.) There were also changes in the temple ceremony and teachings on blood atonement.

No. And there are probably a few recovering Catholics too.

Name a religion, and we've got (at least) one of those.

Welcome.
