I always feel uncomfortable with the unread mark of posts, so I always open them to remove the mark even if I am not interested in the topic.

Is it kind of OCD?

"Mark Forums Read" (top left under the word "Reviews") is your friend.

Only if you don't notice the "Mark Forums Read" link at the top.

But.....

Sometimes the discussion thread ventures into topics, related or otherwise.... and I, too, fear that I might miss out on some gem tucked away someplace.

I call it "intellectual curiosity" - sounds better than OCD!

There was a period in my career where I would throw every other piece of paper in my mailbox away (taught to me by my Uncle.) "If it's important it'll come back", "if it doesn't you haven't lost anything"

This may explain why I never got a draft notice (actually a completely different reason, I missed the cutoff by exactly one day.) (Super huge party that the Sheriff ignored for exactly 24 hours in Oklahoma City)

I missed the Draft by 4 days - thank you Jesus. I often wonder what I would have done if I had been drafted cause I was vehemently against the war. My best friend who was drafted proclaimed himself a "Conscientious Objector" but still had to do "alternative service" working in a VA hospital for several years.

BTW, I used to work with clients who had OCD. It is a very debilitating disorder that I found very difficult to treat. Especially difficult were the hoarders, a type of OCD. I worked with one woman who absolutely could not throw out anything in the back seat of her car, including the garbage from visits to McDonalds.

I call that the Klingon approach. The mail must DESERVE to get through. (I use the same approach with phone calls.)

I collect my mail while pulling in the driveway. There's a recycle box in the garage. 90% of what's in my mailbox never sees the inside of the house. If it's not from somebody/thing I know and I'm not expecting it, in the bin. Particularly if it doesn't have first class postage.

I'm interested in studying exposure therapy or CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) as a means of helping those with OCD. Until then, I'll just have to stick with the other CBT (cock/ball torture). I wonder if CBT could ever be used as a form of CBT.

I wonder if a CBT (computer-based training) on CBT (cock & ball torture) would be effective exposure therapy for CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy).

When running my errands, walking around, using public transportation, I used to count the guys I would have sex with. Often I would go over one hundred, and always would get very frustrated when losing the count.

This reminds me of a fun game of quantifying "average looking". Get onto a subway, for example, and count the number of males in your section. Leave no one out. Then stack rank them. Pretty soon you realize that average (well, ok, median) is a lot worse than people take "average looking" to mean.

I do something kind of like that while I'm doing cardio at the gym. I pick the three guys I'd most want to have sex with, and then rank them accordingly.

It helps to pass the time. :)

And yeah, I love the "Mark Forums Read" feature. I use it all the time!

Exposure and Response Prevention has been shown to be an effective treatment for OCD. It is indeed a form of CBT. If you would like a PDF pamphlet from Exeter University in the UK that describes the details of ERP, go to

If this is the extent of your OCD you are indeed fortunate. Take it from one who knows.

And yes, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps.

As long as you don't read ALL the books on OCD you're doing ok.

Just started reading a book on OCD and I can't put it down! http://www.boytoy.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
