Last year she sang our national anthem brilliantly.

This year she'll be the half-time headliner. The rumors surrounding Gaga’s halftime performance are already SWIRLING. Gaga is intent on making the halftime show the biggest and most unforgettable in history, which, knowing her, is quite plausible. There are already rumors that at $10 million, this is the most expensive halftime show that the NFL has ever produced.

The girl can sing and I suspect this will probably be a very memorable show.

Let's just hope it doesn't come across as.....

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Half time shows have pretty much been a disaster They try to do a lot in a little time with overproduction and bad sound. I hope it works out for her but I am not as confident as you are that a voice is enough

I see you have your topic sentences for tomorrow's curmudgeon post. I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

There are a few memorable Superbowl half-time productions that have actually been pretty good. This remains one of my favorites, but then again, I've always been a huge Madonna fan. The ending is just fabulous. :cool: you can click vimeo bottom right corner of the player for full screen HD. (recommended)

Old and inflexible here...the national anthem has the demands for a well-trained singing voice. I am so ticked by the unending stream of untrained voices screeching through the traditional version or modifying the melody to accommodate their vocal inabilities. Most major sporting events are hosted in large cities. I'm sure any voice teacher or voice major at a local university would welcome the opportunity to sing the national anthem for the event, and since most voice majors are not permitted to sing professionally (get paid for it) while in school (one of my cousins was severely held accountable for doing that), it would be a win/win. Let the entertainers have their way with their half-time shows, but spare (preserve) the national anthem.

Over our summer of cricket in Australia, we've had touring sides from South Africa, Pakistan and New Zealand. We've had unheralded but competent singers perform great versions of their national anthems and ours at the start of the games.

I always had fantasies about her dancers. I got to briefly date one of them, one of my best memories.

She's always had/has the hottest and highly skilled dancers. Lucky you!

Country singer Luke Bryan will be doing the honor this year, a bit surprising since he apparently botched the anthem in the 2012 All-Star Game. I wonder why the NFL doesn't find an active member of the military or a veteran who has the necessary voice training. After all the bad publicity and drop in ratings the NFL has suffered from the Kaepernick controversy, the NFL needs a boost of good PR.

Major props for live vocals throughout the performance. You don't normally see that in a public event of that size and venue. The drones were cool and the patriotic opening was welcoming, particularly at this time. I'll leave it at that.
