I understand Hooboy is the person that started this site and certainly recognize the impact it has had on a number of people. But who exactly was Hooboy? Was he an escort himself? Can anyone give some biographical information on him other than his claim to fame related to this website?

HB was a fiercely private person and rarely opened up the rest of his life for people to see.

All you really need to know is that HooBoy was one amazing individual who changed people's lives for the better. He was NOT an escort. He simply identified with the industry and this site was the brainchild of his creativity & passion.

HooBoy is known and appreciated by the folks who come to M4M for the kinds of reasons listed in the various threads of appreciation that are here in the Lounge. Basically, a lot of people found this Website to be very helpful to them, whether as an escort or as a client or as simply gay men who didn't have anywhere else to go to talk to other, like-minded gay men. M4M has become a large community from which many people have benefited.

HooBoy the man appreciated privacy and went to great lengths to preserve privacy for the people he dealt with here and also for himself. In death, it's possible that some information will filter out but I hope people continue to respect his privacy and that of his family.

HooBoy wasn't an escort himself. But he helped many young men who were escorts with kindness and patience. His idea for M4M turned out to be one of those classic "right idea at the right time" strokes of good fortune and he worked hard to make it succeed.

As a professional, HB was successful. As a man, he had many friends. He had a great sense of humor, didn't dwell on things that annoyed him, and took enjoyment from each day. He believed in hard work and worked hard himself. His family was very important to him and he chronicled the death of his sister a few years ago; if you search, you can probably still find those threads.

All in all, he was a damned good guy.

Ben people do not like to be told all you really need to know, that is an arrogant statement. You should be ashamed of yourself for using such an elitist pharse.

To Argos if you search under HooBoy and read many of his posts you'll get to know quite abit about him and who he was even outside of this web site. He claimed to be a private person yet if you read carefully he actually shared quite a bit about himself. In some of the more serious threads his suggestions are right on target.

He had many posts but start from the first one and read a few each night. You'll quickly get the idea.

BN was not tring to be elitist, although the tone is rougher than we are used to hearing from him on this board. His intent is to KEEP HOO'S PRIVACY as he would have wished. We can already see little bits being leaked within the first 48 hours. We can all be assured that Hoo implemented safeguards in the system to protect our anonymity, even in the event of his death. BN is reaching out to aggressively represent Hoo's privacy as well.

Daddy and the moderators will not be able to leave the computer, for fear that someone will POST HIS OBITUARY, or maliciously reveal information not intented for the masses.

Exactly.

I would like to point out to everyone that there are people who monitor this site who are no friend to M4M or to HooBoy. I'd very much like to see HB's family be able to have a funeral service that was not disrupted by crazy people with an agenda and urge everyone here, in the strongest possible terms, to not post any identifying information or even information that could lead people to HB's family. They are suffering enough as it is.

Something I'd add is that HooBoy originally came up with the idea for this site after he'd been ripped off a few times by "bad" escorts (or just had bad experiences). He wanted to find a way for clients to give each other the lowdown on who was good and who wasn't, with an emphasis on who was good. He was more concerned with passing on good news than bad -- always emphasizing the postive over the negative. I recall him saying in a post once that he didn't enjoy posting negative reviews; that he got no "thrill" from trashing another person. However, once he did his screening/vetting process to make sure a review was genuine, he of course posted it and did not edit. But his goal was never to tear another person down; he just wanted to make sure others had a good time. So, he had an idea with the best of intentions, and it became something much greater than he could ever have imagined. Or maybe he did envision it to be exactly what it has become. I think he tended to dream big.

But yes, please, let's respect and protect his privacy as he worked so hard to do for the rest of us.

Argos, I think you have asked a couple of good questions and you certainly have the right to post those here. Its apparent that you haven't been around too long, but that fact has done little to diminish the sympathy you feel for the site's founder and creator.

Having said that, I can only speculate that BN's response was based in large part on his current mourning mode and expression of grief. Otherwise, I can't imagine how anyone would respond in such a flip and (in my opinion) caustic fashion. Your inquiry was innocent; the initial responses were not.

Despite HooBoy's desire to be private and the intensity with which his colleagues want to preserve that privacy, anyone with an ounce of Google can ultimately figure out about what and about whom we are talking about. But that's not the point.

The point is respect. Certainly for the living, but also for the memory of the recently departed. Homicide detectives, among others, are quick to tell us that the dead have no reason to maintain privacy and withhold secrets, but I WOULD prefer to think that HooBoy is STILL among us, in spirit, if not in body, and it just goes without saying that we should maintain, at his bequest, the same level of discretion.

Life is stressful enough; being alive has an inordinate amount of challenges. I would like to think that the deceased, HooBoy among them, have earned the right to truly rest in peace.

Sadly, but lovingly,

Argos, I would like to add.....search through the archives and read the postings by HooBoy......they might give you a good feeling for what this man was all about.

Sinners have no scruples;

Saints try to save sinners;

but PIONEERS don't care about either; its their vision that's important.

HooBoy was a PIONEER !

I meant no disrespect nor was I trying to invade Hooboy's privacy by my original post. I was simply trying to find out what it was about this man that caused such an outpouring of sympathy and fond remembrances. He was obviously well respected by many of the men who post on this site. I was particularly moved by Rick Munroe's thread that ended with the simple but profound statement "I love you" as his closing remarks to Hooboy. Those 3 words convey a powerful sentiment, and something that I personally have not had spoken to me in a long time.

I apologize if my initial post was somewhat acidic.

It's been a bad few days and i'm feeling somewhat empty inside, both emotionally and physically. I appreciate that you want to know more about HB and i'm sure that many more here on the MC will share their memories of such a great guy in the coming weeks.

As for my first post being called arrogant: There was NO such intention and if the poster even had a clue as to how close i was to HB, then he may not have made such an assumption. I was simply looking to protect his privacy. Nothing more.

I have been a close observer and participant in this message board for well over 2 years and have myself wondered from time to time who HooBoy really was and what he was like, so I can identify with someone with the same curiosity. I only had e-mail contact with HooBoy once over a matter of a review of mine that went astray, along with one of HooBoy's laptop computers.

By reading quite a few of his own personal postings and postings of others about him, I gleaned quite a bit of biographical info, if you can call it that, that gave me a partial picture of the man. Reading the testimonials and remembrances in the various threads since his death have added quite a bit to the profile.

You and others have stated that he was a very private person and I can understand that, although I have to wonder why such a person would engage in running a website like this one when questions would inevitably be raised as to the owner behind this enterprise for whatever reasons. Be that as it may, I appreciate the fact that those closest to him are endeavouring to continue to protect his privacy and I would not criticize that either. May he rest in peace.

I was much sexier and far more flexible in younger years ... but, that being said, I'm on the younger end of the age spectrum in this community, with a tight butt .... no six pack though :9

Argos,

Read the Amazing News post that was re-posted last week in the Lounge. I think you'll find some history of the site and its creator. His wit, humor and thoughts regarding this site are all evident within his posts there.
