This is a very distressing article to read. A young straight guy posed as an escort on Backpage and murders the client by kicking him to death.

We all, clients and escorts, need to be diligent about personal safety. One of my first hires resulted in an assault and robbery. I was slammed against a wall and the guy pressed his forearm on my throat. He then knocked me to the floor, kicked me in the stomach, and stepped on my hand. After that he took my money and nearly left me stranded in a remote area of Atlanta.

I learned a lot of lessons from that experience. I also never let this experience darken my views about escorts in general. The greatest blessing from this experience was that I discovered Hooboy's original review site and this message board.

This site taught me how to be a smarter client and led me to incredible escort experiences. I'm indebted to the posters here for sharing their wisdom about hiring. It has also been a distinct pleasure to meet some of the members here in person at the D.C. Forum gatherings. It goes without saying that the escorts I've hired from here have been wonderful as well. I have made some good friends in the process which makes me feel fortunate.

Let's all be careful out there.

It is a tragic story and while there is a risk in hiring an unknown person, the victim here made some incredibly dangerous decisions. Why would anyone agree to go with an unknown person to a remote, wooded area?

Lots of people get off on outdoor sex, and anonymous sex.

I never really thought of myself as the "outdoor tricking" type, but when moving to Boston for college, I was brave and curious enough one night to try out "the fens" - a notorious outdoor cruising area in the Fenway. I remember wandering around for a while, not finding much I wanted to get involved in, and starting to leave. As I started to walk out, I saw another guy waling toward me. I tried to veer out of his direction, but before I could get far, he had punched me in the nose and I fell to the ground. He mugged me for all of the $20 I had in my wallet, and luckily left it at that. Somehow I was able to take care of my bloody nose and make my way back to the free shuttle that would take me back to campus. (Had that shuttle not been available, I don't know what I would have done, as I had no money to get home otherwise.)

I consider myself damn lucky to have gotten away with just a bloody nose, losing a little cash, and my wounded pride. Quite an education for an 18-year old in what is generally thought of as a very safe city.

I've never gone back since. That was over 30 years ago.

bostonman, I'm glad you're still with us. The only difference between your outcome in the Fens and this poor guy who was murdered in Boise is a stroke of luck.

It's important to keep in mind that this could have happened to anyone. A young escort could have been lured into the same horrible situation with the same result.

These murders happen way to often. In 1985 on a Saturday I saw a television director and producer. He didn't show up on Sunday. He was found bludgeoned to death in his garage. This was an unsolved case until last year. I've always suspected he picked up the wrong person. No details have yet been released.

ALL encounters with a complete stranger, carry a degree of risk. This is why I am never interested in quick transactions. If someone can't spend a few minutes chatting and exchanging a bit of friendly conversation, I prefer to move on, as sociopaths aren't obvious to you by exchanging a few photos...but a few exchanges back and forth might seem "off" if you're dealing with an unstable personality.

Indeed.

I do tend to do hookups with guys online - but I always make it clear that I want to chat a bit first to get to feel friendlier before committing to meet. (And when the talk turns to sex, it can be a fun way to whet the appetite too.) If a guy is too impatient and can't hold a decent, affable conversation online first, I don't go through with meeting.

One more jewel from BP... and I'm not saying I can't happen with a regular site.

Reminds me of a previous case here in DC.

sadly, we all have these stories. When I was in high school I entered a play competition; of course, nobody else in the school wanted to partake so I chose a two person show and recruited a girl from an all-girls school across town.

We went to the semi-finals, which was cool. One of the judges was a teacher at a college in Boston that had a big theater arts program. I toured the school later and contemplated going there. Then I read that the professor had been murdered by a guy he had met.

He was so kind. I cried.

could happen in all sorts of situations. And you could get run over bus a tomorrow too.

I'm sure I've posted before that I've been with two escorts who ended up in jail for murder. One worked for an agency in Philly. The other was regular freelance guy here in DC who I got together with a couple of times. He seemed a bit odd from time to time but I never felt unsafe. Probably one of the hottest escorts I had been with, actually, from a physical standpoint. But certainly reading about their arrests a couple of years later did give me some pause.

I am always amazed by the sheer stupidity of these killers. In the original article it states that the killer posted as an Escort on Backpage. So, already there is a trail. Since the victim responded, probably on his own computer, there is another trail for the detectives. And, the killer agrees to meet victim at the Wal-Mart where they have closed-circuit video every 50 feet. He also enlisted two confederates to lie in wait. So now the killer has two witnesses just aching to testify against him for a plea deal. And what does the killer get out of all this - aside from a life sentence in the state penitentiary - a few dollars? Man, if these killers were any stupider they'd have to be watered twice a week.
