I recently had an encounter with a very fake profile who i hired and discovered too late was a scam! office it to say, it was a very uncomfortable and arguably dangerous situation to extricate myself from. I posted about it here as a warning, but my post was removed by a moderator because apparently it seemed too much like a review.

Nevertheless, I explained in the "warning" that this escort did not have any threads about him on this message board. I trust Daddy's quite a bit, but I trust this message board more. I find this site to be FAR more timely and current since the messages here don't rely on one overworked person to post them. A lot of ads only appear for short bursts and I have met several escorts who do not have reviews on daddy's because they simply don't advertise long enough to get noticed or accepted by daddy. Further, I have known of many who are new and for whom reviews have simply not been posted yet, because daddy has such a long turnover time. Anyway... i'm back on my soapbox....

For this unknown escort, there were no posts on this board. So, I reverse image searched his photos and they pointed back to a instagram page of a young man in NYC, which was appropriate.

From the instagram page I located this mans Facebook page and ascertained that the man in the photos is gay, which also was reassuring.

The picture on the ad matched up with a person who and who was in the same city as I. Usually thats all i need to feel pretty comfortable with someone being legit. But because this escort was ridiculously and unbelievably hot, I decided to ask for a three finger selfie also.

He sent it.

Three checks for authenticity. All of them checked.

I hired him. He came over. He was fake. Disaster ensued.

I discovered later that night that the person who's pictures were being used happened to have a picture on his Facebook page of him holding up three fingers. (I believe he was holding up the "west side" sign... which is the same.) I had not searched far enough down the page to notice that during my initial glance at his FB pictures. Had I seen it before on the FB page I would have know it was not taken in the moment. I'll be asking for something more difficult to replicate than a simple three fingers in the future.

If "west side" is holding three fingers up... Can anyone think of a reason someone would hold up four fingers? That may have be my new go-to.

My point of course being.... maybe we should consider a new test for authenticity besides three fingers, since that seems to be something that some folks do for fun already.

Yes I don't really trust 3FS anymore for all these reasons. But I've never had an escort willing to Skype. So sometimes you have to take a chance.

Not if you're at risk. I am a big guy - most people are afraid of me in a fight, and I've had faker escorts demand I pay them even though they know they are fakers. I've had to get physical or call hotel security, etc.

i don't know why, but i'm often surprised at the lengths someone would go through to deceive, particularly when they are going to be found out and they know it!

so i'm curious - under what circumstances do you (anyone reading this) feel like a 3 finger selfie is required? in general, what kind of checks do you perform and what's the threshold - what do you need to see or know before you consider your vetting process complete?

i'm also asking because i rarely get asked for a skype or 3 finger selfie verification - occasionally i get people asking for "more pictures" and one kid asked me for a "dick pic to see if i'm legit" - i always refuse because i have plenty of pictures on my rentmen with links to my website, reviews, and social media - in a matter of minutes, someone can see hundreds of pictures of me as well as movie clips - much of it is recent (within a week) - however, i always accept requests for phone calls or meeting in a public place if someone wants to feel me out. my reasoning is that people who are asking for more pics from me are either too lazy to look at my gallery on RM or are picture collectors who aren't satisfied after they've scoured the internet for more of me where i find folks who want to talk on the phone (mostly) have questions or concerns they want to discuss in detail - in short, asking for pictures means (to me) you're not serious.

I do know that after becoming more active in reading threads in here and participating in the conversations, I am much more cautious on my hiring. Sometimes, even the reviews posted on this website do not have half the weight as some of the conversations I have read on here. I read the experiences people have and you think "that could have been me". @NickKnack, I am glad that you are ok at least.

I have chatted with guys on hookup sites before who like to exchange current pics and to prove they are real and current will ask the sender to post a pic with a piece of paper with their online handle and date on it and say they will return the favor.

If an escort sends a fake pic, why not simply say no and refuse to hire them if there is no attraction? I've met guys on hookup sites before who looked nothing like their pics and were 10+ years older and 20+ heavier than thgeir posted pic and just simply said it won't work

Jeez people. Most of today's camera's have a time stamp feature built in. Seems like a very simple solution. Virtually impossible to change other then erasing or cropping it out later on.

Once I've read on Grindr: "Please don't put on 20 lbs. and 10 years on your way to my place or you'll go back home horny and with a feeling of rejection".

...so i'm curious - under what circumstances do you (anyone reading this) feel like a 3 finger selfie is required?...

I've never asked for one. When I suspect that pics are fake or the ad text seems suspicious, I don't contact the escort. When emailing or talking with an escort and I get a bad vibe or he says something that puts me off, I don't proceed with the hire.

...in general, what kind of checks do you perform and what's the threshold - what do you need to see or know before you consider your vetting process complete?...

When I find someone from Rentmen, I check M4RN for a profile and vice versa. Then I Google the phone number and see whether any of the results raise a red flag (e.g. it links to an ad for a female escort). Then I just read the ad text and trust my instincts to guide me.

I've asked for one a couple times - all for Backpage. Primarily because, well, BP probably has the highest consistency of flakes.

One guy was rather funny about it. He proceeded to flood me with him holding 3 fingers up making all types of funny faces. Quite entertaining. Needless to say I met up with him immediately, haha.

Another person tried to comply with the request, but was so sketchy about it. He sent me one, of 3 fingers on his shoulder.. No face... Just a shoulder, fingers and a ceiling.. He refused to send one showing that it was him. No amount of searching, or reverse image searching returned anything useful and the phone number was VOIP. He also wouldn't meet in a public place beforehand. Suffice to say I stopped all communication as I enjoy being alive.

It doesn't always have to be the 3fingered selfie that you use for verification. Meet somewhere public before! "Hey, I'm going to grab a coffee before you come over, meet me there and we can both head over". Or vica versa, "I'll stop at a place close to you, meet me there and lead the way."

If there is no intent, or attempt at easing the thought that troubles you - how great of an experience do you even expect to have?
