Well, the fireworks in Sydney are over and we're 25 minutes into 2017, and so far so good!

A happy, safe and prosperous New Year to one and all. No matter how good 2016 was to you, may the new year be better. Enjoy the thrill of the new as your time zone ticks over into the future!

The past two years have been up-and-down for me. Thank you all for being here.

Happy 2017. May God(dess)/Higher Power/the Universe/Life/Mother Earth/Father Time/any deity I've forgotten bless us --- every single one.

Oh, my. Is the restaurant and wine store Phantom of the Opera still open? It's on The Rocks, nearby to where this picture would have been taken.

I don't know it and I couldn't find any reference to it on line. There are lots of restaurants at The Rocks, and I suspect they turn over quite quickly. The Rocks is at the southern end of the bridge and would be behind the Opera House as seen in this photo, which would have been taken from Mrs Macquaries Chair or the Botanical Gardens east of the city.
