LA Times reported all passengers evacuated safely, although NBC Chicago reports 8 injured. Glad it happened on the runway and not on takeoff. No one wants a repeat of flight 191 - the infamous AA DC10 disaster in the 1970's.

Still remember seeing the smoke from my front yard. Scary.

Many years ago I was involved in a crash landing at an intermediate stop on a cross country trip, and managed to escape with nothing but the ruin of a good pair of shoes by the flame retardant sprayed around the plane while evacuating. Six hours later, I was on another flight, and then another, before I finally got home exhausted only a few hours before I had to go to work. My luggage got re-routed and lost, and didn't show up--somewhat battered--for two more days. That bothered me more than the original accident. But I refused to fly that airline for years afterwards.
