Although he is much too modest to call attention to himself, I think it is appropriate for us to acknowledge that today Lucky made post number 5000. Some may grouse that many of his posts are short, flippant and contain typos. Others complain that some of his posts are long and too detailed for those with short attention spans. Some object to his obsession with attractive young escorts, others to his preoccupation with politics and issues of the day unrelated to escort hiring. All of these quibbles are irrelevant, because we all know that BIGGER IS BETTER, and Lucky's share of the posts on this message board is one of the biggest (though not THE biggest, a title that belongs to another poster too modest to crow about it).

Therefore, let's all give three cheers to Lucky for hitting the big 5000!!!

I wouldn't grouse about that. I'd grouse that virtually all of his comments are confined to the trite, the banal, the obvious and the trivial, no matter what the actual subject of the post may be.

I've been criticized in the past for being unwilling to share with this board any personal details or life experiences. But the fact is that Lucky is far more deserving of that criticism than I am. If you take his posts at face value, you have to conclude that his life has consisted of nothing but drooling over hookers and porn models, watching crappy mass-market Hollywood movies and participating in gay ocean cruises and other pastimes designed for gay men who have nothing real to do.

Frankly, I just don't believe that. I don't believe Lucky is nothing more than a walking cliche, a stereotypical resident of the gay ghetto who never does or thinks about anything that is not part of that incredibly narrow, boring subculture.

You know what that means, of course. It means that he actually HAS done and thought about some interesting and original things at some point in his life, but he prefers to conceal such things in his communications on this board. He is concealing the person he really is, and is hiding behind an insipid, culturally empty cliche. Criticize me for being unwilling to share personal things here if you wish -- but also recognize that Lucky is even more closed-off in that regard than I am. He isn't just unwilling to share, he's pretending that he HAS nothing to share. Devious!

Lucky,

You should have told me that all of the personal things you have shared with me are not true. Imagine, keeping secrets like that, you devious slut.

Anyway, congrats on keeping so much of yourself to yourself in so many posts.

Here's to having 5,000 more posts totally without any personal information. }(

In response to woodlawn:

You don't know Lucky. I do. I've spent quite a bit of time with him in NY, at dinner, the theater and many fun filled hours at the Gaiety. Eveything you say about him is completely wrong.

He is one of the most interesting, intelligent and fascinating people I have ever met on or off this board. He has had an amazing career, several in fact that would put most of us who have ever held a job to shame. He is accomplished in more areas than you can imagine. He has travelled widely through out the world. He is well read and well informed on so many topics. You do him an injustice and you should make it your business to get to know the man in person. I'm sure you would change your mind about everyting you've said.

I always look forward to reading what he has to say and I think many would agree that he's never dull or boring.

I can't wait for the next 5,000 posts.

I am just pissed that I missed an opportunity to meet Lucky in Montreal by just a couple of days (our ships passed in the night).

Here's hoping that 2005 will by my chance to get lucky and meet lucky!

Let's keep in touch regarding our travel schedules, Lucky!

: Devious? Apparently not!

I understand from people who have met him that he is EXACTLY as he appears here on this message center.

I'll leave your chararcterization of how he appears to you.

To Lucky----Congratulations and thanks for all the posts. And a personal thank you for the kind private email. You're a real gentleman.

LOL Noviceny!

You made me laugh a lot, man! I guess that your post encourages me to congratulate Lucky even more!

I really hope that there will be more people out there driven by such passion, fun and enjoyment.

RE: Devious!

Woodlawn, yours is the strange sort of veiled compliment that is so... did you say "devious"?... yet so charming in it's strained delivery. Congratulations, because I know that saying something nice is as difficult as passing a kidney stone for you. You will always be my favorite old grouse on this board!!!

As for you Lucky, I hope your enjoyable presence continues on this board for many a year! Let me know if you come to "The City", I'd love to share a cocktail with you.

Agree or not...

Foxy,

I think you read past Woodie's point or got caught up in his set-up to it.

From what I have heard he doesn't look a day over 1000. :+

On a more somber note... if Hoo Boy starts passing out bills in arrears based on the number of posts then Lucky is up **** creek. IN fact quite a few of us will have to opt for the indentured servitude pay-off plan. :p

I have had the pleasure of Lucky's company for dinner and bar hopping in NYC, L.A. and Rio! Smart, Interesting and Fun! He's one of the guys that I have met through this board that I am happy to call a friend! Congrats!

It's been nice all day to hear good things about myself and realize that I am not at my funeral! Thanks guys for all the nice compliments, and woodlawm, thanks for thinking through what my life might be like. It's somewhere between what you say and what my friend foxy says. Either way I am lucky to have the support and friendship of so many guys. I appreciate it.

Let's keep the board interesting and fun. First step: fire Hooboy!

(Just kidding, hoo)

I've never had the pleasure of your company...but I feel as though I have. After all, I've invited you in my home 5000 times! Congratulations!

I never meant any of those things I said about Lucky.

Sorry Woodie.

Boy, this conversation is deteriorating fast! I am glad I sent foxy's comments to my mom before he took it back!:)
