There was a time not so many years ago when I had no idea what www and the world-wide web meant. Now I am being told that my generation wll be soon joining the youngsters looking for Play Stations to play a super (they say) new game called Grand Theft Auto, where, I think, you get to kill a lot of people.

So could one of you younger guys tell me what this is all about? How do you play thesee games? Doesn't it take a lot of thumbs?

Thanks for the help. BTW, what is an IPOD and why would I want one?

I have a Playstation however, I have not hooked it up since I moved to my new place (2 years ago). My nephew has Grand Theft Auto Vice City and I have played it once. I personally like football, baseball and killing games! I am horrible at the driving games.

Now an IPOD! It is the favorite item I have ever owned! I have a 40gb one and have put about 75 of my fav CD's on it so far! Love it! The best thing I ever bought!

Now do you need me to explain what a remote control is? :-)

GTA is a series of games by Rockstar Games. First there was Grand Theft Auto, then GTA, GTA2, Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, plus a few add on packs.

The GTA series games are available, depending on the version, for various platforms, including the Game Boy, Playstation 2, Xbox, and the PC.

The games have all been bigs hits, and some have won game of the year awards, but they are all very violent games and marked as being for "Mature Audiences" only. Of course, they are also quite popular with the under 21-set.

The basic idea of GTA is that you are set down in the middle of detailed, populated, typically urban setting, and allowed to raise havoc, say by stealing cars, robbing stores, smashing buildings, and mugging and killing people--innocent or otherwise--with the goal of establishing your repuration as a vicious criminal.

You are usually presented with a set of missions to perform to earn money and increase your infamy, but you can take as much time as your want to proceed through the game. For example, you might entertain yourself between missions by trying to kill every pedestrain in a particular neigborhood.

You can get more information on the games by checking out: http://www.gamespot.com or http://www.ign.com, both of which have full reviews of the GTA games.

Meanwhile, an iPod is a small, extremely stylish, electronic device made by Apple Computer that allows you to take recorded music, stored on your home computer, and listen to it as you would say a portable radio, cassette player, or cd walkman.

The advantage of the iPod over those old devices is that you can record as much of your private music collection as you like (up to many thousands of songs) and listen to it at high quality and in any order you choose without having to cart around piles of CDs or tapes.

They are great to have when you have a lot of time on your hands and you need something to keep you going, say at the gym, while communiting to work, or taking a long trip.

Check out http://www.apple.com/ipod/ for more info.

Ditto. I discovered iPod recently and now, I never leave home without it! It is simply fabulous!

To me, this describes the end of civilization: supposedly normal people "playing" at being sociopaths, while the rest are "listening" mindlessly to music to avoid interacting with the world. It's enough to make me trash my computer and go for a hike in the wilderness, accompanied by birdsong.

If you enjoy carrying around a Sony Walkman or other "personal listening device" you might like the IPOD. It's basically the same as the Walkman, but instead of carrying around cd's to play you record all the cd's on the IPOD's hard disk.

If, on the other hand, you're not much of a Walkman-style person then the IPOD may be wasted on you. I've tended not to use the walkmen I've owned over the years, and that trend continues with MP3 players like IPOD. <shrug>

The latest incarnation of the iPod allows you to store and view images. Theoretically, you can now have "porn on the go" (if you can deal with looking at tiny images). I'm sure some aftermarket guru will come up with a portable iPod monitor, as this little device has had a whole bunch of new spin-off companies and devices arise for use with it. I'm waiting for aftermarket electro-sucking lips to go along with the photo ready model. Maybe a vibration transmitting buttplug that pulsates to whatever song you're listening to. I guess the possibilities are endless.

I enjoy my iPod, but don't use it as much as I thought I would. With music available for play from my computer, unless I'm on the road or traveling by other means, I haven't used it as much as I would have thought. That said, it's still a very nifty gadget.

RE: Grand Theft Auto: Hooville Version

Thanks for the info, guys. I don't think I will need an Ipod since Ihave never carried music around.

However, can you imagine the Grand Theft Auto: Hooville version? you will be able to go from forum to forum blasting away at those posters who get on your nerves...
