This conversation with Moondance inspired me to start this thread.

 

A pornstar told me by PM not to upload links to his pornhub.com videos on here. He said free porn is the reason why their pay got cut off to 2/3 of what they used to get paid last year. I simply deleted the whole thread dedicated to him on here, too many rules... no youtube Rentboy videos of him either...

 

Marylander, you did the considerate thing in honoring the man's request. But I wonder about his logic.

 

We are periodically told that client-posters here are a tiny microcosm of the hiring universe. We are told this to diminish the relevance of the opinions expressed, or to discount the site as a whole. It's an obnoxious thing (especially when it comes from someone too tender-aged to be so arrogant), but there's probably an element of truth to it. No, not that all the opinions expressed here should be so casually dismissed, but that we probably are just a small percentage of those who hire. And in that likely case, it's hard to imagine that a little free publicity here has been a contributing factor at all to porn pay cuts. This site is hardly a "porn aggregator." We share a lot of words, and to a far lesser degree, some images, and to an even lesser degree than that, some video links.

 

I'd bet a twenty that the man whose request you received by PM has himself used this Forum to promote his porn career (and perhaps, by extension, to promote himself in other ways. In fact, given the unexceptional pay, perhaps his involvement in porn has always been more about about marketing than money.) And what, after all, was your intent when you originally posted the thread that you have since deleted? I'm just guessing that it was a way of celebrating the guy. Expressing your favorable impression of his appeal. Promoting him within this small community.

 

So rather than imply that you have contributed to a loss of income, it seems to me that a more logical PM from him to you would have read, Thank you.

I do remember that I quickly became hooked on all of you and the services offered here, and stopped sampling other sites. I know that without the "safety net" of this site, I would never have contacted my first escort- too scary, too random, too many unanswered questions. Better to remain celebrate and closeted than to take a blind risk.

I read the reviews ( as opposed to the Forum) for a couple of years back in the Hoo Boy era. I even posted reviews. It was only after Hoo Boy's passing and Daddy's resurrection of the site (along with a number of improvements ), that I began to visit the Forum. I lurked for a long time. I started to participate, and then found myself on the receiving end of some vitriol from some of the resident " mean girls", many of whom have been banished or left. I have learned not to get involved in most of the drama that occasionally flares up. I learned whose tastes and temperament were in alignment with my own, and have come to read their reviews and posts to help guide my decisions regarding new contacts. I've learned to "consider the bias" of each Forum member as their natures have been revealed. I hired for 20+ years before finding this place. Since coming here I have had better experiences, with fewer disasters than in the long distant past.

maybe they're just concerned about too much exposure, there has been some talk about escorts who ask clients NOT to post good reviews about them. I don't know if that's their reason, have you ever asked them?

Most other clients I know don't want to go through the time consuming task of all the research. Many recommendations on escorts is shared between friends who know each other hire and value that info more then reviews and forum info. One escort I found on CL didn't want anything about him said on this forum or in the reviews because he does it part time and wants to fly under the radar.

I stumbled across it when I realized that there were actually escorts who practiced S&M as a guy who did so had a personal website that linked to his reviews. Suddenly I became interested in finding a mentor type escort who would be able to expand my horizons. I really did not think much about the forum itself and only lurked intermittently. I then had my first really bad experience in the sense that I was scamed. That occurred about five years into my hiring. Then one day when lurking I noticed a thread about how this guy scamed others and in the same manner that I was scamed.

 

That's when I realized the true value of this place. Perhaps if I had paid attention I could have avoided my bad experience. In any event I joined on the spot and contributed to the discussion. In fact one the guys who posted in that thread (but has retired from posting here) is a good friend to this very day. Fortunately he had never hired the escort in question, but had heard about his modus operandi and wanted to alert others.

 

As for escorts and the Forum, some don't even realize that the Forum side exists. When I mentioned it to one guy he was pleasantly surprised that by listing his travel schedule he would be able to get some free publicity. Others who have posted here ubiquitously in the past have learned a lesson that sometimes it pays to maintain a lower profile as one can easily step on toes. Others go on a marketing rampage and then disappear after their goals are achieved. Still others manage to maintain a healthy balance between over and under exposure.

Let's continue on this "blooming vein". Back in the late 1990s, I found a forum on the website of ATKOL --a NJ based gay porn video rental--, where people discussed sex with escorts.
