I was a tad bored, and I was cruising one of the adult "tube" sites, and I stumbled across a Bound Gods video with Christian Wilde & Osiris Blade in a bondage scene. I watched it, but I had to stop about halfway because I became creeped out by the image of a black man getting flogged by a white man. In light of the whole Black Lives Matter situation, am I wrong to think a video like this is in poor taste...even if it is just fantasy porn? Seeing a muscular black man being tied spread eagle while a skinny little white boy is railing his ass is a bit of a cringe factor for me....besides the whole flogging & spitting & CBT.....

Pardon my intervention as a non-US passport holder, but that sort of scene is problematic because the #BlackLivesMatter campaign puts an overlay on the scene regardless of what its initial context was. Porn scenes seem to cross all sorts of boundaries that apply anywhere else, and even if the things they depict are consensual, they can allude to taboo subjects. (Obviously the actual scene was consensual, what it was depicting not necessarily so.) A white man whipping a black man doesn't have to be racist (just as a sub isn't necessarily the weaker partner in a BDSM interaction) but viewed in the US it does carry overtones of slavery and all the baggage that carries, and as you said sits badly with #BlackLivesMatter. That makes for reasonably held discomfort for Americans watching such a video. I would probably have watched it and not paid attention to the race of the two protagonists but such is the centrality of race to so much of life in the US that it would be almost impossible for you to ignore it. (As an aside, if it were obviously an indigenous Australian and a white man I suspect I would have been repulsed by it.)

I do not think you are wrong for feeling creeped out by this video. It does conjure up images of slavery, repression, and an implied superiority of white people over black people and I would feel the same way you do.

I have the same reaction whenever I see any kind of domination scene with a white person dominated a black person. It's been that way for me long before Black Lives Matter. The same black guy can be dominating the white guy and it doesn't bother me. I don't think it's about me trying to be PC. It's just that, well... I don't even know. Maybe it seems to be too much of a reflection of past US history and even current society.

I've lived in the South all my life. BDSM is a niche which appeals to some people. I myself have participated in some of these activities (but definitely not to this extent) as the sub and have enjoyed it. It all has to do with the partner(s) you are playing with. I have known a couple of my friends who are subs and happen to be black that would have enjoyed this scene and probably have. Reviewing a short clip of the scene K referenced, I had no problem with it because both men are hot and that is what I was concentrating on instead of their skin color. I don't think about skin color just the hotness of the players, if I'm attracted to the participants, and if the scene arouses me.

Not necessarily. I am kinky (not a revelation to long-time readers) and I would find this scenario a turnoff. Even if it's not explicitly racialized by the use of racial slurs, it's implicitly racialized by history.

Bondage and rape fantasy are both implied violence so they can both be inherently distasteful. That said, I don't discount consenting adults acting them out. That doesn't mean that even those adults would find porn depictions of what they do acceptable.

No, that is not what it means. The two topics at hand in the conversation were "white guy beating black guy" and "black guy beating white guy." I find both profoundly disturbing for the reasons I mentioned.

 

That said, BDSM is not my favorite and not something I seek out, watch, or participate in nor is it something I consider to be inappropriate or disturbing. I do, however, find the above-mentioned scenes as well as those implying involvement by minors, inclusion of blood and killing, and presence of feces among the scenes I find disturbing.

I happened to have watched the vid in question; it's a recent shoot and as a smaller retirement present

I bought a year's subscription to Bound Gods.

 

The dialog didn't have any racial references that I could detect. The sub had been a Marine and

the banter had more to do about proving to himself and the top how strong he was and how much

he could take. The sub seemed quite eager to explore that part of his psyche.

 

Not everybody would agree that the top in question (Christian Wilde) is scrawny; he just wasn't as massively

built as the sub.

(a) As long as there is no reference to the race of either party and Bound Gods is not marketing it with race, then the company should be able to match up two hot guys in any scene and roles the guys are willing perform in.

(b) As a viewer, it is perfectly acceptable to find the scene distasteful, even if that was not the intent of Bound Gods. But from reading this thread, it does not sound like this was filmed as a gay porn parody of Roots. If we want our communities to be blind to race, then we need to be accepting of interracial scenes that we would accept guys of the same race in. Hot sex is hot sex.

I can totes understand how sm and bd isn't everyones cup of tea. There are some acts that I am not comfortable with and others, with the right person and situation I would totally do with pleasure. As for the white guy flogging the black guy I wouldn'tbat an eye. I would see it as two guys engaging in a consenting sexual act. And if the black guy got off on being verbally abused and called names not used in polite/pc society, who cares? It's hard for me to judge people for what turns them on. Take the Stalag novels, published in Israel in the early 1960s, right after the Eichmann trial.
