I really miss that site and I feel sure that many do. It's like the Feds don't have anything to do but screw with us.

Every experience that I've had with the FBI and Federal prosecutors has been most unpleasant. If you are ever contacted by either of those agencies I strongly advise that you say nothing without having a knowledgeable attorney present. Preferably one who was previously a US attorney. Remember, it is legal for them to lie to you. But, if you are accused by them of lying to them then you can be charged with a crime.

I think that's why they read you the Miranda warning that talks about the right to remain silent, have an attorney, and anything you say can and will be used in a court.

http://www.ourgtn.org/public/style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif Kjun why did you have to deal with the Feds? Did you need a security clearance or something?

Things to say to the police:

  1. Am I under arrest or being detained? (Any other Answe than "yes," leave.)
  2. I do not consent to ANY searches.
  3. I wish to exercise my right to remain silent.
  4. I want to speak to an attorney

If the police initiate contact with you, follow this process. There's nothing keeping you there if they are not detaining you, so leave if you can. There's nothing you can say that will improve the situation if they are detaining you.

I agree with all of the above - who has actually been stopped, responded in this fashion and then been allowed to go on about their business unmolested?

I may be painting with overly-broad brush strokes here but my guess would be that many encounters would take a negative turn and the officer would find a reason to formally detain someone responding as described above.

I feel very sorry for the owners of rent boys as well as all of the guys who had ads there, but since rentboy is "no more," I've moved onward to http://www.rentmen.com, www.men4rent.com, and reluctantly, but cautiously to www.backpage.com. With the latter I had a hot session with a guy who apparently just needed a certain amount of money for his schooling. His ad has not appeared since, and unfortunately I discarded his phone number. But in conjunction with the initial thread, it's gone, so we all have to seek out positive and worthwhile alternatives.

I think forum readers missed your posts more than they missed rentboy. There was a time you came out here with such witty posts. Then, suddenly, you disappeared, or I did not see you.

It is good to see you have returned.

My encounters with the Feds came about when I held the job of Director of Litigation for the Department of Insurance. We were handling many cases of fraud committed by over 65 insurance companies in the state and this required dealing with those scum (here I am referring to the US Attorneys and FBI agents). We would hand them cases with all evidence and they could not understand the evidence so they would concoct their on version and often convict people who needed to be convicted but they were convicted for the wrong crime. The Feds simply fudged the evidence and got co-conspirators to cop to lesser crimes if they said what the Feds wanted them to say. In my case they wanted me to testify that my boss had committed crimes which he had not. After I saw where this was all going, I just hired a good criminal defense lawyer and refused to speak to them. The intimidation tactics they use will make anyone have concern. Being dragged before a Federal Grand Jury is a bad experience at best and most unnerving even if you know you are innocent. If they file charges against you, even if you are cleared of all allegations, you will be financially devastated by defense costs. Thankfully, my lawyer was very good and I was never charged. I got by with a mere $12,ooo legal bill.

It is important when dealing with the Feds to ask them: Am I a witness, a subject or a target. By law they must tell you which category you fall into. Regardless of the answer, I would advise that you never speak to them without your lawyer present. Remember: They are out to get you and they do not play fair. I know that this must sound a bit paranoid but unless you are subjected to it you really can't understand the power of the Federal prosecutors and the FBI.

Everything you wrote is true, but it's an ugly business and criminals don't go down easy. If you're innocent stand your ground. And if you're brought before a Grand Jury you are not compelled to incriminate yourself, unless you are granted immunity. Most people don't want to get involved (unless something happens to them) and it's the criminals that benefit and run amok because of that.

But I still have the naive belief that the supposed good guys ought to play fair. Example-I've seen newspaper descriptions of a criminal prosecution of two alleged criminals-each having a separate trial for the same crime. Often during separate trials, the prosecutors will tell the individual juries that each defendant was the sole perpetrator of the crime. Now that doesn't seem kosher to me. If their cases aren't strong enough to say who they think really did what in the crime, they shouldn't be allowed to claim that in their court presentations.

I have never used www.backpage.com but when I clicked onto that website it listed only ads for the United Kingdom. I am in NYC and the East Coast generally--How do I access Backpage ads for those USA cities?

Here is an example for NYC: http://newyork.backpage.com/MaleEscorts/

In the USA, Backpage is organized by city. So google 'Backpage' 'name of city' 'male escorts'. The 'male escort' section can be found under the 'adult' services. Good luck, and buyer beware ...

Well, since we are reminiscing, I have fond memories of meetlocalmen. That was a goldmine of hot encounters back in the good ole days. Oh, and any of yall remember malescort4u?

I think I at least looked at those. But what about studfiles.com, americanmaleescorts.com, and one of the first sites I ever looked at escorts4u.com-might have been escorts4you.com. I used to look at that one for hours at a time. It was long before I ever hired-about 7 years. At that point I didn't think I'd ever hire.

There should be an option. For me on my phone if it's already showing a location it's in the upper left corner. But try putting New York City Backpage in your browser. That might open up the right page for you there.

Don't remember any of these sites. But I do remember www.gay.com I don't know what happened to gay.com but it seems it has entirely fallen out of favor. Couldn't compete with Grindr and adam4adam perhaps?

Yep....I "chatted" in there a little. It was a preview of what the apps would eventually become.....a waste of time. Although I do admit, one of my best ever hook-ups came from there. A very needy Army sergeant (muscled, studly, all-bottom) invited me to his place, and we rocked the house all night long. Had a follow-up visit about 2 weeks later, just as good, then he transferred out and that was that, but those were two hellaciously good nights.

I remember searching americanmaleescorts.

It was pretty good. Then they tried to turn it into a pay site for clients to see pictures. It didn't work. Then they went back to being mostly free. But it never recovered.

Wasn't meetlocalmen.com-a blue background with descriptions of the guys in a lighter blue/gray, and some spiffy graphics for the time?

Yep. It was ahead of its time. Good selection of men, and it seemed to work better than the "pay" sites of the era. It was fun to watch it slowly load on my old desktop powered by my state of the art dial-up modem. :)

Except that Miranda warnings are only required in certain circumstances. They can talk to you all they want without the warning.
