Christmas after Christmas as a working student, too poor to go home and dreaming

about heading to the grocery store and running into "that guy I've been chasing all year!"

"You mean you forgot cranberries too?".....

Alas it never really happened.....but I LOVED dreaming about it!

There is no better holiday album than Phil Spector's - A Christmas Gift For You, Darlene Love's songs are the highlights but the others are not slouching either.

On the opposite end of the spectrum Tori Amos' - Midwinter Graces. "Star of Wonder" being the most popular one, but my favorite being "A Silent Night With You". An ultimately happy but subdued holiday song.

Depends. I mostly like traditional carols. In approximate chronological order:

Riu riu chiu (have sung this), Boston Camerata

Gaudete, Boston Camerata or Steeleye Span

Lo, how a rose e'er blooming, Harry Simeone Chorale

What child is this?, Joan Baez

Oh Holy Night, Joan Baez

In the Bleak Midwinter

Carol of the Bells

Little Drummer Boy, Harry Simeone Chorale

The Christmas Song, Nat King Cole

That's without checking my Christmas CDs. :)

Steeleye Span for me. I love Maddy Prior's voice.

Gaudete, Gaudete, Christus est natus Ex Maria Virgine, Gaudete!

I really like a version of Minuit, Chrétiens: Cantique de Noël (aka Oh Holy Night) by Australian soprano Yvonne Kenny, with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. It's on a 1999 CD of carols.

Darlene Love used to be on Letterman every Christmas Season singing her rendition of "Santa Baby." It was outstanding!

I second vote for Darlene Love, chokes me up every time..

It was "Christmas, Baby Please Come Home" - never felt it was Christmastime until I saw it. This year I will have no Christmas. ;)

"Where Have All The Flowers Gone" Joan Baez in Hanoi during Nixon's Christmas bombing Dec. 1972.

I understand it is not a Christmas song, but I was in a small town in West Germany during the Christmas bombing and Baez's trip to North Vietnam. She took chances that most people would not have taken. Brave woman to me, in a very cold Christmas, almost alone w/ my boy friend near Frankfurt.

Joan Baez's album Noel is a classic.

I have been so lucky to see Joan Baez perform in person at least once in every decade since the 1960s. The first time was in Boston in 1963. She is a national treasure for her singing and here willingness to support so, so many important political causes.

On the day after John Kennedy's assassination, I spent a good part of the day listening to Baez's records.

Even though I lived in Massachuetts I was less upset that most people (perhaps because I was more used to sudden death). But, I still was very upset, Baez helped.
