The year was 1978

English punk music was decending on us in the U.S.

Jimmy Carter was president.

Cell phones were hard wired into our cars.

Disco music was the rage at all the clubs.

Dallas beat Denver in the Superbowl.

The Yankees defeated the Dodgers in the World Series.

Sony introduced the Walkman.

The first test tube baby is born.

Norman Rockwell dies.

The Eagles Hotel California receives a Grammy for best record of the year.

Annie Hall is awarded an Oscar for best picture of the year.

The boys were wearing their OPs.

.... and I was enjoying life.

One of the best years in my life,I was 18,running up to nearby SF at every chance I got,TONS of sex, great partying(people will excuse behavior in a very cute, smart, charming 18 yearold that they would never tollerate in an adult)lots of older guys squiering me about town, shows dinners clubs.

And to think in a few years it would all come crashing down on me.

It was the last year of a six-year stint in the military. I was dating a 20-year old, bisexual, coppermine worker who went crazy for blowjobs and who could cum four or five times in a row with only a fifteen minute break between each session. Sigh.

I packed up the family and moved to Boston. New town, new job and a new language... lol. Biggest frustration: few street signs (and those were hidden) and an abundance of discourteous drivers. I learned my way around by going in which ever direction the horns blew me. :o Second biggest frustration: finding food that had any taste to it.

P.S. You know you are in a foreign country when, on being seated, you are automatically served rolls with butter and salad at a Chinese restaurant. :o That quaint tradition seems to have fallen by the wayside since those early days.

My senior year in college was winding down.

A certain nuclear laborabory in California offered me a job.

Harvey Milk was elected to office then assassinated along with SF Mayor George Moscone.

AIDS hadn't reared its ugly head.

Events seemed to be propelling me toward San Francisco...

* I was in my 2nd year of college.

* I despised the music department for putting me in marching band

* The drummer in front of me in marching band had an IMPOSSIBLY fabulous butt. (Hey, some preferences form early.)

* The drummer in front of me in marching band turned out to be a fabulous fuck.

* His older brother gave great head and I don't think they ever knew about each other.

* Spent time in a boothstore.

* Spent more time in a boothstore.

* Older guy in a boothstore offered me 50 bucks for a blowjob.

* I accepted.

'78 was a good year. I finally figured out how to pay for college. :+

I was in the US Navy assigned to a nuclear submarine. In July we went through the Panama Canal while changing homeports from San Diego, CA to New London, CT.

I had just left my first lover behind in California but still managed to have fun at various liberty ports we visited. Three of us on the sub were gay. We didn't fool around with each other but we at least looked out after each other and usually hit the gay spots in the various cities we visited.

In some respects, I really miss my time in the Navy. But, that was before "don't ask - don't tell" and gay witch hunts were common. I was lucky enough to not have any problems. But, it was a significant concern that eventually made me decide NOT to make the Navy my career. :-(

1978...damn, I was in my second year of college and a twink and straight (so I thought) and didn't have the sense to know how to work being a twink. Oh what time will do to change you!

My girlfriend was the Miss Florida Jr. Miss she was awesome, still remember the first time I saw her. I was very well known around the region, I was a disc jockey for a commercial radio station about 30 miles from the college, seemed like everyone knew me and I sure knew alot of people. The apartment building I lived in was like a circus all the time, still friends with some of those people today. Sometimes I wish I could remember the name of that very hot blonde guy from North Carolina that lived in our building for about year. As I look back now, there are many hot guys, some of which I can't remember their name, that I wished I had kept up with.

I have seen posts here before of men yearning for missing a gay experience in their youth when they were straight; I too have thought about that, and wonder what if...

My oldest daughter graduated from high school! (What a thing to admit! :+ )

And I hadn't yet had my first M2M experience. ;( Not 'til eight years later! (I am trying to make up for that now }( )
