I was told that the super bowl would bring in a lot of clients. I am skeptical based on the lack of traction in the sports thread here, as well as the fact that I would imagine people would have trouble sneaking away to see me when traveling in packs to the super bowl. My home city is hosting the super bowl. Should I stay in town?

More generally, are there other events (the RNC, perhaps) that are good to travel to business-wise?

There was a lot of talk about the last Republican National Convention in Tampa attracting escorts, but so many ads appeared on craigslist's about men visiting during the dates of the convention and looking for NSA fun. I guess for some family values means getting it for free and not having to pay for it.

Can't comment on whether you would have a flood of clients, but something to consider is how much could you rent your house for over the weekend. Different scale, but during the Sydney Olympics people rented out their houses and received more than enough to pay for a vacation over the period.

Client here but I discussed this very subject with an escort friend awhile back.

My thinking is there could be definite advantages to being “convention savvy”

But I think the type of convention (or event) is important.

A major sports event, like the Superbowl, will certainly attract a large out of town audience that will be reflected in local hotel prices. But a problem with a Superbowl type of clientele is that “partygoers” are going to be skewed towards rowdy obnoxious types. So it would be important to vet carefully.

Following an event series, like the NASCAR circuit, might also have advantages. Large crowd attendance. Most of that crowd will be made up of “locals” (new business). However, the support staff for all the racers would stay pretty much the same during the season. That support staff could be a valuable source for repeat business.

If you like to travel I think it would be valuable to be aware of major conventions and events.

Major Sports Events

Auto Shows

Business Conventions

Music Events

Trade Shows

Most cities have a Better Business Bureau that can give you information on upcoming conferences and events. Consider modifying your ad to target the clientele you seek.

For Las Vegas look at: (there are others also)

Also a potential limiting factor is that attendees to major sporting events rarely travel alone, it is often a 'buddy' trip that limits the opportunities to get alone.

On the plus side, these events often attract a lot of support staff, including many of the corporate sponsors who are not "partygoers" and may be interested in having some fun while they are not working and may not have any real interest in the event itself.

You're goddamn right on that one. And that's the problem here. The problem isn't rentboy being shutdown. It's the state of mind we're living in. People want something for nothing. And when you have these microwaveable, popcorn hoes popping on the scene willing to do stuff for not even a commitment, dinner or a dollar; the value of gay sex goes way down. Some guys don't see it, may never see it...but it is what it is.

Now, as far as conventions/events go...I never really find those to bring more or less business. Then again, I'm more likely to cross paths with someone who is visiting on business, but not necessarily a big convention. Also, if you're traveling somewhere, events and conventions tend to drive up the cost of hotel rooms.

Case in point. Was in Salt Lake City and met a friend who was attending a chemical engineering job fair/conference. Although mostly younger college graduates, it was oil related and people from all over the country. Throughout the visit I didn't come across any clients who were attending. And the Hilton was $90 on Saturday, but $219 the Sunday the convention started.

I was going to add this as a joke but thinking about it, how about the International Beauty Show in Las Vegas.....or any beauty show/hair show that attracts salon owners, makeup artists, etc. The one in Las Vegas says it attracts over 22,000 people in the business . Long Beach, CA has a huge hair show.

How about Comic-Con?

I have met a number people in San Diego. They usually drove to me from other areas of California. I usually go a number of days early before the madness begins (to enjoy the area). However, during the Con days, I've only met with 3 working guys. Hotels are pre-booked way in advance. They are packed and super expensive. Any escort would have to brought in. I guess with priceline or hotwire they could find a vacated room. Maybe there is a chance to get a hotel really far away from the convention area.

Anyway, one of those working guys was not working. He came with me as a friend. There was no money exchanged and no hanky panky. We did sleep in the same bed, but absolutely no sex. :D Although I think he wanted to. We are going again next year, if possible.

Comiccon is distracting and time consuming. I can't say there is a boost in work for an escort. I'm no expert in the matter of course. :)

Oddly though, I think New York Comic Con would be easier to see people given the area it's in and it not being the utter madhouse (but in a good way) San Diego is. There is another working guy who wants to go to New York Comic Con with me, if I ever go.

Don't know if it's good for biz, but Atlanta's busiest weekend is Labor Day. The city floods with out-of-towners while alot of city dwellers flee. It's usually a confluence of numerous major events, among them Dragon-Con (a sci-fi/fantasy conference....50k+), baseball/college football games, etc. NASCAR previously held a race at Atlanta motor speedway on the same weekend. It was too much. They moved it.
