It was definitely a risk. I was really nervous about it. But I had a 3-1/2 day train trip. And I knew it would be really lonely without a companion. I had thought of some other companions to take. But I had never met them either. With Mark everything just fell into place. It made it easier logistically that he lived in Toronto which was where I was planning to leave from. After we had been together awhile, Mark admitted that after he had agreed to go, he was a bit nervous as it was going to be close quarters, and he didn't know me either. But I think he didn't find me too difficult of a traveling companion. We made sure to give each other a lot of space on the trip.

You asked the question. I actually live in NJ and have travelled many times to Philadelphia or NYC for an encounter. So while some need to import, others are lucky enough to have home grown. Life is unfair in that regard but in this regard you can change your availability.

It's very interesting. I've done it twice from Toronto to Vancouver. Both times in winter. The sleeping cars are refurbished 1950's stainless steel sleeping cars. They still have a chef on board as opposed to Amtrak. One evening we dined on pork loin in blueberry sauce. It's expensive though. I managed to find some special fares.
