Let's not pile on.

Who, among us, has never needed help? Who, among us, was a perfect gentleman at 21?

Agree. When I was 21 I had many things to figure out (still do!) and my self-sufficiency skill were, um, quite lacking. Instead of an easy fix, the OP got smothered with oldster wisdom, lol. . Usually youth is much coveted on this board, but in this case it was the cause for a 'Father Knows Best' gang-bang.

Let's don't be so hard on ourselves. LIGuy did offer an easy fix though it wasn't available online. He also commented that the retainers offered by the site are made by a different process and may be less durable than traditional retainers. But at $95, it may be worth replacing them more frequently as long as they work. In any case, I'm glad Ryan found a good solution.

Ryan, call a few dental laboratories in your area and ask if they do orthodontic appliances or can refer you to a lab that does. Some labs will make an easy appliance for a fraction that a doctor charges. Your tooth straightening is complete and a retainer just keeps them that way so it's a fairly simple process. I work in restorative and cosmetic dentistry on the lab end and I can tell you that the markup between what a lab charges the doctor and what the doctor charges the patient is incredible.

You really DON"T know me so don't act like I'm some Kim Kardashian/Paris Hilton spoiled rich-kid hybrid. I simply forgot to say thanks, alright? What that user said was actually REALLY helpful and a more logical solution that I simply didn't know about when I created that Gofundme, because I simply didn't know any other way.

I understand you point, FreshFluff. In his last post, RSully94 wrote that he forgot to say thank you and did acknowledge the help he received here. He also proved that his spelling and grammar are decent -- one of biggest critical comments here until now. So perhaps he did learn something.

RSully94 was called some names in this forum -- deadbeat, particularly sticks in my mind -- that were based on very little information. I would not blame any original poster for being upset about those particular responses.

I also want to point out, that, I also haven't acknowledged something key about me - I'm actually autistic. I have Aspergers, so high-functioning. So my take on life is different than everyone elses. I just feel like there is this stigma that Asperger kids can't really do much and struggle to be independent. And life after high school for an Aspie, whether they've become social or not, is a big thing to grasp onto. All these things that people do that don't have it may seem normal to them, but I pretty much see it as like another thing I'm learning to do to keep becoming more independent. I may live at home, but that doesn't mean I'm confined to that house. I don't need to go into big detail, but taking care of my dogs for 2 years also renewed my love for animals, and I could see myself being a petsitter for people (not a babysitter though, I'm very hot n cold with little kids). Bottom line, I just view all these daily things differently. May not seem like a big deal to most people, but I certainly am happy that I can cook for myself pretty much, know how to get to and from my college or my house or almost anywhere in my city, can do my own laundry, know how to pickup groceries quick enough and so forth.

Unless you want to talk to me in PM, I'm not gonna make a long essay about this. I already have a solution. I can't use it right now, but I will when I can. And for the record, they talk about molding an imprint of teeth, which my orthodontist also did. It's basically the same retainers, just for a much cheaper price

I think this'll all get worked out by Ryan.....my only concern is that his teeth will drift back a bit to pre-retainer days and the retainer won't be good anymore!......I remember not wearing my retainer for a few days and having a hard time putting it in at times......don't want to see Ryan lose all the work the braces did

yup, azdr is always looking on the practical side of things.....

Ryan deserves praise for not mentioning his situation until the end of this thread. My heart and great, good wishes goes out to him for his bravery and honesty. I hope he realizes his dream of being a pet sitter -- the pets and their owners will be lucky to have him.

Lol it's not a dream, but it's a job that I wouldn't mind doing if it helps me earn my own money.

I want to do stuff in the entertainment field long-term wise. I really like video-editing and stuff.

Ryan, that is certainly a goal to aspire to but maybe you could get there by finding some sort of entry level P.A. type assistant job and then working up the ladder to an editing job? I know nothing about the business though, so maybe that is a difficult field to find an entry level position in?

Good grammar is indeed the difference between "knowing your shit" and "knowing you're shit". :p

Regarding another topic: I'd say you are trying really hard to stay out of debt, my compliments!

Anton.

Thanks, but unfortunately some payments I have no control over. I pretty much realized too late that I needed to control my spending habit (on food). Then I tried to get myself back up and back on track, but this month things kept happening. I also didn't mention the fact that I've had to cover a couple of vet bills for one of my dogs. The summer is the time of year when his allergies act up and his ears have gotten really red. Unfortunately, learning to be independent means having to pay for when you screw up (i.e. $400 retainer replacement in January and the first vet bill). So I tried doing a more consistent job at attending my dog's allergies, only to find that I needed to take him to the vet again at my Mom's request, which I had to do today and that cost $145. That's basically my college payment for this semester, but my Mom said she would pay me back.

The retainer getting destroyed again was my breaking point tbh. All it did was bring out all this worry, insecurities and emotional frustration.

"Because getting a minimum wage job to cover a $600 replacement is TOTALLY going to happen asap."

This is the statement of a spoiled brat with an enormous unjustified sense of entitlement.

Grow up, put on your big boy pants, and get a job.

Getting a job might not be as easy as you think it is. Unemployment is high in many parts of the country - too many jobs have gone overseas.

And he was born, so he's entitled to certain rights, medical and dental care being two of them.

But NOW its seems like it's become some panacea for ANYONE who can't pay for ANTHING, from porn stars who need a new apartment or yes, even just a vacation, to the latest porn director in an insanely expensive private re-hab who can't afford to stay any longer. (there ARE re-habs without Egyptian cotton sheets and cappucino machines I'm pretty sure) .

Guess I was right

If you were in my neck of the woods, you would have a pretty good job walking and sitting for my 2 dogs. I'd hire you right away. My present walker/sitter is making oodles from me alone because my dogs are now old, need to be walked several times a day while i am at work, and if the occasion arises and I REALLY need to go out of town, she stays with them even tho it's getting very difficult now because of their age and infirmities.

Put on your walking shoes, take a deep breath and find some ways to advertise yourself, especially those things which will set you apart from other walker/sitters, go on social media sites, etc. Plug away!

I wish you the best of luck!

Excellent idea from funguy. I will confess, I know your area frighteningly well RSully . They were my old stomping grounds. Valencia, Canyon Country, and Stevenson Ranch. I owned homes over time in all those areas and sold real estate for years in the greater Santa Clarita and Aqua Dulce areas. My point is that most of those homeowners make long commutes into the San Fernando Valley and beyond into "The West Side" and the Los Angeles area at large. They are typically away from their homes from 5-6 a.m. in the morning and don't return till after dark because of the distance and horrendous traffic. Taking care of animals and dog walking would be a natural for those residents who are typically away from home because of their commute. When I lived in Stevenson Ranch, I would routinely check in on friends dogs while they were at work, and even house sit occasionally while they were away on business, which is something that you could do also...

Just a thought that came into my head when I saw the post from Funguy. Advertising would be easy, and the average household income in Stevenson ranch is probably somewhere north of six figures now...

.....sadly I was loooong gone by the time Mr. Parrish arrived. :(

In fact, somewhere around here buried deep in a drawer are pictures of me at my best friends wedding taken in front of that very fountain. I was younger, cuter, with a full head of hair then, and life, well life, was just a wee bit better....:D
