Ok, so I really don't understand how all this works... so I thought I would turn to the well traveled and wise readers of this forum. I read today that the "Canadian dollar drops to lowest level since 2004". So how does this work in practical terms? How can I phrase this question.... Are Canadian escorts on "sale" for 25%+ off to American tourists?

Thanks.

I think you have it in reverse. If the escort asked for U.S. Dollars, he'd probably want the the fee as listed in the digits the same way a lot of Canadian stores will let you pay with a U.S. Dollar for something that costs a Loonie without giving you any discount and giving you back Canadian change. I'd prefer paying him with actual Canadian Dollars that I've already gotten my discount on.

jeez... let me ask this a different way.

I, customer, drive across the border to Canada to see this really hot Canadian escort (cause Canadians are hot!). His rate is $200 CDN per his ad. I take my $155 is US dollars to the Bank of Montreal and exchange them for $202.10 in Canadian dollars.

End of story, everyone has a great time. Escort gets his full rate and is happy. I spent $155 for an hour with a hot stud and paid his full rate and I am happy too. No one did anything wrong. Nobody got short changed. Everyone wins.

Right??

sounds right to me...make sure his rate is in CDN....and give him a nice tip.....and don't let him know you're American!!

I think you mean United States Citizen. Both Canadians and Mexicans are (North) Americans too. ;)

To be serious for a second-I thought I did read that some Canadians got offended when 'we' Americans spoke like they weren't also Americans.

Years ago I took a trip on Via Rail's Canadian. I paid for the trip through their website. Since my credit card was using American dollars, and the Canadian dollar was less than ours at the time (a situation reversed only a few years later), it was like I received a 40 dollar discount on the price of the trip. I hired a Canadian 'friend' to go along. I can't remember if he charged me in U.S. or Canadian dollars. He was a great trip companion!!

You're absolutely right, Down_to_business, it's a great idea. Only one flaw is the part I quoted -- the cost of traveling there. So you should see a LOT of escorts while you're up there to make it worth the travel cost.

That's correct. Everyone wins!

What I wouldn't recommend you to try and what I personally don't accept is when an American clients says "I checked online the value of my money so I am paying you 155 American Dollars". They tend to forget that however you exchange that currency you will lose money and end up having a lot less than your fee.

Yes, your money is quite hot right now.... come spend it in good ole Canada! =)

Living right across the river from Canada and spending a lot of time in Windsor, I occasionally get the customs guy who gets snarky when I answer the question of 'Citizenship?' with American, and asks 'North or South?' North and South America are geographical entities, not political. I'm a citizen of the United States of America, which I believe is the only country with 'America' in its name. Mexico is actually 'The United States of Mexico', so 'United States' is ambiguous.

Of course, I'm not actually going to say this to the border guy unless I'm in the mood for a full body cavity search.

No less than the Oxford Dictionaries (not the OED, but still that Oxford) says:

American

adjective

1 Of, relating to, or characteristic of the United States or its inhabitants:

the election of a new American president

1.1 Relating to or denoting the continents of America:

the American continent south of the tropic of Cancer

noun

1 A native or citizen of the United States.

1.1 A native or inhabitant of any of the countries of North, South, or Central America.

2 The English language as it is used in the United States; American English.

C'mon guys, you are a smarter than arguing with a dictionary. Language is not autonomous from politics. It is a fact that most people in the rest of the Americas feel offended by the appropriation of 3 subcontinents by the citizens of one single country. In Spanish, we do not use "americanos" as frequently as "estadounidenses". On the other hand, it is also true that U.S. culture is mainstream in the globalization process, and this is changing, specially in the smaller countries of Central America, where Spanglish is gaining prevalence.

All I know is that my Quebecois friends in Montreal say "American" when they unambiguously mean US citizens/residents. I suspect this is true elsewhere in Canada; for example, Juan V wrote:

...What I wouldn't recommend you to try and what I personally don't accept is when an American clients says "I checked online the value of my money so I am paying you 155 American Dollars". ...

hey, you've gotten off topic here from the favorable exchange rate as the Canadian dollar is devalued vis a vis the US one. Too bad there's no opportunity to by "futures" for later use. Why, there could even be opportunities for a stock exchange.

It's definitely nice to spend time in Canada when the US dollar is strong against the loonie. A lap dance (one song) at The Campus or Stock Bar in Montreal cost $20 US back in 2011 when the US and CDN dollars were about equal. But with the current exchange rate, it's now less than $16 US. At one point back in 2002 (or was it 2001?) it was only $12 US. Escort rates are great. In Montreal you will have no problem finding an escort for $250 CDN --or less. I find it difficult for find a good escort in NYC for less than $300 US (not impossible but difficult). Convert $250 CDN to US at the current exchange rate, and you’re paying $193 for a really great guy (but I admittedly have a "thing" for Canadians). The only problem with the favorable rates, is that I find myself using it as an excuse to spend -- sometimes maybe too much -- depending on the guy.

Keep in mind as well that the exchange rates are constantly fluctuating. So while it won't likely be a drastic change overnight, be thoughtful enough to round up the exchange rate a little. For example, if the escort's rate is $200 CDN and the exchange rate right now would equal$155 USD, by the time the escort converts it back to Canadian dollars it might only equal $198 CDN. You are still getting a favorable discount.

excellent reminder, Sam, but I presume the transaction will be entirely in CDN currency.....at least I HOPE the client doesn't use US $ in Canada for this activity!.....

If he's really cute....

it'd be a crapshoot. The guy in the booth just sends you over to the inspections building, and someone else does the inspection. I've never had the full-body search, but I have been pulled over and had my car searched. One guy questioned me because my tire iron was sitting on the floor under the back seat, as if I were intending to use it as a weapon.

you have it correct. I used to go to Toronto several times a year in the mid 90s to early 2000s when their dollar was worth about US$0.67. Flights were cheap (about $150 round trip from DC). And yes, everything was basically "on sale". I loved it. Spent a lot of time and money at Remington's which was in its heyday at the time. So many hot boys, for so little money. And escort rates were lower in general then so it was really cheap if I wanted to see some one outside the club. The city wasn't quite as nice and shiny in those days, the condo building boom was just starting. Many is the time I contemplated buying one of those condos. But eventually things evened out and the currencies were at almost parity. Flights got way more expensive. And I discovered Southeast Asia. So my time in Canada dwindled.
