I'm making a playlist for an upcoming session. My guy likes slow, depressing songs.

Any suggestions?

I could use any vocals from the last 100 years. Anything from Cry Me A River (by Julie London or Ella Fitzgerlad or both) to Run (by Nicole Scheringzer) or anything in between.

I usually go for uptempo depressing songs, so I don't have many ideas off the top of my head.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Peggy Lee was a master at singing slow, depressing songs. The album "If You Go" by Peggy Lee comes to mind immediately. As much as I like Ella and Julie London, Lee seems to go deeper emotionally (i.e. her song, "Is That All There is?" set the tone for the last season of "Mad Men.")

I saw Ella Fitzgerald at the Bowl some years back, and the banner out front simply said "ELLA"...My friend looked at me and said, "You know you've made it when they only have to use your first name" ....that always made me smile.

"The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys". Can't remember the band. That was playing on a trip up north after a long night of partying & no sleep, and I had to turn it off - it was putting me to sleep.

Love it, especially the ones above. Also:

Leaves that are Green by Simon and Garfunkel

And........Alone by Heart. You can see it as depressing or as a description of that period of uncertainty and insecurity that precedes any good relationship.

Wow--lots of great suggestions! Keep 'em coming!

It looks like I will be listening to a lot of happy songs on the next few days. The original 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' is a real happy one, too.

And a humorous note: when I typed "Keep 'em coming" above, autocorrect kept changing the 'em' to 'me'--how nice that Autocorrect knows the ultimate goal here. :D
