"The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys". Can't remember the band. That was playing on a trip up north after a long night of partying & no sleep, and I had to turn it off - it was putting me to sleep.

I think that is by Traffic.

I'm not sure about slow but anything by Justin Bieber makes me sad.

"Blue Dress" by Depeche Mode

"If Loving You Is Wrong, I Don't Want to Be Right" by Luther Ingram (I think)

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" by Roberta Flack

"Why" by Annie Lennox

"Waiting in Vain" by Annie Lennox (original by Bob Marley, I think)

"She's Gone" by Hall and Oates

"One Night Only" from Dreamgirls by Jennifer Hudson (NOT the disco version...that one's sad for other reasons...)

"New Favorite" by Alison Kraus and Union Station

"Goin' Back" by Dusty Springfield

"And So It Goes" by Billy Joel

"One Lonely Night" by REO Speedwagon

"Hat Full of Stars" by Cyndi Lauper

I think I'll stop now. :)

There's the original version of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails/Trent Reznor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66GHz-H4k6M

And a live version featuring David Bowie that I like even better than the studio version:

Though I think Johnny Cash took this song and made it his own. Reznor has admitted as much.

I suspect you could find more songs like this in NIN's repertoire, much of which is notoriously depressing.

"Ride" by Lana del Rey (or Eli Lieb's cover)

"Wrecking Ball" by Eli Lieb (NOT the original by Miley Cyrus)

"Undone" by Eli Lieb

"Latch" by Sam Smith (the acoustic version)

"Any Other World" by Mika

"Erase" by Mika

"Mad World" by Adam Lambert OR the version from the movie Donnie Darko (I think)

"Turning Tables" by Adele

OK. I think I'm really done now. :)

ANY song by Timi Yuro. Judging by her songs that girl was never treated right by any man in her life---ever. She makes being hurt and lonely into a religion.

"Get Here" always seemed hopeful to me. Yeah, she's not happy that he's not there, but I always felt like she knew he WOULD indeed arrive. I've never thought of it as a depressing song. Or "Unchained Melody." They're both about longing, but they don't depress me.

Yeah, I know...the weirdo speaks tonight... ;)

How about "It's too late" by Carole King... about her break up with Gerry.
