Rentboy's New Look

Rentboy has a new look which I just noticed, but must be new within the last week. The layout and graphics have changed entirely, but there are still "More pictures" which I like, and links to websites. They've added a "stats" button, that has various information like race, sexual preference, etc. But many of the guys have not filled this out seriously, so some have put down the wrong race, or ridiculous heights and weights, like 3'. Most have avoided filling in sexual preference, and the ones that did fill it in, seem to tak it to mean top/versatile/bottom as opposed to gay/bi/straight.

Too bad the guys haven't filled in "stats" more seriously, because it could be useful.

I'd be interested what others think of the new format.

Just my opinion, but I really like the new Rentboy look. I find it much faster than the old site, I love the stats sheet, plus it is offering it's own review section ala this site. I am really impressed with the site's improvements, but remember it is in a BETA test mode, as stated up front. Sorry if you don't understand the term BETA test, but I don't have the patience to explain the term - ask deej what it means.

I also saw it for the first time today.

 

It's faster, cleaner, slicker, yet retains the best of the old format. I think it's a big improvement.

For those who don't know....

 

"Beta" refers to a release of software that is not quite ready for commercial use. It should have all of the features of the final product, but it may still have some bugs which have not been fixed.

The new format is much better, especially the speed. However, for some time now the content on rentboy has left a lot to be desired. I used to be able to find someone of interest there with great predictability, but over the last year or so I have found the offerings to be older, and there appear to be more tops or guys who state no preference or inclination. All in all, I think rentboy will need more than just a new look to revive its fortunes, at least as far as this educated consumer is concerned.

wish they would bring up the new listing in a separate section or list them first; i hate a long listing like new york where you have to go through 18 or so pages. also, they should request/require the escorts to up date their pictures; some of those pictures go back to the first bush presidency (a general problem everywhere, including print media).

It seems OK, and the advanced search feature is pretty cool, though it'd be better if it could work for all locations.

 

One thing I hate though, it doesn't seem possible to get a direct link to an escort's ad...!

I find the new Rentboy site a slight improvement on the old but not a quantum leap in terms of ease of use and flexibility. I agree with the comment on New York escorts that has not been addressed, namely that you have to scroll through many pages without being able to jump around. Also the stats page is limited (no dick size).

 

I have been planning a trip to Europe and came across an escort site based in Germany which is VASTLY superior to Rentboy's. IMO the Germans build escort sites like they build cars! Once you've driven one, all the rest seem like junk. The site's called Escupido.com and you can register for free and this permits you to see all the naughty pics of the boys. Otherwise you can still access most of the info.

 

BTW, they do have listings of escorts worldwide, including the USA, but these are not as extensive as the German listings. For the US listings you get much more info on each escort than you do in the typical Rentboy listing. I think the reason that this is so is that the escorts seem to be required to put in a lot more basic data in order to have a profile. They also submit some pretty hot pics. Check it out!

I like the new look as well. As far as the "Stats" section not being correct, I was chatting with an escort friend who said that what he puts in, doesn't show up properly. Perhaps it's the beta software thing? But it is a nice look.

The owner of Rentboy is a really classy guy and so are the other folks there that run it, like John.

 

For the longest time, we were in discussions about merging; I would run their review site, but when I was asked "when an escort pays $250 a month for advertising and gets a bad review", they did not like my answer, which was, it'll go up but he has the final say.

 

We are still friends and I wish them all the luck in the world with their new look, which I think is great.

 

And their parties rock!
