My problem is "likely". Likely in comparison to what and whom? Are you proceeding from the thesis that gay men are more open to the idea of hiring escorts, more sexually motivated (than whom - straight men? everyone?), more likely to need to hire escorts due to difficulties finding partners they're attracted to or because they've decided to use their buying power to spend time with a porn star or physical ideal?

 

This also leaves other men who have sex with men out of the discussion unless "gay" now means "men who have sex with men irrespective of how they identify." That's not how I understand the word, and I don't think that's how it's commonly used.

It's hard to know since there's no good count on the number of gay men or the number of gay/bi men engaging in P4P. We only see the higher end escorts here, not the guys getting $50 for a blow job.

 

Based on what escorts here have said, I'm guessing that much of the gay P4P market is made up of closeted guys. Maybe the escorts can comment.

Gay but in an ostensibly exclusive relationship with a woman, so closeted about orientation and hiring? Bi but in an ostensibly exclusive relationship where he's closeted about hiring and possibly also about being bi? Straight but curious? Totally confused? At this point, I am.

From the horrified reaction of most in my circle, I would say not "most." In fact, I don't hire very much, mostly because it's always such a hassle.

 

Erotic massages are way easier to set up and half the cost. You make the appointment, show up, get a great massage and a hand job and pay the man.

 

I'm also fortunate to be attracted to men my own age, so hiring escorts is mostly a recreation for me.
