Everyone, there is a poll on MSNBC regarding gay marriage. PLEASE take a moment to vote and spread the word, encouraging other like minded folk to do the same. Our side is not doing well in this poll. We all got out and voted in the American Family Institute's poll.

Let's do the same here, and make sure our voices are heard loudly.

Here's the link for voting:

Spread the word and be sure to vote!

Okay, don't take this the wrong way, but why? Why is this urgent and why does the result of this poll matter in the greater scheme of things? If we do well in this poll, what does that mean?

Clearly there is nothing scientific about the poll. It will reflect whoever can be bothered enough to go to the site and respond. I read about a study that showed how dramatically NON-representative a sample these kinds of things get.

I'm far more concerned about getting actual scientifically selected Americans to say they support gay marriage. Yeah, I know I don't have any way to DIRECTLY do this. So instead I'm gonna tell any of the straight people that I can get to listen why it's a good idea. Perhaps if enough of us do this we can REALLY change things.

I think we should all be cautious here, the whole issue of Gay Marriage is a WMD (weapon of mass distraction) set out by the right wing. Same as Janet Jacksons right tit - Hell there already Congressional hearings on the SuperBowl boob-tube fiasco, with in 10 days of the event!

Anything to keep us distracted from the real issues.

Newsweek has posted an editor's note saying that they believe the poll is being intentionally manipulated by a conservative interest group called FreeRepublic.com so the results of this poll may not have much weight even in their own view. Apparently the White House asked FreeRepublic to alert its membership to participate in the poll; hence, Laura Bush's popularity and all that.

Of course, now we're trying to do the same here, but most of us probably know better than to worry about the results of voluntary online polls.

If there is a reason to care, though, it's because people hear results of these kinds of things as news items, and it creates a perception of what others might be thinking. Gosh, if all those other people think such and such a way, then maybe....

At least that's what the White House and far-right are after.

Hmmm, with that, is this going to get kicked into the political forum? }(

Sorry for the delay in replying here. My Internet connection at home has been out for a couple days.

The only urgency is to get our side to vote before the poll closes. As to the why question, all these online polls are subject to manipulation. After "their" poll got manipulated by our side, this one seemed to be going in the wrong direction quite steeply. A lot of people in the activist community felt it important to get a bigger response on our side.

This seemed quite logical to me.

These polls aren't scientific, but they do give an idea of what issues are getting people all hot and bothered! And those are the kinds of people who are likeliest to get out and vote in a general election. So there's some meaning to them, even if they're not truly accurate.
