First let me say that this opinion is coming from a client not an escort.

You could define the terms that way jemiami1, however, I think in reality it's not that cut and dried. I would guess that you will find as many answers as people who post to your thread. For me an escort is a guy I find on a site like this or sites like rentboy, men4rent or rentmen. Here the escort pays to run an ad and thus has something invested. Hustlers, again by my definition, would be guys you pick up on the street or in a bar. I think of escorts as classier that hustlers but again that is just my opinion. I have met guys from the above sites I would consider hustlers and I have met street and bar guys I would consider escorts. Very, very grey!!!!!!

EEK! Just when I thought it was safe to get back in the pool, here we go with the word thing again.

Here's my personal hierarchy of words that describe me, in order of words that flatter me:

1. Whore (spoiler alert ... I'm in the minority on this one)

2. Courtesan

3. Escort

4. Prostitute

5. Gold digger

6. Hustler

7. Hooker

8. Trash

Actually, I've been doing this for 15 years, and I've heard them all, and I like them all, especially when they're used playfully.

To stop joking and get serious, probably the best word to think of is this: human being. If you are new to hiring, keep in mind that whatever word you use to describe the job, you are hiring a person. You want to bring your best rules for how you treat people to the bedroom, and expect him to do the same.

Geeezzz! Haven’t you read the manual? Okay... once again, here’s the formula for classifying as escort versus hustler:

Assign a 1 to 10 score to each of the following variables (1 is the lowest or worst possible. 10 is the highest or best).

a = Cost

b = Scope of services

c = Quality

d = Professionalism

e = Emotional stability

f = Cost of living index at hiring location

g = Cleanliness of underwear

If a + (b x 4) + (c x 12) + (d x 10) + (e x 3) + (f x 5) + (g x 75) greater than 978, then he’s an escort. Otherwise he’s a hustler.

Funny, shows you how times change. I learned that formula in Sexual Finishing School. But I just checked my text book, and what I learned is this: after you got the result, as you detailed, you take the length of the escort's cock, multiply by width, and divide. I got 1012 / (7 x 5) = 29. They told me that made me poor white trash.

I think they changed it because when it comes to measuring their cocks, whores just ain't good at math. Now they just give you a chart to figure out whether or not you're a good fit.

How's that article for Huffington Post coming? Or is this one for your dissertation?

Chris Eisenhower - you outed me - Yes I'm doing my dissertation on the "quantitive outcome of sexual branding based on external perceptions" The 978 outcome equation is brilliant but there must be included a margin of error of +/- 1% to decrease this "gray area" the penis size calculator is then included to come to an accurate outcome... Chris Eisenhower my findings will be published here (it's only 1000 pages) by years end. Please have a calculator & dictionary ready for some things will be beyond your brains capability LMAO

I'm a newbie "client" and keep hearing the terms "escort" and "hustler" interchanged. My perception is that an "escort" is a professional while a "hustler" is con-artist thug. I wonder your thoughts on this.

The words have so many shades of meaning, depending on the speaker and the listener, that it's useless to try and sort it out. "Hustler" is kind of a dated term that you hardly ever hear anymore and carries a whiff of sleaze. It makes me think of the Tenderloin ca. 1975. "Escort" seems to be the preferred term, and it seems just right. "Courtesan" is hopelessly pompous; call-boy is excessively cute.

Thinking back on 30 odd years of hiring, factors a (cost) and g (cleanliness of underwear) are what come most quickly to mind.

And I echo Kessler's admonition that, escort, whore or hustler, please keep in mind he's not just a hole or a mouth or a dick. The fun parts come along with a real live person with all the complications, good and bad, that that entails.

I recall back in the '80s I picked up a guy not too far from Hollywood & Vine. He was kind of rough looking but it was really late, so it was nothing ventured, nothing gained time for me.

Back in my room he took off his shoes and his socks were completely filthy and ragged, toes out, holes where the heels should be. His feet were kind of roughed up too where his shoes had been rubbing against the skin. Something made me go rummage through my suitcase and pull out a pair of white socks & hand them to him.

The point is that one small thing, the dirty feet and socks, made him a real person to me, a person with a real life of his own, not just some hustler I was paying for sex.

Somehow that stuck with me; after that I just couldn't see pickups the same way.

The only time I use the term hustler is when I feel like I've been conned by someone. I guess I go by this definition of the word hustler: "Slang. a person who employs fraudulent or unscrupulous methods to obtain money; swindler." I would never use the term hustler to describe someone who was honest with me, even if I didn't end up coming away with a positive feeling about the session.

My findings:

"Escort" — 78.084%

"Hooker" — 20.946%

"Whore" — 0.9340%

"Wh*re" — 0.04%

"Rentboy" — 0.001818%

"Amazing Find" — 0.000524%

"My Precioussss" — 0.00018%

"Gentlemen" — 0.000114%

"Hustler" — 0.000055%

"Masseur" (cough) — 0.000042%

"High Class Companion Courtesan" — 0.00003%

Amazing enough, this is the same chemical composition as air.

Other unusual terms such as "The Liar Who Stole My Money," "Sweet Baby" and "Meth-Head" accounted for < 0.0000000002% and have not been included.

Personally, I wouldn't think too much about the terminology. Just focus on hiring a guy with whom you will have a great time and simply call him by his name. Maintains everyone's dignity.

They're pretty much the same thing... but hustlers is a term used for guys who work on the streets and don't make that much money.

WOW that's a very sad case indeed - who knows his history, why he's doing what he's doing. You showed him you genuinely cared and I bet - he's probably never experienced that out in the streets.

In the old days (pre-internet) in LA, a Hustler was guy who plied his trade on the street ( in my era that usually meant Santa Monica Blvd). An Escort advertised his services in the Advocate or Frontiers, or through an Agency.

There are still decent bars like the Townhouse in New York where you can meet high-clsss hustlers in person. In the 1990s there were more bars in both LA and New York.

Hiring was pretty safe, because the bars mostly took complaints seriously
