I have heard it and read it here so many times, I have it memorized - hire the tried and true. Instead I hire the edgy and new, and last night it didn't work. I made an offer to a guy on Adam4adam. He wasn't advertising, but I asked him if he'd be interested in a generous guy. He said yes. I rented a cheap room and met him. He was just my type, and I liked what I saw and did. We left together a couple hours later. Today I get a call from this guy from the motel telling me that he filed a police report as everything was stolen from the hotel room. I realized I had left the key on the dresser but did not check to make sure it was still there as we left the room...and the guy from Adam does not answer my messages. I never seem to learn the basics and it comes back to haunt. I'm not looking for sympathy - just mentioning so others will be reminded of the risks of doing something like this. I begged the motel to just let me pay for the damages and cancel the police report and they say they will charge my card and cancel the report. So far no warrants at my door, but I'm plenty worried.

STOP!

There is a world of difference between hiring an unreviewed escort and hiring a guy who isn't an escort. You hired a guy who isn't an escort. He isn't "edgy and new." He isn't even "an escort!"

I'm skeptical of the call from the motel. You don't know whether he is telling the truth. Not sure leaving the key on the dresser was such a hot idea, but can't unring that bell. Nor can you unring the bell of hiring a guy who isn't an escort, but you can avoid this happening again by hiring only guys who are actually for hire.

I remember a hookup with a guy from the gym when I was much younger. I rented a hotel room so we could play more after the steamroom, and I was so paranoid I took the key into the shower with me afterwards.

Unfounded, he didn't try anything, and it was a very nice time.

What did a cheap motel room have that was worth stealing?

Unless it's a privacy issue, why are you afraid of a police report? Tell the police what happened and let the cards fall where they may. And did you discuss the amount they were going to charge to your card? Lawyers in the house?...

I didn't expect sympathy but I didn't expect attacks either. The guy, or someone, stole all the towels, sheets, pillows, blanket, etc. They only charged me $50 whuch was surprisingly low. Why am I worried about a police report? Start with wife, kids, job, etc in a small conservative southern city where my name would make headlines. Yeah I'm worried. But yeah, it's my own fault, and yeah I could have prevented this. That's why I am posting.

Well, in his defense, you did say you were a generous guy. ;)

All kidding aside, I'm sorry this happened to you. The good thing is, it only cost you $50 to learn what could have been a very expensive lesson.

All of the sudden so many Monday quarterback showing up...

It was a mistake, but you only know it now after you did it... You got a bargain with handsome amateur guy, you got lucky he didn't let his "buddies" into the room to take your money and debit cards and empty your account while you were being held at gun point inside the room.

next time he may not wait for someone to ask him if he's into "generous$" guys... he'll just ask for them and get away not just by taking a key card and coming back for the towels and bed sheets but he'll think of something else more lucrative too.

So sad because if the guy is handsome, gay and needy (he stole the bed sheets and towels) why he doesn't buy Viagra online and start working as an escort making more money than what you paid him and with better perks than free/stolen "towels and bed sheets". I hope you still have your iPhone with you...

I know... people die trying to make it into this country.

Mexicans immigrant legal and illegal call white Americans who are poor "child molesters".

Talking about a crime of opportunity with such al little $, towels and beds... I guess he was too lazy to carry and old TV or to set up an ad and work as an escort.

Police report...got it, it makes sense. So you made the right decision in offering your card, and 50 dollars is nothing. Don't beat yourself up, lesson learned. I would not contact him ever again, for any reason. Put this out of your mind and move on. I've been ripped off, taken advantage of, it sort of goes with the territory. Get back up on that horse and just ride off. ;)

I bet you learned another lesson here....Many of these members have absolutely no self control when writing a reply....They believe that being clever and snarky somehow makes them relevant and super important...The slash and burn replies only make them look stoooooopid...obnoxious..and low...

I do feel sorry for you..We all forget simple things when are mind is occupied with over flowing emotions.....

I once left my cellphone at home and thought for sure I forgot it at a "friends" home....I worried all the way back and was relieved when I found it in the charger....last time that will happen...lesson learned...check!...check twice!...

That's a good response. I agree that you were right to keep it out the newspapers. In the closet or not, you would have gotten a lot of 'sympathetic' calls, emails and texts. I have been there and I am not in the closet. I am truly sorry that this happened!

I'm not giving sympathy to those who don't think

sorry guy, but you're learning the hard way here. hope it'll make you think more the next time around

ahh, the perennial grump chimes in....

thanks to jakeley for his post....always a good reminder.....he gave us his story and owned up to his mistakes.....based on his comments, I certainly hope it doesn't come back to haunt him in the city he lives in.....

jakeley: take some time off from this hobby, make sure your tracks are covered (i.e. is your wife going to see the credit card charge??), regroup!

Has anyone who has hired working guys for a while not made mistakes? I certainly have, just not jake's mistake.

In the 1990s, I remember forgetting the amount of money we agreed upon, not by a lot but still very embarassing. I was in NYC, I gave him every penny I had, except the coins to get home.

Unfortunately, that's life, sometimes bad things happen. It is good that you were not physically endangered and the monetary loss was minimal. If the perpetrator is also from your city, he is probably equally worried that you may suddenly appear from somewhere and recognize him from your experience.

I am so sorry for what happened to you and I thank you for sharing your story with us. It's always good to get a reminder to be careful and cautious.

Hope there are no further repercussions for you.

You're not the first person who's had secret sex at that motel, I assure you. You probably weren't even the first person that day. The motel probably filed the police report to get you to pay. Now that they have their money, they could care less.

Did you consider reporting this to A4A? The fact that he's accepting "services" without advertising as such is something they certainly won't like. The fact that he stole a number of items from the hotel makes it worse. A4A is based in Canada and Canada has strict privacy laws. Concerns about privacy should be less.

Good idea, if it was grindr they could just blocked his iPhone android and keep him out of their site for a while till he gets another one. But A4A personals (not professional escorts and masseurs) is free and they don't even have a credit card information, he can just create a new account with another email.

Obviously the website (A4A) doesn't want the bad publicity and neither does the OP.

You're right. I'm sure they've seen worse than someone taking the bed sheets and towels, LOL

Small town, big deal.

Is the assumption here that the escort took the key off the desk when you weren't looking, then after you both left the motel, he came back to the motel to steal towels and bed sheets? It seems so strange. I would actually be more suspicious of the motel's story.
