A lot of pornstars I've met started off escorting (or doing something other sex related, i.e. stripping) first and used porn as a way to get additional exposure/advertising. Of course there are other situations... like starting porn first and going into escorting.

At one point porn was more lucrative and money from it was a decent boost to income. Talking to Johnny Hazard (in a social setting), he seemed to imply escorting makes him a decent living and he only does porn when friends ask him to now. He told me his biggest market is DC.

If only Jimmy Fanz would escort.

yes, he'd put out of the market many other escorts, LOL.

He's on my must have list.

I've talked to Colby Keller when he lived in Baltimore and he told me he wanted to move to Albuquerque because of how cheap rent was there compared to Baltimore...

I don't get it, why would you do porno and not escort? I guess he's another who just doesn't have the stomach to do it. Unfortunately now a days companies pay between 800 and 2000 for a scene, a good escort could make that amount in an overnight or during a good weekend and have plenty of time to hit the gym, hang out with friends, etc while a movie would take him at least 4 or 5 hours and leave him exhausted.

I'm also aware that some clients want to hire "good boys" who escort to pay college but don't do porno, that's something only bad boys do. Some escorts even asked me not to write a review because of they didn't want too much exposure and that could back fire in their future.

I guess it's all a personal choice.

Funny that you both picked the guys I google most.

It's not for everyone. When you're doing porn you're pretty sure of getting another hot guy. When you escort, you're getting...well, me. It's definitely two different things.

That was the crux of a forum discussion (different forum) in which Zak Spears was participating. He was so viciously attacked about "no, there's no difference" - by people who had neither done porn nor escorted - that he never posted again.

I've met Colby Keller and asked him this very question.

I recently read that a porn stars career is about 4 yrs. I think I read it on a thread Do porn stars escort during the filming part of their career or after turn to escorting? I think statistics are not available and this is a guess.

In my experience, back in the 80s & 90s, maybe even the early 2000s, Porn scene work was where actors made the most money, today the average life span of a porn career is 2 to 3 years. Some can stretch their career longer by limiting exposure & creating a desire in the viewing market to see more. Also making good contacts helps a lot. Back then only approximately 30% would also escort. With payouts on studio scene work decreasing, combined with the shorter life span of a porn actor career, today about 60% of all porn actors escort as their major source of income.

probably something along the lines of "ewwww, no gross! I would never demean myself by SELLING my body for money" :p

He does sell his body but on camera and to other good looking men, not to us...

I contacted him on adam4adam and he said the same...

Colby:

C'mon use Viagra and close your eyes, it will be over soon and you'll make a lot of money.

I don't think Mr Keller has the stomach for it. I watched some of his youtube postings from his series "In Bed with Colby Keller". In one in particular, I seem to recall a person of size (the guy wrote that he was) asked him about hooking up with him or something similar.

Colby turned him down. He responded politely/delicately as he could that he wasn't attracted to a certain body type. Those weren't his exact words, but he said something to the effect that he likes to be able to pick his partner up and manhandle them and vice versa.

If I find the clip... I'll post a link to it.

In the past, my earliest experience was with a minor porn actor (whose career was all of 4 or 5 films) and he was already "over the hill" at 30 (but had an amazingly fit and sexy body). because drugs were part of the entire porn scene in US back then (late 80's), he was a bit crazy too, and I ended up picking him up on a NY street where he was cruising and had some sweaty sex in a $40 flop house room for $100. The good 'ole days!

Later I discovered the European (read... Czech-Hungarian) porn market and some of the most memorable sex was had visiting Prague and Budapest where guys were much more reasonable for a few hires hire and were (mostly) agile and willing with older gentlemen. Now, Rudynate, these were minds that defied understanding (almost every one was straight or simply gay-for-pay, few called themselves bisexual, all seemed to have girl-friends, wife and children on the side) but were amazingly good sex machines with other men too. Whatever was in the water should be marketed.

Back in US -- there have been some spectacular porn actors who are also fantastic escorts (Michael Vincenzo is in a category all his own, both for what he provides and for aging so damn gracefully). I have hired from the Michael Lucas stable of guys from Eastern/Central Europe (many are not comfortable as escorts, but enjoy porn - few have made the full transition to enjoying BOTH --- at reasonable rates, such as Valentin Petrov or Bogdan known as Comrad Blu). Many American porn actors that I find attractive turn out to be bi- or gay-for-pay, and useless in a hire (exceptions are there but they are few and far between in the category of guys that push my buttons) - but A+ escorts who have done porn are Antton Harri, Matt Hyland, Stephen Ponce, and Karsin Knightly.

Had the amazing pleasure of recently hiring Mike Gaite (reviewed today by someone else but my experience is exactly the same, and my review is in the queue too). WOW. He stands out from the crowd of porn actors currently working as escorts too.

And you can't blame him. Most people aren't built to play in this pool, either as clients or providers.

That is an interesting thought. A thought I'd probably agree with. Would you care to elaborate? Especially on the 'client' side of the equation?

My general thought is this: there is not much money to be made in porn, if you are just the actor. (If you own a studio, it's a different story.) Therefore, if you are an actor, what would be the motivation? How big would the motivation have to be for you to throw away career opportunities later in life, opportunities that will be closed to you because you did porn? Or do actors not think about it rationally before they agree to have their first scene shot?

If the answer is: money, then virtually the only career open to you is to be an escort. A modelling agency will not hire you. Any company doing background checks will not hire you. The hope and the expectation is that your porn name will command a higher hourly rate as an escort, and that you may be hired more frequently. Until you burn out. I honestly can't think of anything else.

From time to time, when somebody I know complains about their lack of sex, or that they have become invisible to attractive young men, I ask them if they have ever considered hiring. Inevitably, they either recoil or give me sort of a patronizing look. I think hiring is the world's best-kept secret, but doing it and enjoying it requires mastery of an inner game that most people aren't up to.

As I said upthread, I would really like to know something about the inner game it takes to be a successful escort. I have a lot of respect for those who've mastered it.
