Is anyone else turned OFF, rather than on by "lumbersexuals"?

I just read an article somewhere on the web about a new trend among (I presume, predominantly straight) men: the "lumbersecual" look. It includes, not only the sartorial trappings but really long and usually unkempt beards.

I know I've been more than a little put off when some of my favorite porn stars (who I now assume to be G4P) showed up looking like they'd been lost in the woods for several months.

These include Tommy Defendi, Colby Keller, and a couple of others, some well-known, others who are newcummers. Either clean-shaven, OR with NEATLY-TRIMMED beards, I find those guys to be incredibly hot/sexy/masculine, etc. When the beard gets over 6" in length and straggly ... UGH!

Anyone else notice this trend?

If you google the term, the top hits tend to contain flattering photos (all of them, in four different online sites, of the same guy) of perhaps the one guy who looks good in that kind of beard ... although his beard, though long, is neatly trimmed and combed.

I have nothign about flannels, axes/hatchets, and bots. But those straggly-scraggly beards ... yeach!

I, for one, sure hope that it turns out to be a flash in the pan!

I also find it very unattractive.

I blame professional athletes for the popularity of the look. Some have it as their look all the time (like James Hardin) and some just grow them for the playoffs.

But I'm sure some people like it. If it's your thing, enjoy the look while its popular, fellas!

As fads go, this one seems fairly harmless. When it's over these men can shave and return to their former hotness. Unfortunately, the same thing cannot be said about tattoo fads... those guys are ruined forever. I think that tattoos are starting to lose their popularity, but we're going to have to endure an entire generation of otherwise beautiful men who will be inked the rest of their lives.

Like so many things, it all depends on the man. I think it looked great on Kenny Brain, for example, the gay model on Big Brother in Canada. What never looks good is thin, stringy facial hair, no matter how long and no matter how attractive the man otherwise is.

What has become commonplace here in SF among young 20-30 somethings is a sidewall haircut, long on top, gelled and brushed back and to the side, and a quite bushy full beard. ON THE RIGHT MAN, it is so sexy that it makes me wet. But, ON THE RIGHT MAN is an important qualifier.

Men have sort of a blind spot when assessing whether they look good with facial hair. There are many men sporting facial hair who should just give up and go clean-shaven.

I'm glad to see facial hair making a comeback.

I noticed the trend about a year ago, when beards began creeping downward. Now two of my fav bar-tenders went the way of the mountain man look, and numerous guys at the gym are into the un-kempt beard look. Not really my thing, but it does Look good on some, no getting around that. Personally if you have a little 'swag' and the body to carry it off, then it works.

I agree with corndog, seems fairly harmless, and it's nice to see men experimenting with different looks.

I suppose it is in fact harmless, but most guys that I see with beards can't carry it off and they think they are so hot with their face covered in brush. Give me a clean shaven man any day... and the long, straggly and unkempt ones are the worst.

Have you ever been rimmed or kissed by a guy with a beard?

you should try it.

One problem with beards is that they really need to be kept clean or they get smelly.

Seems like every guy- straight or gay - here in the Northwest is bearded, but it has always been that way. The sculptured thing is new, though, and sometimes ya just gotta laugh at the things guys do to be unique!

I love a closely trimmed beard (though I can't grow one myself). A hot Italian, Greek or Arab man with a neatly trimmed short beard -- HOT.

But it's a pretty rare guy who can grow a long one and look good to me. So yeah, I'm with you. Not a fan the vast majority of the time.

As for the lumberjack look, sure I like it well enough. It's masculine. That's about it.

I think it's a look that will be around for a while -- a variation on the sculpted hipster beards.

I can remember when it was odd even for a bald man to shave his head. I remember in the mid 80's when I met a friend of mine who had been living in NYC and I was surprised to find that he had grown a goatee. It just seemed so eccentric. In the early 90's my brother was the only man in a large wedding party who didn't have a shaved head and goatee. A few years earlier that combination just seemed odd, but by now it was trendy. These days it's commonplace. In 5-10 years we'll be taking these extreme beards for granted and some style trend will be on the edge.

Scalp tattoos?

Nostril stretching?

Eyelid piercing?

I actually find guys with (well-trimmed or closely trimmed) beards VERY HOT when rimming, --- heck there are men out there who have shaved heads who also do amazing things down there, but I too hope that those beards are THOROUGHLY scrubbed, shampooed or whatever both before and after the fact. (The whole art of rimming has been discussed here often enough -- love the idea, like doing it and having it done to me, but damn all the concerns of absolute hygiene (and can it ever be 100% clean down there?) made it all very nerve-wracking and a buzzkill to the moment.

Close trimmed beards, count me in.

That lumbersexual look, no way.

I have a straight friend (professional, owns his own business and his wife hates the beard) who loves that type beard and refuses to shave it.
