James Garner, star of many TV shows including The Rockford Files and Maverick and a frequent star of films, mostly of the made for TV variety, has passed at age 86. I remember being captivated by Maverick when i was a boy. He seemed so worldly and wise and he was mostly a lover rather than a fighter. RIP

A s a kid, I loved watching The Rockford Files in reruns on the local UHF Channel. And let's not forget his performance in Victor Victoria. May he rest in peace.

One of my 2 early infatuations. He and Robert Conrad from "Wild West" were just so damn sexy an there characters portrayed them as very regular guys which made these 2 hunks even more desirable.

Thanks for the memories James

I loved the line in MAVERICK:

[bad guy is hanging by his feet]

"I can't talk when I'm upside down!"

"You can't talk when you're rightside up,

but you're going to talk, even if it's inside out!"

May you Rest in Peace, James.

Ah, yes. A walk through Memory Lane [which, all too often, is like walking through Mockingbird Lane].

I didn't know of Mr. Garner of his until he drove the pace car to start the 1975 Indy 500. (Growing up in Indianapolis, the 500 was THE social and sporting event the month of May in the 70s and 80s.) My favorite Garner role was King Marchand in Victor/Victoria.

I liked him in "Support Your Local Gunfighter" and "Support Your Local Sheriff". He and Susanne Phleshette had great chemistry. Both movies had great supporting casts (Jack Elam, Harry Morgan, John Dehner, etc. etc.)

I also liked him in the Polaroid commercials with Mariette Hartley in the 1980's. They, too, made great on-screen chemistry.

His love of automobiles and racing came from a racing movie he did in the 1960's (It was either "LeMans" or "Grand Prix"--I don't remember which off the bat).

I had forgotten about those great Polaroid commercials!

And I'd forgotten about Mariette Hartley. Great trip down memory lane!
