Well it's the "wearin of the green" time again. A great time for all (Irishmen and those who want to be Irish for a day) to have a fun time enjoying all the festivities that are a part of St. Paddy's Day. Heading into Beantown in a while to partake of the festivities as part of the Parade.

HAVE A GREAT SHAMROCK DAY!!!!

I hope one day we'll see openly gay Irish men parading.

Maybe based on stereotypes some people are afraid we'll parade like this, but Saint Patrick ain't pride.

Well Sam Adams pulled out at least in part because of pressure from Club Cafe, who announced that they would stop pouring SA. I think whatever the motivation, it was courageous of SA to take a stand. I still remember the Coors fight with the gay community way back in the 70's. It took years for Coors to finally make amends, but it still remains a sore issue in the gay community today. I say kudos to SA for taking an immediate stance on the issue.

Just wanted to point out that the Boston St. Patrick's Day Parade IS NOT sponsored by the City of Boston. It originated years ago in South Boston (formerly almost 100% Irish blue collar workers and their families). It is organized by a private group called "Allied War Veterans Council" with it's primary member being John "WACKO" Hurley (I'm not kidding) In fact the Mayor of Boston and the Congressman from South Boston have been working tirelessly to resolve the issues, and both have indicated that they probably won't march in the parade if the issues are not resolved.

Such a shame. There are some groups of people who live in the past and refuse to change. Think in the future Boston should step in and only issue a parade permit if the parade is for all interested parties.

No Issues in Pittsburgh Parade

Even an issue that has caused controversy at other large St. Patrick's Day parades in New York City and Boston this year -- the exclusion of gay groups from those parades -- was a non-issue.

"Our policy has always been that nobody is excluded because of race, sex or sexual orientation," said parade Chairman Pat O'Brien. "This has never been an issue, and shouldn't be an issue."

Any redhead would make St. Patrick's special... I propose we work to hire any and all of them (whether Irish or not, as long as the red hair is "natural") on this special day and see who finds the lucky charms or a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!!!

I grew up and went to college just outside of Boston. Events like the parade confirm my memories that neither Boston nor the state of Massachusetts are a bit less liberal that the rest of the country believes.

I'm sorry I had trouble following this statement. Did you mean that you think Boston and Massachusetts are less liberal than many people think they are?
