I met Morgan Fairchild when Dynasty was at it's peak (I was like 3 years old... ha) and she was actually homely. Like - not pretty at all in person.

I saw Mohamed Ali at the airport and he was surrounded by kids, being patient and kind to each of them.

I know a celebrity personally so I should prob not say who.. but she is incredibly real and sweet. Celeb life has it's own challenges for sure.

Years ago, friends and I ran into Quentin Crisp on the streets of Manhattan. He was quite charming!

My best friend and I went to see Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much in NYC in the early 80s (Gremlins was sold out). Mayor Koch was there with us.

Met Stephen King at a book signing in the 70s. He was very nice and down to earth.

Met John Waters at a few speech/autograph events. He was actually a little bit rude to me once, but I think it was not intentional (or standard) behavior on his part.

Met Edith Massey at a concert (Rootboy Slim's Punk Prom with special guest Queen of the Prom, Edith Massey). She was very sweet.

Waved hello to Traci Lords at a nerd convention once. I shouted that she was great in Crybaby and she smiled at me.

Sitting in a deli in NYC with my best friend and daughter. Some of the principal actors from Spring Awakening came in. We had tickets for the next day, but my friend has already seen it and recognized them.

Saw Doc Severinson in a Milwaukee elevator once.

I met three members of the Tubes after a concert onc

But my favorite one is this: I flew to NYC to see the musical Carrie but it closed before I got there. My best friend and I are riding on the subway and he is savaging the play. After a while, he realizes with horror that one of the lead actresses (who played the villain Chris Hargenson--I think her name was Charlotte d'Amboise?) was sitting right across from us. He had earlier told me that she was the one bright spot on the play but that opinion was not included in that conversation.

In a long ago previous career, I encountered:

Pearl Bailey

Hermione Gingold

Stacy Keach

Patrick Macnee

Ted Shackelford

Stevie Wonder

All were nice, but Ms. Bailey was my favorite. A wonderful woman.

Joe Flynn (Captain Binghamton) –literally ran into him at the door to CBS Television City. Acted like he wanted me to say something but I was too startled.

Lauren Bacall – met her outside her dressing room after the premier of “Applause” – she came out with three huge “hunks” at her side – I was amazed at how old and horribly wrinkled she looked without her makeup.

Tom Wilson (Biff Tannen from the Back to the Future movies) – great guy, very grounded. Quiet, gentlemanly – he is the exact opposite of “Biff the Bully.”

Neurotic comedian Richard Lewis – gave me the “thumbs up” when I wouldn’t let some old bitty in a Mercedes jump ahead of everybody in traffic on Wilshire Blvd.

Guy Lombardo – from the Royal Canadians. One of the nicest, friendliest, most accommodating people I’ve ever met.

Ed McMahon at the Beverly Center bookstore – he was signing books (no one was there) but he yelled out at Chuck Woolery who was passing by. Very jovial.

Do porn stars count? Vladimir Correa (was there a male strip/suck place in Times Square called the Pleasure Chest?); Peter Berlin walking the streets of SF in the mid 1970’s, and Brad Stone in the Village circa 1995.

Jeff Stryker (Charles Peyton) at Drake’s (anybody remember that great store on Melrose?)

Susan Hayward at a vocal coach in Woodland Hills, CA. She was as stunningly beautiful as on the screen and very nice when I approached her. I was 17 and so starstruck.

Natalie Wood at a gallery in Laguna Beach, CA. She was tiny and very thin and unapproachable.

Bernadette Peters in the taxi rank in front of the Weston Hotel in Costa Mesa, CA. Tiny, gorgeous and friendly. We chatted for several minutes until her limo arrived.

Ayn Rand - A total bitch with no redeeming features. Took delight in savaging a very young student when it wasn't necessary.

  • Ricky Martin - his mom and mine lived in the same building in Miami for a few years and became friendly. I tried desperately to flirt with him but he likes them a bit taller. :(
  • Madonna & Lola - Central Park...she caught me gawking at her hot body guard. I complimented her on her dress and she commented on my running shorts being flattering :)
  • Sat next to Gwen Stefani on a flight to Europe ...she smelled amazing and asked me about my book. I got drunk and fell asleep for most of the flight, hope I didn't snore!
  • I met Bryan Secrest while waiting for an elevator - he was just a little taller than me and thanked me profusely when I gave him directions to the nearest ATM...I wonder why he needed cash
  • I'm still hoping to run into William Levy...sigh

Not even a bit surprising ... but thanks for the confirmation of just what I would expect.

When someone says, "I love Atlas Shrugged" -- and why the hell should that happen more than once in anyone's life, if ever?--it is a REG FLAG that you are talking to a person who (a.) is not someone you want to know better and (b.) has no literary standards whatsoever, and may never have even read a good book.

"...I emailed Harold Bloom, Sterling Professor of the Humanities and English at Yale University. Professor Bloom did not mince words: 'Ayn Rand was a writer of no value whatsoever, whether aesthetic or intellectual. The Tea Party deserves her, but the rest of us do not. It is not less than obscene that any educational institution that relies even in part on public funds should ask students to consider her work. We are threatened these days by vicious mindlessness and this is one of its manifestations.'"

Barbara Walters lunching at the restaurant in Barneys New York, ca. 2000. A bit startling how frail and tottering she looked in person, much different than my impression of her on camera.

A couple of weekends ago in NYC, my companion and I had Sunday brunch at Norma's.

We think Chelsea Handler and a friend were sitting next to us - 2 feet away on a side wall. Hilarious interaction with us about the sheer magnitude of her waffle plate!

Ryan Reynolds was in the row in front of mine on the red-eye from LAX to JFK last night. Very handsome (as we all know). Seemed quite slender in his tight skinny jeans. I did not speak with him but he did come off as being quite effeminate in his mannerisms and voice (when speaking with the flight attendant). I wonder about him??????????????

On the JFK to LAX flight on Wednesday, Jeffrey Tambor (of Transparent and many other things) was directly in front of me. One passenger asked him for a pic but he refused.

@EZEtoGRU, you should check out Ryan Reynolds' Twitter feed. He is wickedly funny and seems to enjoy self deprecating humor. His most recent post from yesterday might just reference your flight.

"Airplane toilets are aggressive. It wasn't until I got back to my seat that I noticed my pants and testicles were missing."

I agree his Twitter is very funny. I noticed the comment about the airplane toilets as well. I think he must have been on JFK to LAX the day before. I guess he went to LA for a day and then back to JFK on last nights red-eye.....which is when I saw him.

Another sighting: Patrick Stewart in the AA Flagship Lounge at JFK just now. He's tiny.

The best airports and routings to spot celebs in the USA are in and betwen LAX/JFK/MIA. The showbiz crowd seems to gravitate between these three places.

Lets see:

Sandra Bullock: Hawaiian Air at LAX. Friendly outgoing extremely nice

Karen Black: Very crossed eyed. Met her at graduation. Was very nice until she found out I was a S.P. Then completely ignored me.

Cybil Shepard: A complete rude Cunt

Sophia Lauren: Knew her son at USC, but had no idea who he was. He introduced me to his mom and I first thing out my mouth with you look like Sophia Loren? She smiled and laugh then said I am Sophia Loren. Gracious elegant beautiful. You could tell what kind of person she was by the way her son's acted They are very gracious kind nice men.

George Lucus: short maybe 5'5". Great guy.

Frank and Nancy Sinatra: Warm generous people. If you're part of their circle you're always family.

Hugh Hefner: Quiet shy

Heidi Fleiss: anorexic meth whore. Horrible complexion. I met at her shop on 3rd Street Promenade and she was a mess.

Larry Flynt: Met him at Loveless Cafe when you opened up his Hustler Store. He's a train wreck in a gold-plated wheelchair.

Nicole Kidman: Rude met her at Whole Foods here in Nashville. Has the attitude of Do you lnow who I am?

There are some other old time entertainers that went to my grandparents temple and belong.to their Country Club that probably no one remembers or heard of. Jack Benny, George Burns, Milton Berle, Danny Thomas and others.

A couple I forgot to mention in my earlier post....

Muhammad Ali at LAX. By then Parkinson's was very evident. He had a walker, but stood in line like everyone else to board the flight.

Former VP Dick Cheney at DCA. There was a crowd at the gate, and they called for the first group to board. Next thing I know some guy snaked around most of us to get on board. Didn't recognize him at that point, but I was behind him on the jetway, and noticed his satchel said Vice President of the United States. He got into row one, and I was two rows behind.
