Some years ago, at university, I was a teaching assistant to a professor who had been blind since childhood. As one might expect, his being a professor and all, he wrote quite well.

Your response to this post certainly seems unnecessarily nasty, unless you have some personal knowledge of the writer beyond this particular post. The point of his comments seems to be that his misspellings are typing errors, which he can't see because he is legally blind; since my mother is an excellent speller but is now legally blind and makes the same kinds of errors, I find his apology quite believable.

Of course, if he is legally blind, I'm not sure how he manages to read this message board, unless he has some special technology.

I could mention that he has posted once with perfect spelling, and I got my hopes up, but alas, he has forgotten spell check.

Yes, there is one special technology.

Thanks to Don, we know that blind people can read over the Internet if the one's site is compatible

In order to check if your site is compatible go to:

RE:

Sorry guys,I'm just not buying it.OP is a freak, plain and simple.

Not only spelling errors(of which we all are guilty on occassion)but stupid, nonsensical syntax, and moronic ramblings about all the boys who have done him wrong.

And a blind guy is going to Splash and the G to check out the boys?

Nope, smells funny to me,like a troll under a bridge looking to play a sympathy card.

And I have met a few "differently abled"folks who were real A-holes.

Of course if I was in their shoes-I would be pretty pissed off also. But,I don't think I would transfer my anger to dancers and strippers who would not give me the time of day.

I have met many "working boys"who are loving guys willing to work with dissabled fellas. If the OP is so challanged-hope he finds one of these and stop spewing his BS on this board.

They have special technology for that too. For the measly sum of $250, you are placed into this special room, velvet lined, with foam cushions, where small, oriental men fan you with palm fronds while the dancers take turns sitting on your lap for 13.2 seconds. If one it too cold, you simply raise your hand and the next dancers alights on your lap. When the one who feels just right sits on there, you get to sip a glass of perfectly chilled ginger ice tea with just the touch of orange honey, which you then pour down the dancers g-string from your mouth. When he slaps you, your session is done.

RE: Definition for legally blind

I'm not defending this guy at all. He may not be legit and he may not. I just want to let everyone know that legally blind doesn't mean you can't see at all. It basically means you'll have great difficulty seeing.

The definition for "Legally Blind" is vision that is 20/200 without correction. (Make note of the "without correction part."

Without correction, my vision is far worse than 20/200, so by simply removing my glasses I can tell you what "legally blind means to those who meet the criteria. I can still see, but I might not recognize people. But then again, I might if you have obvious distinctive features that aren't subtle. For some reason, moving objects such as people are easier to recognize than stationary objects.

Would I have trouble typing well? If I were a pretty good typist to begin with, I'd have fewer problems. But if I weren't good to begin with, it would be difficult to learn. Could I read well enough to read incoming email or to correct my own? I could, but someone with worse sight might not.

Could I enjoy a strip show? You betcha. Not nearly as well as I do now, but I could see enough to have a good time, especially in those places where the dances come by for person tips. (I can see and read quite well up close even without glasses. Hey, what a great excuse for getting a guy up close--"I'm legally blind so I need you to get up close so I can see what you look like.")

Maybe he has a really cute boy who sits nearby (or on his lap) and reads it aloud to him. If I were legally blind, that's what I would get. }(

I know that the word "oriental" is offensive to Asians, but I was never sure why. This is what I just learned from the American Heritage dictionary:

"Asian is now strongly preferred in place of Oriental for persons native to Asia or descended from an Asian people. The usual objection to Oriental -- meaning “eastern” -- is that it identifies Asian countries and peoples in terms of their location relative to Europe. However, this objection is not generally made of other Eurocentric terms such as Near and Middle Eastern. The real problem with Oriental is more likely its connotations stemming from an earlier era when Europeans viewed the regions east of the Mediterranean as exotic lands full of romance and intrigue, the home of despotic empires and inscrutable customs. At the least these associations can give Oriental a dated feel, and as a noun in contemporary contexts (as in the first Oriental to be elected from the district) it is now widely taken to be offensive. However, Oriental should not be thought of as an ethnic slur to be avoided in all situations. As with Asiatic, its use other than as an ethnonym, in phrases such as Oriental cuisine or Oriental medicine, is not usually considered objectionable.

If you were legally blind,Rick, be assured that Flower would come sit on your lap and read to you as well as take care of some of your other needs}( -- all the while assuring you that Flower was a REALLY cute boy! :+

But what if I want to sit on Flower's lap? Or does that come under the topic of "Rick's other needs"? }(

:o That is #6 "under Rick's other needs."

It's a long list btw, and would take quite a while for Flower to complete everything on the list in one sitting, but hell--what are friends for anyway? :*
