Can we ( the novices) hear from the veteran clients about their experiences over the years in regard to contracting STDs and HIV. In most of the posts by the experienced guys (clients) one never hears of contracting illness and what they did about its

Thanks

i believe if you are careful, safe and lucky, you can avoid STDs but each encounter is a risk, just as each time you cross the street you could be hit by a car if you are oblivious. For me, so far so good.

PK said everything I would. While playing safe is a priority, I'm also sure to be tested regularly just to be sure.

Although I am not that sexually active, I support the first two posters' advice, for it is the same mine. Thus far I have been fortunate in my NOT having

been exposed to any illness while engaging in "safer play" with escorts.

When I've made an appointment and during the course of days and perhaps a week-- if I get sick with cold, I always email the escort and cancel, for I do

not want him to become ill due to my irresponsible actions. I've notified the escorts in plently of time in order for them to free the time for others.

I dated a masseur for about 5 years. I never contracted HIV nor the clap from him, I did get a one-celled gut parasite (blastocystis homonis)

and seemed to come down with common garden variety colds a lot more frequently than before or after we dated.

One can get blastocystis from eating peaches fresh of the farm . . .

(and no, I never rimmed him).

I've found that sometimes I have come down with a cold within a day or two of being with an escort, but it could just be a coincidence. But once -- and this is about ten or so years ago -- I was with a guy who had the cutest butt ever and, for the first time, I did a little rimming. It was after we had showered together and I had cleaned him out with soap. But evidently that was not good enough. I became very ill within a day and felt like I was dying. When I got to a clinic the doc quickly diagnosed some tropical infection and meds got me better, but it was an intense experience that totally turned me off from rimming...

Agree with the above recs to take sensible precautions but not to abandon all pleasure ye who enter here. In a decade+ of hiring, including rimming and sucking uncovered, I've never gotten anything. OTOH a non-hire connection gave me scabies, easily treated but a nuisance. And only by luck did I miss contracting pinworm one time from a roommate (transmissible by toilet-seat contact).

So all through life it seems you pays your money (or not!) and takes your chance.

I'm really curious as to how the doctor diagnosed you with blastocystis?

Did he get a "stool and ova parasite test" from you?

When I get tested in Michigan , they never "look" for parasites as part of the STD testing routine. Is this parasite test a San Fran thing, or should I be requesting a parasite test from my doctor each year?

I'm really curious about this...

Actually, I got a horrible case of Pinworms (literally a bunch of miniature white worms crawling out your hole!!!) when I RIMMED by ex on a daily basis for nearly 2-years. I was digesting his feces that had the eggs/larva of the parasite, and they hatched inside my intestine. A few weeks later I had the nightmare of my life.

I called my doctors office and the receptionist asked what was the reason I had to see the doctor. I told her I had worms crawling out my ass! I got the first appointment that day.

My doctor shrugged it off claiming it was something usually seen in children.

Pinworms, also known as Enterobius vermicularis, is commonly acquired through fecal-to-oral ingestion. Pinworms are kind of nocturnal in their reproductive cycles. The females will actually come out of the anal opening at night (in your sleep) to lay eggs around the outside of the anus. You can test for them by having a partner, or someone, take a tongue depressor wrapped with scotch tape with the sticky side out, and pressing it against the anus. The eggs will stick to the tape and you can see them under a microscope, sometimes even under macroscopic (with your eyes) inspection as well. This is commonly referred to as the "scotch tape test".

Very common among children actually, who tend to not practice adequate hygiene after toileting, wipe, and then not do proper handwashing, and then put their hands to their mouths. So yes, it would be common for this to occur in gay men who practice "rimming" as well.

As far as a tapeworm, yes, this is possible as well. Most parasites are acquired through fecal/oral routes.

Call me a wimp but, this info is more that enough to stop me from ever rimming again...

(from the Merck Manual The Second Home Edition)

Some bacteria (Shigella, Campylobacter, and Salmonella), viruses (hepatitis A, B, and C), and parasites (Giardia and other amebas) that are usually transmitted nonsexually can often be transmitted during sex. Infection by these organisms, with the exception of hepatitis B and C, is usually acquired by mouth. Thus, activities in which the mouth comes into contact with the anus of an infected person can transmit these infections.

Symptoms are typically those of the specific organism transmitted and may involve diarrhea, fever, abdominal pain or bloating, nausea and vomiting, and jaundice. Infections recur frequently, especially in homosexual men with many sex partners. Some infections cause no symptoms, but may lead to serious long-term complications, such as chronic hepatitis B or C.

Other infections are parasitic

Amebiasis is an infection of the large intestine or other organs caused by the single-celled parasite Entamoeba histolytica

Ascariasis is infection caused by Ascaris lumbricoides, an intestinal roundworm

Cryptosporidiosis is a diarrhea-producing intestinal infection caused by the one-celled parasite Cryptosporidium parvum.

Giardiasis is a diarrhea-producing infection of the small intestine caused by the single-celled parasite Giardia lamblia.

Pinworm infection (enterobiasis) is a disease caused by intestinal roundworms.

Tapeworm infection is an intestinal disease caused by one of several species of tapeworms, including Taenia saginata, Taenia solium , and Diphyllobothrium latum .

Toxoplasmosis is infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii, a single-celled parasite.

Whipworm infection (trichuriasis) is an intestinal infection caused by the roundworm Trichuris trichiura.

Just call me paranoid but I think I will pass on the Rimming!

When I read threads such as these it makes me reflect on how I have evolved. While BDSM was always part of my persona dating back to my youth, I am certain that what helped me evolve into such a scene was a need to escape certain types of potentially unsafe activities and replace them with activities that were still edgy, kinky, and had the lure of producing excitement. As such, BDSM perfectly compensated for and in fact totally justified avoiding certain "other" activities... be they mainstream, unconventional, or otherwise. In essence, S&M was an escape form unsafe activities. Such a reaction might seem strange as BDSM is possibly the activity that scares the daylights out of most individuals... Yet, it actually is probably the safest when performed properly and sanely... and quite satisfying I may dare add as well... I know that appears to be perverse... but different strokes for different folks... and in the case of S&M the strokes are where it's at... and as noted if like all things it is done judiciously and cautiously one can avoid virtually every caveat, admonition, and warning in the sexual playbook... Something to ponder...

Whipped Guy - your comments make perfect sense to me. Finding an activity one enjoys to replace one that isn't liked is quite common. For example, in my fitness routine I find running/jogging boring and uninteresting, but I love swimming. But I have good friends who only enter a pool to cool of on a warm day and never consider it an exercise option.

In response to the question about how I was diagnosed with blastocystis, my masseur friend told me he had an active case, so I called

up my HMO (Kaiser) and they did do a stool sample and confirmed.

A course of flagyl did not get rid of it. Then they tried a couple of other things. It eventually went away.

The experience was unpleasant enough that I never, ever want to go through it again.

My masseur friend likes to travel to far away and off-the-beaten track places, and semi-routinely has testing for parasites done on his return.

Thank you for your response.

I think every sexually active gay male who is an active rimmer should request the "Stool & Ova parasite test" at least once a year.

When you say the doctors "tried a couple other things", do you mean they prescribed stronger meds than Flagyl?

I would imagine the anxiety of the entire experience would be intense for most people.

The first post I made said that I was *dating* somebody who made most of his income as a masseur, so we kissed and fucked and

even ate meals together sometimes.

And, ironically enough, I never asked for nor got a massage from him - although I did work on *his* back to get some persistent knots out from time to time (remember the old saw about "the children of the cobbler go barefoot"?)

In fact, I dated him for 4 years. He did not want a primary relationship; I got a better offer eventually. We're still friends.

Is it safer to hook up with a porn star because they get tested more frequently? Or is that not the case?

My little brother was a world-famous, straight, porn star for over 10-years. He has over 100 videos/DVD's and he still contracted genital herpes, even though everyone in the biz is constantly tested.

I wouldn't think that anybody, including porn stars, are really getting routinely tested for things like pinworms, amoeba, blasto, etc. Usually only when when they are symptomatic.

As most escorts take their sexual health to be their number one priority, having an encounter with an escort is safer than picking up a guy on grindr and having a bit of recreational play time.

As for colds and things, well I can't remember the last time I caught one. I am taking about in years, not months. Must be about 8 years since I had any type of cold or flu symptoms.. Because myself and other sex workers are in contact with a lot general infections from kissing, touching and being intimate with a high number of men, we seem to build up some sort of immunity. I speak to a lot of escorts online who all say the same thing....they rarely get hit by cold/flu or sickness bugs. Maybe it's because our immune system works overtime.

Agree. I've had scabies and a couple of NSUs from bar pickups, but never anything from ~150 escorts over a dozen years of hiring.

In my more than twenty years of hiring, I have been lucky to only have had one episode of crabs. Unpleasant, but nothing major. I always play safe when anal is involved, but I suck unprotected (I simply cannot stand the taste of latex) and very much enjoy rimming and sometimes having my partner cum in my mouth.
