I have found that if you travel Thursday through Monday you can get pretty decent weekend rates on hotels and rental cars. You'll have to deal with a lot more children in the hotel but rooms are usually about half the price of weekdays.

I've always been surprised at the number of escorts coming to ATL who will stay Mon-Wed or something like that.

I wonder if that gives them a better chance with traveling businessmen?

It would be interesting to know if traveling guys get more locals or visitors as clients (assuming you can tell the difference).

You're right. It very well could be visiting escorts connecting with visiting clients. (and married businessmen in general).

Shuts me out of the game though.

For a one week tour to Houston for example when you add 7 nights in a good hotel, airfare , rental car and meals you cant really do it for less than 1,500 bucks. So the first grand and a half you make is just to cover expenses. I was thinking that why cant I stay home without any extra expense and the actual PROFIT margin would be almost identical to a typical tour without the stress and strain on my body???

Wow, sounds more like a lavish honeymoon vacation than a working business trip LOL. I once got to Houston from Tampa with only $200. Sure it was a stretch, but once I got there, I was all taken care of.

With this touring stuff, unless you work for a company that is flying you all around the country and paying for your air/hotel expenses...you just have to go about it differently. For me, I rarely fly. People always say flying is cheaper. Not in this case. Because on your way to Houston from Florida...there's lots of places you can stop by. And then once you're in Houston, you have 3 cities 3 hours away which amounts to about $20-30 in gas.

Now, I know that's not practical for everyone. But, to incorporate that into the spirit of a tour can make a big difference. For example, I may rent a car and drive a long distance...but my last vehicle was an SUV, so during 2 separate nights I folded the seats down and slept in the back. Sure it's not the most comfortable night's sleep, but once you get to where you're going it doesn't even matter. It's not even sleeping, it's just taking your eyes off the road and waiting until daylight comes again LOL. I don't do it on every trip, but if it comes down to it I'm not opposed. But I'm not going to stop in bumfuck, Tennessee and get a hotel when I know there's no clients around.

Also, staying someplace for a week is a longtime for me nowadays. There are some places you can stay for 5-7 days and be okay, but most places I prefer to stay just 2-4 days and that's it. Even if it took 3 days to get there, I still only stay 2-4 days. In that amount of time, you can do what you need to do and either go home or go on to the next place.

I don't see any benefit for an escort to tour, and I'm a client saying that

In this day and age, you need to find guys who will fly you to them. It's what I do and what a lot of guys still do. No fuss, no muss.

Well...in that some token, in this day and age clients aren't flying guys out as much either. Many are willing to wait until you're in the area, but they aren't always going to fly you in. Especially if I sent out emails to clients that I'm going to be in their area, and then follow up with, "what airline will you be flying me on?"...I'm sure I'd have never gotten to see even half of the places I've seen in the past 2-3 years.

There's certainly benefits in touring. But it all boils down to distance, dates, length of stay, and means of getting there. I can easily do Mikey's Houston trip (with airfare and rental car) for like 1/4 to 1/2 of $1,500 and it wouldn't even involve eating nothing but Ramen noodles once a day LOL (not poking fun at you Mikey, just saying).

On hotel rates: certain resort areas are just the opposite. New Orleans hotels are double on the weekends for example. On atlanta: my experience was 75% of clients were visiting buisnessmen and convention guests mon- thurs. and by the weekend when the locals wanted to play my dick was DONE! lol! On houston: My clients like high end luxury hotels and I kind of like them too! lol. I guess I am spoiled . On the fly in overnight: I have posted before that it is a dying thing. The touring game has grounded 90% of fly ins. I know they happen and everyone can point to one example but it is a dying species , sadly.

It may be dying for you, but for others it's thriving. It's all about what you're selling and how you sell it :)

Smendez: What I am selling is a great product and excellent customer service. My observations are from the front lines from my personal experience and from conversations with dozens of leading escorts all over the country. As I said there are exceptions but BY AND LARGE touring is killing the fly in. I stand by the statement but I admit there are a few guys who still are doing well at it and a few clients who still prefer it.

Yeah, but the thing is we don't know the stipulations behind why certain escorts are being flown in. It may be that the escort toured and traveled for YEARS and spent his own money going to a place and began coming across clients along the way who was willing to fly him in on subsequent visits.

I used to do the touring thing frequently and it was very fun and lucrative. I tend to stay at home more often than not these days. Living in NYC is completely different. I can pretty much get anywhere and back within the day....From Boston to DC and all in between. So if sexy clients cant afford an overnight or can't get away...I just drive or bus to them and back. I go to Philly, Asbury Park, Boston, and anywhere in CT as long as I can get a 2 hour minimum or something close enough to that. Sometimes its worth it for the hour if tolls and gas are reimbursed. I just went to Point Pleasant on Tuesday. It took two hours there and back....but I did a 90 min plus extras for tolls and gas. (Damn, was sad to see the destruction Hurricane Sandy did....houses just GONE.) I think a tour should really be done one of two ways....either with "anchor clients," or because you want to go there anyways. It's funny, I go back to Detroit often and work like crazy when Im there...I barely have enough time to see my family...and thats what I go there for. I have a friend in Chicago, so I go visit and chill and always get work. I get guys asking if I will come there way....and when I do, I would say 90% of them can't see me when I get there. So I don't take those emails seriously anymore. I am curious, do any of you guys keep databases of guys you saw in certain towns and then email them all when you decide to go back? I know some clients hate this, and others think it's great....

I'll be interested to find out if anyone hires me on the RSVP cruise....I put it out there to see what might happen. I get the feeling with so much free desperate cock on a boat that I won't do as well...haha

Jaime, "The East Coast Boy", usually travelled with one of his "Heavenly Boys" in, if you, will "tandem". By his representation to me, their travelling expenses came out of their gross profit, and, he received a percentage of his partner's earnings in compensation of promoting him and providing referrals to prospective clients.

Even traveling without a buddy can turn out well also. I rarely ever get the amount of business I want to when I'm at home for a long amount of time. I didn't travel at all in June due to all the pride stuff going on. By the end of the month, I was down to hardly anything and needed to get going ASAP. I went and was far better off than staying home.

I'm almost always frustrated by the pace at home. Cancels, no-shows, not enough calls, not able to make more than a 1hr rate, stupid websites blocking you from editing your ad because you posted a photo that resembled a G-rated underwear ad at Target...If I had an RV, or had boyfriend who did, I'd be on tour 24/7. Home would be wherever I am. It's a disservice to myself to only advertise in 1 place.

Is it true that one should not schedule on the last few days of the tour because the escort will cram as many clients as possible? And how can an escort stay hard for so many people in a short span of days? Viagra?

I think some people have an imagined sense of how many clients an escort will see. All that is variable. You can't just assume the person will be worn out by the time it's your turn. Some people may prefer to see only a certain amount of clients at a time. It may be 1 one day, 3 the next, 0 the following, etc. There's no point in trying to be first on the list.

speaking of touring I head out today for a 3 week tour. First up is DC friday-saturday then up to PTOWN for a week on the beach followed by 5 days In BOSTON. Buffalo for a couple (already booked!!) then four days in Rochester, ny watching my boy Phil Mickelson play with his balls at the pga championship. Currently booking each city except buffalo. Purpose of this trip and what ties into my original OP thread here is that I am trying NEW markets for me. http://www.rentboy.com/magicmikey

my escort brothers -

there's a difference between touring and traveling.

I travel a good deal these days. however, I stopped touring after my first three attempts, which was several years ago.

touring never worked out for me the way I thought it should. in each case, I was able to cover my expenses and come home with some earnings - but with each of those three attempts, they were never close to what I could have earned if I had stayed in DC. then there was the headache - the fear that the appointments wouldnt come, or if someone canceled how that would work, or the unknown costs of the trip (let alone the hotel, air, etc as previously mentioned). plus, I was away from my kids - and that was potentially problematic. finally I just concluded that touring - at least for me - wasnt the ideal way to escort.

then I got the wise advice of my buddy DavidSF, who taught me about the concept of "anchor clients." an anchor client is someone who books you for a significant length of time - even perhaps just an overnight, but certainly a 24 hour or multiple day appointment is enough to consider that client an anchor for your trip. I no longer had to set up tours to far away cities, contacting the clients I knew beforehand, arranging hotels, etc. instead, when I could spare the time, I would extend my trip with the client who booked me for, say, 2 or 3 days, into a 5 or 6 day trip. I was already going out to the destination at my anchor client's expense, and could advertise there (and even contact previous clients who were there, to let them know I was coming to their neck of the woods) and wham, bam, thank-you-man, the whole thing became a hell of a lot easier to orchestrate! with an anchor client already in the destination, I would be making the sort of money I needed to earn, for the trip to be do-able. even if no other hires took place on my "other" days, I would be in a place that I could explore. since I really do love to travel, this set up worked out way better than the touring formula I had utilized previously.

couple points -

- I wrote "even if no other hires took place" but in fact that never happened. not promising you'll have the same result, but at least that's been my experience.

- if you are going to do this, you must be careful not to overschedule yourself. you need to be fresh and ready to go when you are with your anchor client, as well as when you are with your "other" clients.

- in order to stay fresh and ready, figure out on a normal non-travel 24 hour period, how many appointments you can do in a day - and know when the tipping one is that ends up reducing your performance. then, when scheduling appointments on your calendar, stick to that first number. if you have more clients that want to see you than you can fit into the trip, use those ten special words, "sorry, but I am now fully booked for this trip." don't worry, there will be other trips there in the future...

hope this helps -

Dave

Good to read this from you Dave. This is the same advice that I have heard from a lot of my escorts. Having that "anchor client" makes so much possible for you guys to travel and is the easiest way for you to operate away from home. And from your travel schedule, it looks like you've got quite a few anchor clients. As you should Dave. As you should.

as the OP i will update the thread: My latest tour (the northeast) was a SMASH! I mean a HUGE success so much so that I think I may actually rethink the OP. I am scheduling the fall now and since I am single now with no limits or restrictions I am open to any and all locations. I totally agree about anchor clients and my recent tour was well anchored but the NEW clients are what pleased me the most. Every single one was nice, pleasant and indicated that I should move to theior local area. That is encouraging. http://www.rentboy.com/magicmikey

Wow, good insight from an elder. I agree with you on the 'touring' part and actually never thought about the differences between it and traveling. Touring is hard. Touring involves weeks on the road or air and going from city to city. It involves tour buses, musicians, and an audience of 15,000 paying exorbitant ticket prices or what not to make it worth it. Or, if someone doesn't have any expenses back home, it would be easier to 'tour' on their own.

The anchor client idea seems more and more useful, but I'm still objective to certain parts of the concept. To me, an anchor client will be great when going to a small town where you don't expect much to come from it. But in larger cities, one can get so many unexpected and last-minute requests...that I don't think it would be required to rely too heavily on an 'anchor'.

Purpose of this trip and what ties into my original OP thread here is that I am trying NEW markets for me. http://www.rentboy.com/magicmikey

Good for you. I'm sorta in the same dilemma. Except mine is trying to find a market that will be both good for escorting AND good for my dating life. That's coming up to be a hard proposition. I'm on the verge of moving out of the country. My options in America are running dry....I want to move SO BAD, but I can't think of any place. It used to be easier to decide before the economy tanked. I wanted to move to Miami, I moved to Miami and that was that. Now I have to nitpick every little variable in a city to make sure it's going to be the right fit.
