It doesn't snow in September there, does it? Going to try to see if we can't make this work ..

According to Tom Skilling, meteorologist for WGN-TV and the Chicago Tribune, trace amounts of snow have been recorded in September since recordkeeping began. The first time was in 1928 and the last 1942. The only two months in which snow has never been recorded were July and August. Here's a link to the article:

I've talked with a couple of clients about the possibility of starting another escort/client gathering in Chicago, in the early fall.

I understand a prior event here didn't go as well as planned, but that's no reason not to try, try again. I've checked the calendar and there doesn't appear to be anything that would screw up the weekend or make hotel rooms prohibitively expensive. Airfare isn't bad either. Plus, Chicago is a good halfway point for people on the west AND the east coasts with travel times. If you've never been to Chicago, it's a lovely city and there's a great gay scene and a lot to do.

So... would anyone be up for meeting for the weekend... say September 7?

Your ideas for events, suggestions for this or another date that works better? My initial idea was that we could celebrate all birthdays on the same weekend, like racehorses on Jan 1.

Deej, Cooper, & co., would you please make this a sticky thread?

Even if 5 people show up, it will be a lot of fun and we can grow from there.

Thanks! :D

I'm in. I have meetings in Chicago that week so it would be nice to meet some of the escorts I don't get a chance to see elsewhere.

Northalstead Market Days is August 10-11 this year. (The largest street fair in the state.) It might be worthwhile to hang your gathering around that. Or not -- it could be too crowded and busy around boystown.

That's an awful time to be in Chicago. I did that two years ago (didn't know it was Market Days) and the city and Boystown were a crowded, overpriced madhouse. Think of Tokyo with taller people.

Ha ha! Tokyo with taller people. My new favorite description of Boystown during Market Days.

I agree with OperaLover21 (and others) that sometime outside of Marketdays will be a better time.

The beginning or middle of September usually has great weather.

I assume this would be open to new guys, as well? It would be great to meet some of you guys, clients and escorts both. How many people normally attend? What kind of stuff goes on? Why was the last Chicago event a bust. I'd be up for the September timeframe. August sounds like a lot of work. Tons of people seem to make everything harder and longer. (Now, if we are talking about c**ks...). Questions, questions, questions. I've never been to Chicago. Plus, I hear they've opened a new Burberry store there!

I'd say the 7th works well. Weekend after Labor Day there's usually a tourism lull; hotel rates often drop even in big cities. In fact, the following weekend (13-15) is even better, once college kids return to school.

Chicago is just an amazing city....nothing about it you won't like, period. As for myself, plans for a Chi-town run are on the back burner. Sorry "T"..... and CE (no linen suit) and sorry Raul...:( My December cruise got canceled so we re-scheduled for September...but CE, should you ever venture into Broward County....:p

New guys are welcome. The last Chicago event that I know about was a lot of fun. A great dinner, fun at The Hole and Jackhammer (I got the chance to give Tyger a wedgie) and of course too many even side events too list.

Yes the weekend of September 13th might be even better.

wow - sounds cool - good job Chris, for suggesting this.

I'd be able to attend if it were the weekend of the 13th-15th. unfortunately, like JScott, Nate and some other guys, the prior weekend isn't good for me.

wish I could say it would be my first time in chicago too, but actually my first time will be this june - woo hoo!!!

To me that's the most important thing. Every since the beginning of SPRING, nearly every place I've visited has been a challenge to getting hotels. Phoenix during Spring training, Palm Springs had stuff going on that weekend, Lexington Kentucky had some derby, San Antonio during a gay pageant/spurs game/UFC fight, Austin had conventions going on. The midwest booked up due to Tornadoes...

But now that we're heading into summer, stuff is looking better. Does anyone know if Northshore beach will be warm enough to go to the beach in Sept?

Ooops.

Now it appears Sept. 7 will no longer work for me. I've got to do some professional stuff back in the real world and can't schedule the time off then.

Suggestions for another date... earlier (in August), later in the month (September or even October)? I'll check to see if there's anything fun happening in Chicago around the turn of fall.

I think this sounds like a fantastic idea. I don't know about other folks in the Midwest, but sometimes I feel neglected. So many clients and working guys live on the coasts, it seems. I'd love to meet some more forum members and wouldn't even mind being the token female. At this point, should we just kind of...well...pick a date and whoever can make it shows up?

I had checked some sample hotel prices, and that mid-month weekend is ideal for discounts. But later in September (maybe around the 27th?) could also offer decent rates. I'm actually traveling in September now, returning the 18th, so I wouldn't mind later in the month. I love the idea of doing this weekend, so hope it works out! :)

Does anyone know if Northshore beach will be warm enough to go to the beach in Sept?

There is a beach called North Shore beach, just north of Loyola University in the Rogers Park Neighborhood, but I'm

guessing you are asking about the beaches in general? The city has 30 or so beaches which tend to tend to have pretty similar

conditions although Hollywood Beach (the main gay beach) and Ohio Street Beach sometimes vary since they face north. And of course breakwaters and depth do vary considerably.

Anyway there are usually some very nice beach days in September and the water can be almost 80. In early October I've swum many times

when the water was still in the 70s. BUT that really varies back and forth day by day depending on which way the wind is blowing.

On the other hand even in August there are days the water can be cold if the wind blows off shore because then the warm surface water is pushed out and colder deep water comes to the surface. There have been times the water temperature has flipped over night from 80 to 50 and then a couple days later back.

But for the warmest swimming take the South Shore train to the Indiana Dunes national lakeshore or round the bend to southwest Michigan where some Chicagoans have summer cottages

I hate cold water but did once swim (really briefly) as early as April and have swum as late as November. Recently I bought a wetsuit and hope to extend my swimming season. Fall even winter (when waves can exceed 10 feet) are the times that some surfers (body, board, and wind) like best. Brrrrrrrr.

Bottom line: never rule out going to the lake, actually in late winter the ice formations can be extremely beautiful.

I hope that there's enough enthusiasm for the idea to go ahead with it anyway. It should be fun and would be a great mid-year break to meet up between PS and DC.

Well late August would probably be ideal though...I want to go to the beach.

The entire month is pretty much out at this point. :(

Uh oh, please don't tell us you're bullshitting on the dates now
