But equally woman talk about going out with the "girls". It's an expression. It's a word that has interestingly divergent usages in different Englishes, and in different contexts. Years ago a popular Australian media personality was interviewing Muhammad Ali, and said 'I like the boy', which in Australian usage was the same as 'I like the guy', but had an entirely different connotation to an African-American. It can be taken to emphasise that the male person is a child (sort the men from the boys) or it can be used interchangeably with men or guys (going out for beers with the boys). From my observation, Australian English is entirely relaxed about using 'boy' for males of any age, but equally using 'boy' to imply a level of immaturity thomas and + Charlie 1 1
