I am thinking about going to Dublin Ireland. Those of you that have been, was it fun? Was the guys there friendly and is there a certain area that I should stay? By the way I will be there for 5 nights, will that be to long?

AtlantaGaGuy,

If you've never been to Dublin before, I think you'll enjoy it. I've been to Dublin many times on business and pleasure trips. My ex still lives there.

Dublin has this special flavor of a very old historical city from the times of dry stone construction. Personally, I think that five days is plenty enough time to enjoy everything the city has to offer. Don't miss the Guinness Factory and have a pint on me on the high altitude Observation Deck. ;-)

If I were you I'd rent a car and head to the West Coast of the Emerald Isle to enjoy the spectacular Cliffs of Moher. You'll get this breathtaking view from up there ...

I can't ell you anything about gay life in Dublin, but I'm sure you will find five days plenty of time to see everything in the city. I second Stephen's suggestion of getting out of the city and seeing the beautiful countryside, like the Cliffs of Moher (you'll need a car, or there are lots of organized bus and train tours).

Green Green is Green they say

I agree with all that has been said. I would add that you can take a coach to some other places in the country as well. I took a train down to County Cork (where my ancestors come from). When I was there the trains were well run, clean and had a variety of destinations in all directions out of Dublin. Do rent a car to see the country. There are some amazing castles that are reachable from Dublin. Bunratty castle, Blarney castle to name a few.

I remember driving southwest of Dublin out into the country. We came upon a small village called Hollywood. It's population is maybe 100 people. At the junction of the main road there was a wonderful old pub/inn called (what else?) The Hollywood Inn. We stopped there for lunch. It was an old country pub with amazing pub fare. The soup was thick and flavorful and bread was hot and fresh from the oven. The Place was built in 1790 and you can Google it. The small friendly staff fussed over us the entire time. We had so much fun. Driving back to Dublin we passed a huge old mansion estate (think Downton Abbey). We pulled off the road and drove up. We got out of the car and walked around the front. A workman came around the corner and told us the estate wasn't occupied because it was being restored. On the drive back to Dublin it fun recalling all of the history the man told us about the place.

My trip was in February of 2002. The people I met knew I was an American and there was an outpouring of sympathy for 911. I think though that the people would have been warm and friendly even without that awful day. An amazing country. Dublin is a wonderful city. I would say 5 days are sufficient if you plan ahead.

As an afterthought, I have never seen so many shades of natural green. A wonderful place.

Where is the best area of the city to stay?

You'll be fine anywhere in city centre center - Dublin 01 or Dublin 02. The central artery is the river Liffey.

As for guys, you'll find quite a few escorts in Dublin listed on GayRomeo. Probably also on Gaydar, but I haven't looked at it in a while!

I glanced through GayRomeo, and what surprised me was how few of the escorts were Irish. If I went to Dublin, I'd rather get a taste of the locals.

Have a look at Gaydar (a general rule for the UK, Ireland, Australia)
