Hi folks,

Wondering if you'all can suggest things to do for a 3-day chillin' trip out to Palm Springs?

Any suggestions - from activities to food/drinks - are appreciated!

If "things to do" is a euphemism for sex, I can't help. But for other activities, you could take the tram straight up 8000 ft. to the top of Mt. San Jacinto, visit the Annenbergs' estate Sunnylands in Rancho Mirage (though tickets are very hard to get), hike in the Indian Canyons, stand on the San Andreas Fault in the Coachella Valley Preserve, go see the Salton Sea before it completely dries up, drive up to the beautiful Whitewater Preserve and hike up to the Pacific Crest Trail, join the crowds for the International Film Festival in Jan., go to the BNP Paribas tennis tournament (largest in the world after the four Grand Slams) in Indian Wells in Mar., check events at the McCallum Theater in Palm Desert, play some golf, take a guided tour in a Hummer or Jeep through Joshua Tree National Park, or if sex is still in the back of your mind, go to the White Party in Mar.

Definetly do the Tram Ride up San Jacquinto Mountain State park a few miles out of town on aain road - 10 minute tram ride up

to 6000ft mpuntain plateau - an enginering marvel in and of itself - with fascinating history and a beautiful park with amazing views for miles with restuarant, bar, exhibits, and trails to explore and in the winter excellent cross country skiing.

A Big Gay Must Cruise is Georgie's Alibi Bar/Rest on (Ace please correct me if Im wrong) Palm Drive (Could also be Indian Drive) but the main drag thru town - there are only two and they parallel each other.

Sunday Tea Dance at The Barracks in Cathedral (Cat) City about 15 minutes drive is not to be missed if you like Bears, boys, cubs, subs, sluts, leather, bdsm, or just hot sweaty men!

Dont forget the boutique Casinos and spas, and of course the Clothing Optional Gay Hotels ---- If it weren't 9 thousand degrees half the year id be living there in a heartbeat!

are there things to do in ps that aren't stereotypically gay? I mean i'm fine with guys who want to just bar or b&b it up but wondering if the city offers fine arts, good hotels, that kind of thing.

go to the BNP Paribas tennis tournament (largest in the world after the four Grand Slams) in Indian Wells in Mar.

I agree that Indian Wells is probably the most popular ATP World Masters 1000 event with most audiences and tennis players. But, it's only one of several ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events held each year.

So for the top players such as, Novak Djokovic, Victoria Azorenka, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, Andy Murray and Serena Williams, the opportunity to pick up 1000 points in the rankings by winning (for men and women each) is the draw at all the ATP World Masters 1000 events, not just Indian Wells.

No matter how much Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azorenka rave about Indian Wells, it's no different than other tournaments that award 1000 ranking points to the winners. I may be wrong, but I do not believe that the Williams sisters play Indian Wells.

The Williams sisters have refused to play at Indian Wells since 2001, when Venus pulled out of the semis just minutes before she was to play against Serena, and it was widely rumored that she did so at the order of their father, who wanted Serena to win. At the final (which she won), Serena was booed by some in the audience, and it was claimed that she heard some racist comments shouted by fans. She and Venus vowed they would never return to Indian Wells, and they never have. It hasn't affected the reputation or popularity of the tournament, however. Some fans admire them for sticking to their resolution, while others think their continued refusal, even after many invitations and apologies from tournament officials, is petty diva behavior.

Thanks all for the suggestions so far!

Definitely hoping to get some outdoor stuff in. Looks like I have to add the tram!

How about places to eat? I heard about the date shakes and will plan to try that out. Any must-try places?

Trio has become the restaurant of choice for the annual Palm Springs Weekend gathering for posters here. The new "in" places in town are LULU and Tinto. My personal favorites for upscale dining are Le Vallauris, Copley's or Spencer's. Thai Smile, Monsoon, Pho 533, Kiyosaku, Wasabi, and Wang's for ethnic food. Billy Reed for old-fashioned comfort food.
