backpacking over the long weekend....maybe I'll have some some re-hydrated turkey casserole while we're freezing and huddled around the fire....also, crackers and Cheeze-Whiz and some bourbon...my Black Friday will be quiet with some spectacular scenery thrown in.....tried a Black Friday a few years ago and it just wasn't worth it at all

Yes but azdr...you hike in some of the most spectacular country. I don't blame you, as long as you got the bourbon, 'Kentucky Bourbon' I hope, then you should be fine. Safe holiday to you....

What specialties are y'all bringing to the table...

I am bringing three bottles of Zin and three bottles of Chardonnay to my friends' place. I usually buy a turkey day after Thanksgiving and make it for myself and freeze the leftovers.

I purchased a young fresh turkey from Wholefoods today, which was jammed packed with people. Haven't seen so many hungry shoppers since they announced Hurricane Sandy was landing in nyc and everyone was stockpiling bread and water.

I will be attempting the Jacques Pepin steam-roasted turkey. I have never cooked a turkey before but i guess it can't be too different from chicken or duck which i'm pretty capable of handling. I'm pretty good at following directions so hopefully there won't be any charred or burnt offerings or sick guests. Hosting 6 friends and will be preparing the traditional sides.

To start off, how about Tante Marie's instructions for cooking a turkey?
