RH- Thanks for your reply.

You're welcome.

Chop off one head and it sprouts 2 more.

And that, too, is classic troll behavior. The troll is never wrong. The troll never acknowledges he's trolling. The troll's behavior is always someone else's problem. The troll can't simply shut up. Everyone else is a hypocrite. Everyone else must get over it. On and on and on...blah, blah, blah.

......and the screaming continues.

Like I keep saying.

All of us are "experts" on everything

I have no qualms admitting I'm not an expert on everything. I haven't a clue how to fix a car or how to enjoy watching football. But I do consider myself quite studied in online forum software and troll behavior.

I wasn't very secretive about it here but several years ago my business gathered information on the pros and cons of running an internet forum for a client who was interested in making the investment. Much of that research covered the subject of troll behavior. I've done the homework. I know the agenda. I'm familiar with the psychology. And I know how to avoid or fight back.

Trolls hate to be ignored. It's sort of like water on the wicked witch. May she melt in peace.

you simply cease posting for a period of time.

This concept is alien to the troll agenda. You simply can't apply common sense or basic reasoning to troll behavior.

Classic troll behavior is coming on a site and operating subversivley behind a curtain of secrecy like the Wizard of Oz, and making all sorts of outrageous claims that you are someone "Big and important" while dismissing opinions that are outside of your acceptance, because you are better than everyone else. Sound like you Mr R.? You have criticized fat people, effeminate people, gay people, pretty much everyone that wasnt YOU. I have several archive posts dating back to 2007 all focused on your deceptive practices here, and basically "outting" you as a major fraud. (YES Glutes taught me to use archives) Of course this was all before my time, but it is public record now. How quickly people forget. And werent you ever Banned a few times yourself Mr R. for some bullshit you spewed? And then didnt you start harassing all the people that spoke against you in pvt emails to them, and they turned around and posted the emails on the site so everyone would know how unbalanced you are ? And now you're back lecturing the site on "troll behavior", something you are obviously an expert on since YOU sir exhibit that behavior.. Sure you can pick up some fans along the way who are oblivious to your prior circus performance on this site, and there are always people that fall victim to the "snake oil" salesman... You can fool some of the people some of the time BUT...........

You need to get down off your soapbox Mr Oz......

Rockhard,

You have captured the essence of the problem perfectly. The question is: What to do about it? If one single person is being highly disruptive to the forum in general.....but is not actually breaching the rules...how does it stop? With one particular troll, the option to just ignore isn't working. Its kind of like a trade embargo. Unless everyone participates, it doesn't work.

Your earlier suggestion of having a more active moderator team probably will not work on daddy's as it is such a small site. The other sites you mentioned have a much higher number of participants. I assume they have subscription fees and can afford to employ a larger and more active moderator team.

Maybe we need to start a thread regarding Troll behaviour. We could try and reach a concensus on what is and is not acceptable behaviour. Perhaps that activity alone would put the trolls (I am not naming anyone) on notice that they are under scrutiny and need to watch out. Just a thought. This issue really needs to be nipped in the bud.

Lets see EZE, you have started threads condemming me, you have whine and complained on other threads started by your friends about me, and you have gone and complained directly to Daddy and begged for me to be Banned. Since I have done nothing wrong according to Daddys rules, and simply have pissed you off because I post too much (in your opinion) and have a voice bigger than yours, Yes sir, what REALLY are you gonna do about me ? "WE could try to reach a consensus on what is acceptable" ??? When the fuck did Daddy put yOU in charge of his site ? Since you are so concerned with the integrity of the site, perhaps YOU should start contributing to it it make it a better place instead of spending all your time here finding ways to trash me. Certainly says alot about you.

I really cant see how other members here are putting up with your "call to arms" bullshit. The only person causing a problem here is YOU.

Rockhard, You have captured the essence of the problem perfectly. The question is: What to do about it?

Many years ago, suggestions were welcomed and I offered them. In fairness to the owner, some house cleaning has been done. Time-Outs do exist. Many of the mean girls don't post here anymore. If they do, they changed their username, and they changed their tone and voice. One may pop up now and again but it seems he's been put on permanent Time-Out. What he really needed was A.A.

If one single person is being highly disruptive to the forum in general.....but is not actually breaching the rules...how does it stop?

Unfortunately, "highly disruptive" is a relative experience, and there are many gay men who find disruption, any form of it, entertaining. Half the crowd wants a Nanny state while the other half wants the freedom for mayhem. If you're a board owner who keeps a low profile, stronger personalities will stand out. If you're a passive owner, generous with rope, human nature suggests members will strangle themselves.

The only way to put a stop to argumentative, attack-style personalities, or determined trolls, is to ban them, with each new username, especially if the forum doesn't charge a user fee.

With one particular troll, the option to just ignore isn't working.

Well, it works for some of us. I simply ignore the username. I don't read or respond to any of those posts. It's not a natural way to participate in a sandbox but I do ignore many other assholes on other forums (how else can you survive discussing politics?). So I apply the same thinking here. I realize it's more difficult because this place is so much smaller. The really obnoxious tend to stand out and annoy here.

Unless everyone participates, it doesn't work.

Well, that's not exactly true. It may not work the way you want it to but it can work. The board does sustain the few that hang in there. Where else can escort lovers go to chat with one another? Please don't get me started on Oz.

Your earlier suggestion of having a more active moderator team probably will not work on daddy's as it is such a small site.

Given the owner's difficulties these past few years, it's amazing to me he keeps this thing going. Will it last forever? Does anything? Whatever the owner gets out of this enterprise I hope it's sincerely pleasurable.

Maybe we need to start a thread regarding Troll behaviour. We could try and reach a concensus on what is and is not acceptable behaviour.

Reaching consensus via public debate is sort of like putting gay marriage to a vote. It doesn't work and it's awfully unfair. Board etiquette and moderation MUST ALWAYS BEGIN AND END WITH THE OWNER.

This issue really needs to be nipped in the bud.

Unless the owner sees troll behavior as an issue, he may not value your frustration. He may not feel your urgency. It is no secret, troll behavior has the power to ruin the forum experience. Users will leave or stop posting, and there's plenty of evidence of that.

Even though Rick may have a new husband, I feel others agony and frustration.

:rolleyes:YES this poster aluded to constantly by EZE and Mr R is more dangerous than Al Quaida. And he is the biggest problem to this site. A problem bigger than Anthrax.

LMFAO, you guys are insane......this is fucking Hillarious. and when Daddy locks this thread, you will start another one about this SAME topic. YUP thats just what this site needs.

Its amazing to me how Ms EZE and Mr R have decided that their "lillte Achilles Heel" is a problem for, and of interest to the entire site, that they keep burdening them with this obsession of theirs. Trolls and Terrorists.

You 2 peas in the pod need to just get a friggin Room. Really bringing the Quality level up here guys.:rolleyes:

I have never used the ignore function. I guess I'm an optimist and would like to believe everyone is going to behave in a socially acceptable fashion. Naive I guess.

I agree with you that, over time, most trolls eventually get banned from the sites. Its just a matter of time. The question is how much time....and how much does the site in question decay in the meantime. The individual in question was finally put on a time out in November or December last year after having a vicious argument with another poster (an escort I believe). A flurry of profanity ensued and there were very bigoted comments made. Daddy put the individual in question "on notice" and advised the other poster that if he flagged up the issue officially, the offender in question would be punished. I assume that is what happened to cause the first time out...although I don't know for sure. I never followed that thread closely.

I assume that typical troll behaviour is that once they get permanently banned from a site, they either change identities (as you indicated) or move onto a new target site to wreak havoc there until they are banned from that locale. And the cycle continues. Really sick behaviour, but I guess that is what the anonimity of the internet gifts to us. Like everything, internet advances also have their plus and minus sides. How did these sorts of o/c individuals manifest their illness before the internet? Unrelenting prank phonecalls? Stalking? Interesting discussion to understand the psychology behind internet troll behaviour.

Unfortunately doesn't under scrutiny mean that we have to read all the TROLL B.S.? I'm guessing as has happened going back to the HOOBOY Days the TROLL will just go back under the bridge for good eventually! The issue is way beyond nipping in the bud!

I've skimmed through this thread a bit, and get an idea that some people are kind of at each others' throats, but if a troll war is going on, it seems that the best thing to do is ignore it and move on. Why waste your time on this stuff, or do some people just have too much time on their hands? I would rather ignore trolls than raise the specter of censorship.

Well said Unicorn! Life is too stressful to waste precious time & energy getting angry about anything on this board and/or constantly sparring with other anonymous posters. "Ignore it and move on" is terrific advice. Thank you, Unicorn.

Killing the punch line.

Rick has a new husband?

That's news to us!

Since humor has a way of floating way over some heads here, I'm happy to share the inspiration for mine:

if I weren't already married, I'd marry him
