Hi guys-I am going to San Diego for a week for work, and wondered if you guys have any recommendations for hotels or bath houses/escorts, the usual diversions we like? Either here or pms are great to, thanks guys. Will need a hotel close to the opera house-it may have been booked for me already, but if you know anywhere all suggestions welcome!

San Diego recommendations

htw,

Charlie's recommendation of The Bristol is an excellent one. Another option that you may want to consider is Palomar San Diego, which is also within an easy walk to the opera house. Have a great working trip with some time set aside for a little pleasure! :)

San Diego has two landmark hotels within two blocks of one another. The U.S. Grant is a historic hotel that recently underwent a gut renovation. It is located a few blocks from the Civic Theater on Broadway and Third Avenue. It is owned by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation and managed by Starwood Hotels. If the U.S. Grant is not on your employer's preferred hotel list, the Marriott Courtyard on Broadway and Fifth is located in a restored bank building. The building retains many of its historic features, such as teller cages and the vault. Here are links to both hotels:

Although I haven't stayed at either hotel, I would opt for the Grant because it is a historic hotel and the Kumeyaay are actually native to the San Diego area. In addition to owning the hotel, they contribute a great deal to our city and surrounding area.

I've been at the US Grant a number of times. I like that during the renovation they managed to keep the old feel of the place whilst installing modern conveniences. Whilst the hotel itself is very nice, the area it is located in is rife with homeless people. They're all over the place. I was quite surprised by this on my first trip to SD.

HTW -- I don't know if you saw today's reviews, but it looks like Andrew Dragon has moved back to San Diego. I've never met Andrew but he certainly has a stellar reputation.

Have a great time.

It's been almost two years since I was in AndrewD's company. Both times were stellar, as he was "really into" connecting with me and having both of us enjoy our time together.

I'd highly recommend him; read all of the reviews which have been written. I have one or two.

You will find that to be true all over downtown San Diego. The Civic Theater, where the opera performs, is homeless person central, as is the area around The Bristol, one of the other recommended hotels.

are some of them there only because of the Occupy thing or is it typical that they are there?....

Typical. And has been an issue for years...long before the occupy movement. As another poster mentioned, I think weather is a factor. Homeless people from cold weather climates migrate to warmer locales. Let's face it, if you are homeless and from Chicago, the goal may be to scrape together enough money to get a bus ticket to San Diego, or Tampa, or somewhere warm to at least not have to suffer through the winters. I think they have done some research in San Diego and determined that more than 50% of the city's homeless population are actually from states other than California.

It has been like that for years. You should have seen downtown San Diego before the redevelopment spurred by the condo boom and Petco Park. Scaaaaaaarrrrryyyyyy! Horton Park (the park in front of the Horton Plaza Shopping Mall) is a magnet for homeless people, as is the street in front of the current main library and post office. As another poster mentioned, San Diego has a great climate, so someone can live outdoors almost year-round. Also, the crime rate is relatively low.

As the official unofficial president and head cheerleader of the AndrewD lusting-fan club, there could be no other greater attraction in San Diego than he. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to connect with him while he was in Chicago, but regardless of the location and where we meet, he rocks my world. Hope you have fun!
