Thought it might be interesting for people to post "lessons learned". I'll start out and let's see where it goes.

1. Don't shop in the toy department during "normal" working hours. Wait until after the monsters (both young and old) have gone to bed (like around 2:00 a.m.).

2. Don't walk away from your shopping basket or let it out of your sight. Someone else will assume that they have every right to take that hard-to-find toy from your cart the minute you turn your back.

3. Don't volunteer to help your sister with her Christmas shopping just because she's home in bed sick. Take her chicken soup instead.

4. Being gay and childless has its advantages. :)

Lessons well-learned!

Add:

Don't accept dinner invitations where you're the token single guy, paired up with the token single girl. It won't work. :+

Don't loan money to friends or family. They most probably won't pay you back, and therefore they weren't your fiend or true family member in the first place.

Three Is The Magic Number

1. My ass is really not my best feature, as I had long assumed.

2. Eventually, the botox does wear off.

3. Always get a call back number when someone calls you from a "private number" before you accept the appointment.

Take the Chinese food out of the cardboard containers with the metal handles before reheating them in the microwave. :o

The fire extinguishers hanging on the wall at your office building really do work on small fires. :)

Co-workers will tease the hell out of you for even the most innocent mistakes. ;(

Good topic.

Today I learned how cold it can get in the house when the furnace decides to quit working. I also found out how expensive it is just for the repairman to show up in less than 2 days. Finally, I learned that they don't still make parts for a furnace that's over 30 years old.

Chilling yours,

Let me guess... You live in Manhattan?

Actually I live in the mid-west. But, I don't think they have a corner on the market when it comes to stealing from shopping carts.

x(

But, I did finally find replacements which did NOT leave my sweaty little hands until after they were bought and paid for.

Now what I learned today:

1. There are nice and very helpful people at some toy stores. (And some of them are also very cute!!)

2. Buying Christmas presents for kids can be very expensive!!

3. I like cute boys in their store uniforms.

I sadly learned today that coming out to a long time str8 friend who assumed I was str8 also, can make 3 years of close "friendship" and camaraderie suddenly disappear very quickly ;(

Flower, sorry you had to learn that awful lesson. But, although I didn't learn this lesson today, I know that being out of the closet is much more comfortable that being in the closet. ;-)

I also found out that some straight friends didn't really know how to initially react to my gayness. In time, the friendships usually became stronger than ever. But, I worked hard to keep in touch and made sure they knew I really hadn't changed. They just knew more about me than before.

Isn't this the same guy that went on to play Trapper John, M.D. a few years later. I believe his name is Parnell Roberts.

I often wondered about those guys on Bonanza. They seemed much too old to be living at home with Daddy. Not a single one of them ever married. Plus they employed that male cook who also seemed very attentive....}(

That's really sad. I'm sure you both feel somewhat betrayed...you each thought you knew each other but you really didn't. I'm sure you already know that you did the best & right thing; I wish every closeted person would & could come out to the world. You should try to open your friend's mind & educate him...I wouldn't be surprised if he were gay, too. ;)

Thanks Rick and One--the thought of him being gay had crossed my mind--he's quite a bit younger than I and told me in a couple of emails last year that he really enjoyed spending time with me and enjoyed the friendship a lot. I felt the same but didn't put it in an email until he did--so hard to say.

We have a mutual hobby/semi professional artistic endeaver that I teach in my spare time and he attends my workshops and we just hit it off a few years ago, and became quite close. He said he had no problem with me being gay and even kidded a little about it, but then emails and IMs and jokes and kidding and long distance computer games ABRUPTLY stopped unless I initiated whereas b4, he'd IM me a couple times a day for long periods of time, invite to play word games etc.

By me bringing it up, I feel I'd just put pressure on him to maintain a relationship he now doesn't care to maintain, and that's not what either of us want, so I've decided just to let it fade naturally :( I'm also sure that he must be wondering if my friendship was motivated by his good looks(not so btw, but didn't hurt:) but I had hoped that my actions would disspell that notion.
