Came home after no breakfast and no lunch and realized I had no defrosted anything for dinner. Too tired to go out and too hungry to wait for take out, I tried to make do with what was around the house. My "meal" consisted of a half a bag of a large bag of garlic and onion potato chips and about 3/4 of a 1/2 pound bag of M&M peanut washed down with a glass of water and a can of diet soda.

Has anyone ever had a worse meal than this?

OK, this is why I always keep a dozen (or so) eggs in the fridge. Tonight I came home after similar circumstances to Purplekow's above. Broke one whole egg, and another egg white into a bowl. Whipped them up a bit, put them into a pan with some butter (I *often* and easily substitute Pam products), added a bit of parmegianno (sp?) cheese, and had an omlette/frittata that was somewhat healthy and delicious.

I always make sure there are a few eggs and vegetables in my refrigerator.

Cocoa Puffs & a Coke

Agree. Junk food is bad enough but somehow the depth of depression is finding nothing in the house for dinner except breakfast cereal.

A pint of Haagen Daaz French Vanilla ice cream and a bottle of an Oregon pinot noir. And I live in New York, where I can order food for delivery 24 hours a day, but I was too depressed to talk to anyone.

The upside is that I have never again let my refrigerator and pantry get that empty. There's always enough to make an omelet or a quick bowl of pasta (though I try to avoid carbs these days) or something else 'normal' enough that it won't remind me of a dinner of ice cream and red wine.

I love food..

I can skip work but can't skip my lunch or dinner.. :) I usually have tea for breakfast with some fruit. I bring food to my meetings... :)

Actually, that sounds pretty good.

You know, Archer, it wasn't so bad going down, but for the next few hours I felt absolutely awful. Was that the food or the mood I was in or one affecting the other? Who knows? I've probably had dinners of just ice cream or just wine, and they didn't seem nearly as bad -- well, maybe the wine did the next morning.

Many times. Back in the student days, macaroni with butter & salt was considered "pasta" and was a luxury.

Oh god yes. One time I only had lettuce at home and actually had to have a salad for dinner. Eating healthily is my last resort.

Vending machines

During graduate school, there were a number of times when everything I ate in a given day came from a vending machine. It would go something like this. Breakfast; pop tarts. Lunch: peanut butter crackers Dinner: Granola bars and pretzels. Good times.

That brings back memories! I was staying in the fraternity house during summer school and was determined to celebrate passing grades with a weekend in Atlantic City. My only source of funds was my food allowance, so I beetled down to the kitchen to see what I could find that was free. The cupboard was bare, except for a carton of saltines and a couple of boxes of cherry Kool-Aid. Six weeks on that diet, and I was under the Boardwalk scarfing down the best Polish Sausage I ever ate. Rick, I think his name was.
