Pictures

 

Being gay men, we all like to look at pictures of hot guys, the hotter the better, the less clothes usually the better. Luckily for us, life provides ample opportunity for us to see them. Go anywhere and you will encounter a cute guy. There are billboards devoted to them, magazine pages teeming with sultry faces. Movies and tv shows seem to pick the best looking guys to cast.

 

And then there is the internet. Endless websites are devoted to nothing more than providing pictures and videos of super hot guys. Go to Cam4 and see them live, up close, naked and masturbating, or more!

 

Eventually you will come to Hooville, a message center stemming from an escort review site. Surely the guys there will like to see pix of hot guys, and we do. We are awash in them.

 

But our message center is a shared space. When posting pix of hot guys, one has to take into consideration the purpose of the Lounge, which is to be a place to exchange ideas. Lots of guys contribute to it, and they like the freedom they have to create threads and to have people respond to them. They don't want their threads being pushed aside. When we have multiple threads devoted to the butt of the day, the underwear of the day, and multiple "caption this" threads, others get crowded out of the Lounge. Their threads are soon on page two or three.

 

Not everybody comes here for the pictures. Many people want that exchange of ideas that the Lounge promises. Remember? Moderation in all things?

 

That's why I like this thread. Ryan created a picture thread and included several pictures in it. He didn't make a separate thread for each picture. This leaves those who love the pictures the chance to see them, but also leaves others the chance to view non-picture threads that interest them. Good ideas can stay on page one for a while.

 

Many people who come here look only at the first page of the Lounge to catch up on what's new. When they see the same thing in so many threads, they move on- unless, of course, pictures is why they came here.

 

But that brings us back to the point that the internet is full of picture sites. We don't need to convert the Lounge to yet another one.

 

I like EXPAT, I like his pictures, and I hope that he comes back. I do hope that he follows the example here, and uses one thread for several pictures, rather than a separate thread for each one. Then we can all find what we want in the Lounge.

You and I will have to disagree on this one. I personally prefer the way Expat posted his pictures and I really liked it when he started putting dates in the subject line.

 

For me, one "master" thread with a multitude of pictures isn't my preference. I lose interest in most threads when they go to a second page and I rarely read anything with 3+ pages. That's why I liked his format and style.

 

I really hope rules aren't being implemented that force us to adhere to someone else's format. I like the individuality and freedom on this site. But, if it changes...

 

And, while writing the original reply, I was surprised to see a new forum added for pictures. Now that's a change I really do like.

That, exactly, is the problem. People don't read THREADS on the second page, so anything forcing those threads to the second page causes their premature demise.

 

(There are times that's a benefit, but that's another discussion.)

 

Anyone posting six threads per day, day after day, forcing active discussions to the second page by the six-pack, can expect to be asked to curb his enthusiasm. Love the enthusiasm, but not when it stifles active discussion.

3-Pages=Death

 

This new vBulletin version software wastes a lot of space. Many say all gay men are artistic and creative. Some of us know that's a myth. If the board were mine or if I were a code whiz, I'd create my own software design. Maybe it's because I live in NYC: I don't like a lot of wasted space.

 

I fail to understand why any gay man would complain about viewing photos of naked men. Maybe the control freaks and the ego bullies (Boo-hoo, you pushed my thread down!) are having a rough week. One would have thought that party in the desert would have provided some long-lasting euphoria. The effects of orgasm sure don't last long.

 

Download times and Image Sizes are good reasons to complain about photos. Complaining about thread presentations and hierarchy have got to be the most control-freak, nelly whines I've ever heard.

 

But now we have The Gallery. Given the troubles of Annie Leibovitz these days, I guess we can expect a visit from her soon. Who knows, maybe Annie will show her cock.
