I got a pair of Crocs 3 years ago and I didn't have to buy another pair since. They last forever, are easy to clean and I can easily get rid of bad smell simply using antibiotic wipes. Now will you buy a pair of Crocs these days? Are they out of fashion? I haven't seen a lot of people walking around in Crocs these days so I am wondering. If you go to a store and see Crocs will you try them on or give them as a present to other people? I thought the company will go down but it seems to manage to stay in business so I was wondering what people's thoughts are.

Here are some new products if you are interested:

I definitely do not follow the current hip fashion trend, whatever it is this "season"....I did hear, though, that Crocs were already "out" a while ago....but I don't care....I wear mine all over the house instead of slippers...they're comfortable and durable....and I do take them on hiking and backpack trips for camp shoes and creek crossings....

I got mine at Target for $10 a couple years ago or more in the "family beach shoe" section, I think.....better than paying $30 for the name brand, you know.....I tore off the annoying strap that goes over the top.....

Coutryboywny---

Crocs also makes flip-flops which are great. A little pricey---nearly $20, but very comfortable, durable and great at the beach, post-beach and just about anything at a resort. Which I were headed toward the Caribbean, sigh, sigh. sigh. It's been a long winter.

Thanks, Samai.. I live in flip flops when on vacation. I only pack one pair of shoes to wear for dinner. All other times I'm flip-floppin'! I'll check into the Crocs. CB

Ugly, but are they ever comfortable!

I use the Trailbreaks: part shoe, sandal & sneaker...

Comfort Versus Style

I'm with "nycman" in that I've never thought crocs looked great on men, but agree with "Greatness" that they sure are comfortable. I would keep a pair around the house and just wear them when your comfort is more important to you than being stylish.

Currently I have three pairs of Crocs which I've had for a long time. None of them have openings on the top, and they're genuine ones-- purchased at Dillard's which seemed to have had unusual ones when I made my purchase. They're quite, quite comfortable and easy to care for. When I was in Buenos Aires in 2006 and 2007-- I wore them with my jeans and walked all over the place.

I have not given any thought as to making a purchase for new ones, but if there are some designer-looking ones which are similar to my current three pairs, I just might yield and give in whether they are in vogue (as such) or not!!!!!! -:) -:)

Greatness, your remark about shoes reminded me of a chapter in the book Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury. I have not read the entire book, but I think there was an excerpt from it in one of my literature books back in junior high or high school. Here is a plot summary of that chapter--

Chapter 4-5 (Summer in the Air) — Douglas discovers that his feet won't move as fast as that of the other boys because his sneakers are worn out. He becomes entranced by a pair of brand-new Cream-Sponge Para Litefoot Shoes in a shop window, and thinks on how the need for a "magic" pair of sneakers to run in the green grass is something only boys can understand when his father argues against buying another. The local shoe seller, Mr. Sanderson, is initially resistant to selling the sneakers to Douglas, especially since he doesn't even have enough money to pay for them upfront. Douglas, however, convinces him to try on a pair of his own sneakers, which triggers memories in Mr. Sanderson of when he was a kid and ran like the antelopes and gazelles. He agrees to let Douglas have the sneakers in return for work done by him in the shop to pay off the bill. The story ends with Douglas speeding away in the distance and Mr. Sanderson picking up his discarded old sneakers.

Excuse me....did I hear you correctly?

When comfort is more important that style?!?!?!?

Ummm....that would be NEVER!

Are you SURE you guys are gay?...and not just some "confused" straight dudes from middle America?

Gay men in Crocs...dear lord...I guess we finally have achieved equality...and it AIN'T pretty!

What a wonderful story! It is amazing how people can connect and understand each other through their experiences. Douglas is so cute and smart. I want a son like that. :)

well

I've never liked anything in the Sex in the City except Aiden, he is so cute. Anyways, Carrie criticizes the novel of her bf, Jack Berger, for his leading female character running all over NYC wearing a scrunchy.

Carrie says:

"No woman who works at W magazine and lives on Perry Street would be caught dead at a hip, downtown restaurant wearing a Scrunchy" This scene stuck in my mind.

In the later part of the episode, Berger and Carrie find a lady with a scrunchy on her hair in a hip downtown NYC restaurant. Berger tries to prove that he is right by pointing out the lady in front of them to Carrie.

Carries says: "She's not from NY". Berger unconvinced asks the lady "Excuse, Hi I'm sorry to bother you, we're just wondering what part of NY you live in?" The lady exclaims with a southern accent "me?" "I'm from Macon Georgia!!! But thanks you made my whole day~~" "Honey did you hear that? These people think that I live in NY"

I guess to NYC standard Crocs are not acceptable to gay men. I love nature, live right next to a state park and I rarely wear suits to work so to my standard Crocs are great for me. I can't wear designer shoes on a muddy unpaved roads, could I?

Look at the hairy legged guy with the black crocs...isn't exactly very appealing.

Are crocs THAT comfortable, that their ugliness is worth bearing?

Two Old Crocs...Nicholson & "W"

Crocs are butt-ugly and definitely shouldn't be worn with socks. And speaking of a pair of old crocs:

I can't see myself wearing them. Aside from the "style," they are made from plastic. That just doesn't sound appealing.

After reading all the posts about "crocs" I'm smiling at the cultural and geographical divide that this site seems to illustrate. Do you have to follow fashion trends to be gay? Do you have to live in Middle America or be an old crock to wear "crocs"? Do New Yorkers, meaning those from Manhattan, set THE trend that others must/should follow? When does practicality trump style? Why are we (including ME) so often judgmental of something WE don't like?

I don't expect answers to these questions, just spending a Sunday Morning not reading the NY Times, not catching up on the latest gossip about Jesse James, Tiger Woods, Lady Gaga, Tyler Lautner, not pouring over the Times magazine section to see what watch I should be wearing and what style and colour is de rigeur. and not spending money I don't have :))

Hope all of you have a great Sunday---it's almost spring for those of us who endure four seasons and summer is coming.

Crocks on duty. . .

It is interesting to see how many nurses and other hospital workers wear crocks when they are working. Of course, I live in the deep south, where anything is possible and acceptable!

I wear them at home, alone, but when company drops by I shed the crocks for a pair of shoes, but again, that depends on the company.

No, but it helps.

Do you have to live in Middle America or be an old crock to wear "crocs"?

Again....No, but it helps.

Do New Yorkers, meaning those from Manhattan, set THE trend that others must/should follow?

There are New Yorkers outside Manhattan!?!?....who knew?

and...yes we do set American trends...are you new to this country?

When does practicality trump style?

Ummm...we COVERED this...NEVER!

You're not even TRYING.....

Why are we (including ME) so often judgmental of something WE don't like?

It's judgemental to hate ugly shoes?...who knew?

I don't expect answers to these questions,....

NOW he tells me....

Well said Samai. You put into words my exact thoughts while reading this thread. Dear Greatness: Who gives a "croc" what anyone else thinks about the shoes you enjoy wearing. It's not about them--it's all about you and what you like. Why conform to what someone else thinks you should wear on your feet? I love the fact that you march to the beat of your own drum--and march on in your crocs if you want to, Baby!
